nio Bluetooth security tag keeps tabs on your belongings
It's okay to be honest with yourself -- if you've been struggling to keep your personal goods on your person, and hiring a personal bodyguard is simply out of the question, you might need nio. What's nio, you ask? Why, it's a Bluetooth security tag that links up your mobile phone and practically anything else you'd like: a briefcase, a set of keys, a pack of Doritos, etc. Essentially, it gives you the ability to be buzzed if your tracked belongings hover too far out of range with your cellie, though the inability to remotely taser the thief is a definite shortcoming. Seems that you'll have to be real serious about this to even inquire about a price, but a totally explanatory video is waiting just past the break.

Gee! I can put one of these on my gf so she doesn't get lost when we go shopping!
@Cargojack, I hear you man :) Could definitely use one for my wife, one second she's behind you, next she's in the distant part of the store... It's like they have a teleportation fields installed in the mall that only works for women...
it's comfortable for me...
becuz i always forget things...(I hate that)
or I have a kind of disease(?)...
CRS disease? Can't Remember Shite?
I just had an idea! This kind of device would be great to use on your luggage in the airport's baggage claim area.
Ooop! But what if you lose your cell phone?
Then there is no way to alert you if your other devices are lost!
It appears from the vid that both devices give an alert when they are too far apart.
Cool, now the thief gets even more out of stealing a handbag.
gadgets are cheap?
For people that use aluminum briefcases.
Ok so uh I hate this when they do this thing, but Could I get a price and point of sale puhleeze?
might help if they r looking to generate revenue.
Would it be able to work as a locator when you lose them? Say, buzz louder when you're getting closer?
why does no one use capital letters in product names anymore?
is that like epsilon minus?
Because they are trying to save money as lower case (as everyone knows) r cheaper
This is really quite old news in a new package.
This is what RFID is all about.
And where are these rfid devices? And I'm not trying to be a jerk - I'm honestly asking. I've tried for months to find something RFID base that does this - I'd love to be able to attach tags to my coat, my bag, my wallet, my watch, etc. But the only things I've been able to find are bluetooth bits, like this.
I got desperate enough that I started looking at how difficult it'd be to put something like that together, if by some miracle I'd suddenly find myself with freetime. As a stop gap I purchased a $25 bluetooth bracelet with a proximity alarm to do the same task as the nio for my phone, just more descretely.
i hear your pain...i agree big time.
Is this guy talking to a four year old. My one year old soon is certainly listening. I'm bored already.
If they could only offer on a pen drive. Or does someone else?
Make the bt bit usb chargeable
No more walking away from someone's kit without your stick.
the idea is a nice one but the implementation isn't. In the video the person never loses his nio. He always loses the other gadget. If he can make certain he never loses the nio surely he can make certain he doesn't lose the other gadget either. Perhaps it would be better if nio was wearable (either in wrist-form or necklace)
I imaging that 24/7 BT has gotta eat into your phone's battery. I think I'll just be careful - can always remote wipe the blackberry and get a new one.
This is great for medical devices that need enhanced security.
I’ve just bought one. It costs £39.95 (about 58 dollars). Just click on ‘purchase nio’.

or tie this to one end to your phone, and the other end to your belt.

Nio can do much more than the bracelet idea. It’s got an in-built motion sensor and you can set schedules on your phone when you want nio to automatically activate.
Most annoying video ever. The overall impression is "if you're stooopid, easily distracted by funky jazz music or suffer from chronic CRS disease, we have just the right thing for you". Not that it would not be useful.
This would be great if it had a silent alarm that would track the movement of your property. Instead of confronting the jerk who took your stuff, have the cops do it for you!
Can you attach a secondary nio to your first nio alerting you if you are about to lose it?
Its 60 bucks US 40 euros i think
Well, I pre-ordered one. I like the idea, and there is never anything wrong with new toys if you can get work to pay for it!
The idea is rather neat, we've been looking at RFID tags for biomedical equipment here. The possibility of being able to walk into a room with an existing work issued phone and see what devices are in the area seems neat.
I could save an hour a day with this on my key chain.
If that is true you might want to visit a physician and have yourself checked out, you might have some mineral deficit or something, write it down NOW so you don't forget.
Ironically I read that in britain thieves use bluetooth to detect which cars have gadgets in them to steal, so the thieves were first with the idea, they should have patented eh.
I like the video, they did a nice effort on it, although for some of us engadget types it might be a bit short on technical details, still, as such videos go it's pretty good.
I don't nio.
They need to make it clear that it's not just your mobile that beeps. Great idea though
I have a feeling there's going to be news about the nio, some forgetful person, and a bomb scare soon enough.
