Movable Power, like Paris, is a conceptual feast
We're suckers for power-strip designs. As gadget nerds, we're constantly faced with overloaded circuits and blocked ports. For the latter, there's this design by Jeff Carter that neatly overcomes the limitations presented by the ubiquitous (and ridiculous) side-by-side strip design. Regarding our excessive power issues, that's easy: more interns to shovel the coal and kittens.

What is with the cat?
Engadget has slaves, and shovel the coal and kittens to make power......
should read the story.
I see a cat there, sorry didn't realize that was a kitten.
Cat... Kitten, same in my books...
All I know is Cat/Kitten=electricity
Kittens burn slower and at a lower tempature, you'd need more to get the right amount of power.
Cats burn faster and hotter, so you get more power per pound.
Slaves = Interns... Thats why I will never intern at Engadget...
That cat looks like Chester Arthur
In other news...yeah, that power strip. My question is, does it protect against surges?
Props for getting in an obscure 19th century reference! I tip my mutton chops to you!
That'd be the diff. between a surge protector and a power strip... That doesn't appear to have protection capabilities.
Funny, I thought the cat looked more like Rutherford B. Hayes...
shocked plug is shocked.

Also, british 3 pin plugs ftw.
Errrm, thats not a british plug....
I know.
They're better than this one.
I HAZ UR PLUGGGG!!!
Its all well and good they move, but are the heads spinnable? other wise if that was in the UK all the leads from the sockets would block to socket behind them...
Obviously they are.
The ones on the right wouldn't be possible otherwise.
And main picture (so obviously)
Seems cool, but a production version better not have recessed sockets like that or it'll be worthless for wall warts
Looking at that picture in the top right, It can also double up as a sex toy.
leaving you with a shocking sensation
I want to know where you bought your imagination, because you clearly have a more advanced version than me.
Ass-to-ass.

@kspahr: Engadget burns kittens for pleasure. Or power, not sure.
And tbh I thought Paris looked slightly more tasty than this kitten extender or whatever it is. The main problem with power strips is not enough space around each hole. It looks like the holes can swivel, which helps a bit, but I'll wait for (or invent, if nescessary) an extendable power strip that allows for extra space around the warts, but shrinks back to minimal size when no extra spacing is needed. I can even make it blue if you want. With kittens.
I know what else we can burn for power,
Chavs.
Its a UK thing.
The track-suits of the Non-Educated Delinquents may indeed burn well, but their bodies are mainly skin and skeleton. From my experience of Forensics, bones don't burn well. You'd be better just burning their track-suits and socks. Perhaps if you release them back into the wild they will grow new track-suits as a source of renewable energy.

*plays the Tetris song*
The cat shares the same face as the plugs!
Apart from that, neat work.

why's everyone making this "D=" thing? does this have anything to do with chuck norris again?
...because the sockets look like D=
Hah, and no one else noticed the typo in the text under "Movable Power" - "move the power stirp" :P
And just now I see another... "This power strips allows..." *chuckle*
The graphic in the top right hand corner look like smilies.
what is wilford brimley doing near a power-strip? he should only be on diabeetus commericals.
What about plugs that need to be flush (like a small power adapter)?
Otherwise, agreed; I'm always perked to new powerstrips and usb hubs. I don't get them, but I'm always curious about new designs.
Anyone in here a Simpsons fan? I'm talking Phil Hartman Simpsons, not the trash they've been scattering over the airwaves these past 10 yrs.
Anyway, one of my favorite quotes comes from an episode where Marge has to leave the house quite abruptly, and so she's leaving a list of instructions (verbally) for Homer as she's running out the door. She mentions feeding the cats, doing something with the furnace (I don't remember what it was--probably maintenance), and a few other things. After listening to this seemingly endless list of things to do, Homer gives Marge the old "reassuring nod" and exclaims, "Got it, cat in the furnace."
Having not heard the Engadget kitten-fuel joke/story before, this quote was the first thing that came to mind. I don't know where the joke stems from but that would be awesome if it started with my beloved Simpsons quote! Either way, funny joke all around.
From what I understand about Chavs [limited, I admit, by the Atlantic Ocean between me and the nearest Chav [I understand I should be grateful for this]], couldn't you use them for power much more efficiently by having them and dangle a cider, a dole check and a Burberry gift certificate in front of them?
The cat needs an eyebrow waxing.
I get it! The cat represents "Movable Power." It's all a veiled reference to an episode of Perfect Strangers.
lol... look at the cat's face...
This is just another piece of evidence that our society is becoming lazy.
Seriously, how many Engadget readers are gonna get a Hemingway reference?
ding ding ding... finally!

Non-polarized plugs FTL!
