Dell's Inspiron Mini 10 dissected... in official service manuals
Dell's all too elusive Inspiron Mini 10 is finally getting a bit more full frontal with us thanks to a fresh set of service manuals hosted up at the outfit's website. In the read link you'll find a Technology Guide, Service Manual, Setup Guide and Tech Sheet, all of which give you a closer, more intimate look at the one computer Dell decided to sell via QVC first. Curiously enough, this also means that Dell is the first to dissect its own machine, though these images aren't nearly as titillating as those sure to be hosted up soon by a curious early adopter.

Hmmm....
Is that GeForce 9800 GTM ?
Highly doubtful...
good morning engadget :)
anyone else catch the snow storm up by philly?
oh and... i dissected a memory card before... does that count for relevance?
Here in the Berlin, NJ area it's a snow day. :)
Figures I had off anyway, but at least we're provisioned and have little if anything to do.
I don't like the Minis 10 or 12.
Of course i own a Mini 9, but part of my fun has been modding, and the others aren't nearly as friendly to it.
school's closed up here too! unfortunately im a year out of high school so i still went to work... gotta feed the kids ya digg? (just playing... i gots no children XD)
noone's in the office and i did everything i was supposed to so... im stuck in my cube with nothing to do but hang out at engadget for the time being :)
If you check out the 'before you begin' page the instructions for shutting down the system are for Windows Vista. I thought the whole idea here was that this system wasn't allowed to run Vista!?!? At least not yet.
That is a "2-in-1 Memory and Processor Board" meaning Dell locked you to 1GB of memory. To upgrade further you would need to buy a new Processor/Mem card if anyone even produces one. Bad move Dell! I was ready to buy one until I saw this!
Same here. I was ready to pick one up until I saw that earlier.
isnt that a SODIMM slot in the middle of the board? technically you could up it to 3Gb if it is, that being said it could be a ribbon cable connector
I would think it more likely to be the PCI-E connector for the eventual WWAN offering. Most likely a Sierra Wireless/ AT&T offering that will require a contract and a $350 rebate after 6 months service.
that would be on the "USB and SIM Card Board"
@Jack, Nice catch. There is a Mini-cards support link as well. It says
Your computer supports two Mini-Card slots:
One full Mini-Card slot - for Mobile Broadband or WWAN
One half Mini-Card slot - for WLAN
So the Sim is divorced from the WWAN card. Maybe it only has a Sim if it is on AT&T or Other international carriers that use Sims.
ah that sucks, 1gb is pretty restrictive
Soldered ram? what a shame!
I'm glad to have the mini 9 with a 2gb ram upgrade from crucial.com
Solder ram = bad
but, possible upgradeable cpu = good.
hmmmmm........
Engadget seem a bit late for this story.
This has been on the net since at least Friday
