Screen Grabs: Time Capsule holds all sorts of Life's secrets
Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

While Reese got grilled and Crews got one step closer to figuring out who stabbed him in the back decades ago, Robert Stark happened upon what Captain Tidwell thought was a small computer. Clearly, someone failed to tip him off on the fact that a Time Capsule isn't in any way a Mac mini. Ah well, at least some gal finally convinced him to get a haircut.

Actually he said "wireless backup, this thing has everything that was on his computer".
Marc-O @ Mar 10th 2009 8:07AM
Indeed ! I was happily surprised they got it right for once... Tsk tsk, Darren !
SmittyMcSmith @ Mar 10th 2009 10:25AM
I was gonna say.... he knew what it was before i did being that i saw it here a few days after the airing of this episode.
Genius Blog @ Mar 10th 2009 2:11PM
Yea seriously Darren Murph, you screwed up big time. I mean I get the need for news, but there's no excuse for attacking one of NBC's best shows - when your absolutely wrong. Next time, get your facts straight. They adressed this as a wireless backup, which the Time Capsule is EXACTLY. They pull data off it, like a hard drive. Not once did they say it was a computer.
Now if he was holding an apple Airport Extreme Base Station... that's a whole different story.
loocas @ Mar 10th 2009 3:37PM
Who cares?! Engadget is all about objectivism and facts, didn't you know?
Christo @ Mar 10th 2009 11:06PM
I know I'm late to the party, but I had to put in my 2¢...
Epic Fail. "Wireless Computer Backup" does not mean "a small computer."
Oh, and Reese is anything but "some gal" lol
beans @ Mar 10th 2009 6:28AM
I think I saw a mac mini on 24 last night as well...when the bad guy was plugging into the hospital computer...check that sh!t out.
mike @ Mar 10th 2009 6:32AM
Yeah, he was also sporting an oqo device, like that dude had in the last ep of the unit
Carl @ Mar 10th 2009 8:39AM
Yea that was a mini in the hospital, think it only had 4 USB so not the new one. Also that was the sony MID, or whatever it is, right? I think jack stole an omnia too but couldnt really tell. Ah the product placement. Although you wouldn't have known it was a mini unless you had seen one before.
Paul @ Mar 10th 2009 9:35AM
It wasn't a Omnia, it was a Samsung Instinct. I think most if not all of the characters use Sprint phones on that show. The FBI director guy uses a crappy Samsung Upstage (I'm sure a guy in his position would use a garbage music phone), Jack used a ic902 earlier in the season, some of the other people use Katana 2's, and a few other I can't remember right now.
Tony @ Mar 10th 2009 11:19AM
Yeah I saw it too! It was set up vertically with its ports facing the camera.
A.C.E.R. @ Mar 10th 2009 6:30AM
I don't care about shitty gadgets on shitty TV shows on shitty networks. But thanks anyways.
Colin Jones @ Mar 10th 2009 6:34AM
Someone's in a shitty mood.
Hirudin @ Mar 10th 2009 9:36AM
LOL
Cool avatar. Liquid Sky blotter!
Brian @ Mar 10th 2009 6:33AM
They actually used this correctly on the show. It shouldn't be on here.
r3loaded @ Mar 10th 2009 6:40AM
"Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV."
Seems like it fits the description to me.
Daza @ Mar 10th 2009 7:31AM
They're still wrong here - "Clearly, someone failed to tip him off on the fact that a Time Capsule isn't in any way a Mac mini."
Ray-- @ Mar 10th 2009 9:54AM
right or wrong it was a chance for another (pointless) apple related story so they had to make up something.
BrianB @ Mar 10th 2009 6:43AM
Talking about screen grabs, how about Joshua Topolsky at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? High five, Josh, uh, I mean, high five, Josh. Dammit, Josh, high five!
SirCrumpet @ Mar 10th 2009 6:56AM
Let's just be thankful it wasn't a repeat of that horrific Exel-Spreadsheet-Hidden-In-Level-Ten-Of-Prince-Of-Persia incident (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/nbcs-life-investigates-prince-of-persia/)
Xenoterranos @ Mar 10th 2009 10:05AM
That clip made me feel shame. Will "Reached Level Ten" be the new "Jumped The Shark"?!
Major4Play @ Mar 10th 2009 7:51AM
Oh jesus how can anyone watch 24 and pay attention to anything except fear of the TERRORIST THREAT.
24 blows ass.
Marc-O @ Mar 10th 2009 8:08AM
Yes, 24 blows, but what does it have to do with the topic at hand ? *puzzled*
Wwhat @ Mar 10th 2009 12:30PM
Was obviously a comment on an earlier comment where people veered towards '24''s use of a mac-mini being more 'exciting'
Dan @ Mar 10th 2009 7:54AM
This article should definitely be entitled "Time Capsule holds all sorts of iLife's secrets" instead.
superhobo @ Mar 10th 2009 8:12AM
Breaking news, for sure.
sam @ Mar 10th 2009 8:28AM
this is old news as life aired ages ago.
Now here's some NEW news for you, the Mac mini was featured in last night's episode of 24:

Ha, no network cable plugged in. I know it could be on WiFi, but you don't often see WiFi used with stationary PC's at a major office area.
Yay for Mini love though.
James @ Mar 10th 2009 10:19AM
That's Donal Logue!
He helped me propose to my fiance!
