amazing
There's a giant squid in my pants!
Looks like a squid with an erection. That's totally Japanese. o-chinchin ga tatte'ru.
I'm so confused.
.. and what's up with the Land of Hope and Glory reference ??
Veidt did it
HAHAHAHAHA, Veidt did it eh? You've spilled the secret, now we'll never have world peace.
Ummm.. what?
totally... weird.
OMG......IT HAS BEGUN!
Hakodate is a kick ass little town.
Damn straight.
Lucky Pierrot FTW!
That sucked. Who do I sue to get back that wasted 49 seconds of my life!
That sounds cool!
It dun werk
Awesome
Why can't all cities do this?
this is cool. i'd go to japan because i like to run from shit. mostly immaterial things like interpersonal conflict and my own inner demons.
+1, F-ing Awesome, lol.
Squid... mmmmmmm...
This is one of those videos where just typing "wut" is more than enough...
Seriously... What the hell?
i don't get it...
Ed
yes?
So let me get this straight... (Pardon the pun) A video with 1 second of a robotic squid and 30 seconds of naked guys running around holding their frozen Japanese wieners is supposed to make me want to visit?
I don't think so.
This one os so much more badass:

That is hella badass, they should totally use this one as the example.
All of the three simply mean to go to Hakodate quick before the relics and histories disappear, or if aliens attack.
That was totally lame!
It's just culture-specific humor that we Americans don't really get. It's not all that different than our commercials. I'm sure people in non-english speaking countries probably think American commercials are completely retarded. Actually, I already think most of our commercials are completely retarded.
Yeah, I was gonna say, that's because most of our commercials ARE completely retarded.
I'm there
I think the idea is awesome, it was just executed in a really mediocre way in that video. If the ads had been handled by a bigger, better FX company, I bet they would've kicked ass.
I was thinking the same, but I think it's like an homage to the classic Japanese giant robot live action flicks. The ones that Power Rangers was modeled decades after they were a big hit in Japan. Honestly, they were cheesy with bad special FX and terrible editing. I hope that this is what they were after, lol. Kinda reminds of an episode of Dexter's Lab where he goes to Japan and every calssmate has a giant robot they control with their wristwatch.
Only in Japan!
I sniggered at the end.. but that's about it.
this video is no longer available.
This campaign is really ingenious. Seeing Hakodate's landmarks fight an alien invasion is incredibly funny. Too bad Engadget has chosen the least impressive (although still good) video and people are too lazy to go to the official page or search in youtube.

Yey, as crazy as it sounds, and as crazy as this is. I would go to Japan becasue of this, and on top of it I work in advertising and have worked on tourism campaigns before.
Actually, I'm booking a ticket to the remotest parts of Japan with outdoor billboards, as I speak.
Yes I know, crazy but true, he he.
BUmmer
First it was Godzilla and now giant squids?
Awesome
Holy crap. The Japanese are nucki' futz.
It's a whole lot funnier when you watch them in order. But I do not get the giant floating teddy bear/voodoo doll.
Love the featured performance of American military hardware.
Tagline: "Come to Hakodate! We are sometimes attacked by giant alien squids, but we have giant robots, statues, and canons to protect you. You'll be fine. Probably."
I'm glad that the Japanese, as a culture, can poke fun at what the rest of the world thinks of them. Because, honestly, when you think of Japan, you think of seafood and robots, right?
just checking
testing
I just wanna know why they're playing the British anthem at the end...
does anyone know how to deactivate a comment?
it looks like Tom Servo attacking
DUDE! Awesome.
What's with Pomp and Circumstance playing at the end?
