LG Versa heading to Verizon on March 1
If you're the type of individual who can never decide between the Cobb salad, the lobster bisque, and the sesame prawns and end up ordering all three, take note -- your phone has arrived. The long-rumored LG Versa lets you have your cake and eat it too by starting life as a full touchscreen slate, and when the time comes for some serious emailing, texting, or notetaking, you just snap on the included cover that includes a full QWERTY keyboard. The cover also features its own OLED display -- handy, since the Versa's 480 x 240 main display is concealed while the cover's closed -- while the phone itself rocks EV-DO Rev. A with tethering capability, a 2 megapixel cam with face detection and video recording, microSD expansion, and GPS. It'll be available starting March 1 for $249.99 on contract before a $50 mail-in rebate.

thick and hard.
do want
That's what she said!
ok.. not happening.. not that thing anyway...
(test)
test out posting without using the word "test".
thats what she said, lol
just everyone keep goin down the line,
but anyways, who da hell is really gonna buy this phone book? You kno a phone thats in a book style
cool
Put some freaking buttons on the other side of the keyboard so I can dial without having to flip the freaking thing open, damnit.
lg voyager?
If the case has it's own screen, it shouldn't be too hard to also add buttons ... BUT at some point, it will begin to resemble a Russian matryoshka doll (one inside the other).
Might it be better to add the keyboard, not as a hard-shell case, but as a skin with beefy materials and connections to support the keyboard?
If the entire front face was e-ink....oh the possibilities.
Reading your blogs and news (even books, but thats a stretch because of the size constraint. (If you had a folding e-ink screen...oh the possibilities.)) on your celly with the power consumption of a miniKindle.
Third party accessory? Add a beefier keyboard with some extra battery cells tucked beneath and you have a legitimate, value-added product.
Seriously? 480x240. They couldn't bust out any higher resolution love for a 'gaming' phone? I mean, they must having something awesome in mind to warrant a game pad. but that resolution sucks.
Completely agreed, which is why I won't be getting this phone.
March 1st release for all NorthAmerican LG retailers? or just US?
me want in the north...
This is awesome. What the hell are you doing?
nice...now someone make those keyboard/cover thingy for the iphone pls....
How hard is it to test with a useful comment. Capt Imbecile
I like the phone. But i just dont get the "Attachment" aspect. And what if i lose it or sumthin?
Voyager...Env 2..Looks like same ol same ol. Verizon Sure does love those LG phones.
its soley so i can separate my test comments vs. my 90% (of non-test) corragative HIghly ranked comments.
I keep a chart at home, at which I put a line thru every comment which is ignored/low Ranked. I follow with a straight shot then cutting my wrists and crying myself to sleep, only to wake up the next day and reach for the Amaretto.
How are you supposed to hold that thing comfortably? Does the hinge support the weight of the phone compared to what appears to be a very light and thin keyboard?
Wow how stupid, how are you supposed to type on that? Sit it on a desk or something?
And are those buttons gonna scratch the front of the phone up?
Its a clever idea, its just been implemented poorly IMO.
the buttons are unlikely to scratch the keyboard.. 1st of all.. the keyboard is removable (as it's contained in a case,, which has a "docking port" for the phone.. when you need to hammer away with a physical keyboard)... 2nd of all.. do the keys on your laptop scratch your screen when it's closed? hmmmm? :-/ didn't think so...
Actually the keyboard on my laptop is slightly imprinted on my screen, but whatever man.
I just dont see the point of the keyboard considering it would have to be held on a flat surface or really awkwardly just to be able to use it. Its nice for when youre sitting at your office or something but on the go its practically useless
The keyboard attachment has a multi position hinge on it. You won't need to lay it flat to use the keyboard. It will be much like the Voyager or the enV.
The Voyager's keys make little indents all over the inside screen.. especially if you have an invisible shield or something on there.
Doesn't Nissan have a car by the same name?
Yes but this gets better gas mileage.
this is brilliant.
I really like the idea. Whether the execution is up to scratch I have no idea, but a little keyboard in a leather case like that, cable or bluetooth connected to a touchscreen phone.
Nice. I hope other manufacturers steal the idea.
Not convincing. Concept yes, design no. LG's screen should be min 1/2 inch larger instead for the logo decorations. Oled display on cover, good thinking... might aswell add a number key pad
As an early ipohne adopter, the day I did not have my it in the same type of cover, the phone met the floor and cracked the screen. Since then, RiP. If iPhone would come with a similar keyboard & the software tweaks, it'll get my $$ again.
this is the ugliest phone i've seen in a long time. why does verizon get the crappy ugly phones? why not give an iphone contract to verizon apple!!!? come one, these fake iphone wannabes are nasty.....
BBYM will be selling it for $179.99 on a 2yr, no MIR.
I have handled the mock, and it's a solid-feeling phone. At the time, I didn't know the leather case comes off, but I don't think it would on the mock, anyways.
Can I use my early upgrade at Best Buy or do I need to go to Verizon?
Okay - this looks just like the LG Dare that i own - but with a lesser megapixel camera and a txting attachment. why not just make the attachment for the dare? phone companies drive me insane!
Nissan Versa!!
You need a different kind of test, methinks.
There's something very 1990's about this phone's design, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
I thought the Versa was supposed to be the "affordable" version of the Dare. $199.99 after the rebate... pshhh. You can get the Dare for cheaper than that now. Affordable my ass.
This seems like a step backwards. If you want a touchscreen with keyboard why not the Voyager? or the Env2? The Dare seems like a much better touchscreen device alone... who would buy this thing for full price over the others?
They shouldn't have the keyboard on the right side of the phone; that way right-handers can't really hold it in one hand to use it while the keyboard is on. And god knows most people won't want to be constantly attaching and detaching the damn thing
These should be purchased in bulk by the govt and handed out to all citizens as part of the recovery plan
I kind of like it. It reminds me of those old Sharp/Tandy pocket computers with the leather case that doubles as a keypad when you open it.
Did I miss something? I will admit, I struggle to understand how/why verizon gets all the love that they do on plan pricing alone, but who in their dumbphone loving, VZ fanboy right mind is going to spend $199.99 on a glorified Voyager when the Storm and Omnia are $99?
Spare me the "it's the network" comments please - I just don't understand how a dumbphone can justify being 2x the cost of a more capable device on the SAME network.
Simple. The Omnia and Storm will cost you $29.99 more a month with the REQUIRED data plan, which makes the Storm and the Omnia hella more expensive during the 2 years you have it.
Anyone know if the keyboard is Bluetooth or hard-wired somehow?
ALL CRAP PHONES, PLEASE REFER TO VERIZON!!
ALL CRAP PHONES, PLEASE REFER TO VERIZON WHERE THEY BELONG!
best introduction sentence ever!
How about resolution? Hmmm... 480 240 ...
