UMID M1 put through numerous paces on video
We know it's torture seeing all these UMID M1 videos with little to no hope of a US release, but just think -- it's the perfect excuse for you to use that dusty passport before it expires next year. The all-too-intriguing handheld, which is currently strutting its stuff in South Korea, has been heavily videoed by YouTube user loa2000kr. We're talking Warcraft / Quake III demos, 1080p movie playback tests and even a look at how it handles 2D side-scrollers. Complete with Counter-Strike clone...
No, I'm pretty sure it's real.
Quake III Arena was released at around the same time as Counter Strike. How is it a clone again?
Sudden Attack, not Quake III Arena.
What'd ya know, it's the article's picture.
Quake 3 is a good test. I was running Q3 on a Pentium 3 450mHZ with 256MB Ram and a Geforce2.
But I doubt I'd want to play old games on a screen that small.
if it had openPandora's button layout and anolog sticks you could
openPandora could play Quake too, but it has to be special port of it, not just the x86, windows one
@JohnTitor
Yeah, Linux is "special"
Hah!
Third!
Yeah, but can it run Cry... ah, nevermind.
Yes yes it will play Crystal Quest just fine!
Import Price?
It will be nice to see in a few years some Counter Strike: Source on a small mobile device. Hours and hours of fun.
(Little ugly though, and a large hinge, but this was discussed in the other thread).
If this can run Quake 3, then I know it can run Half Life and therefore Counter Strike with the High Definition pack. Why would anyone want to play CS on such a small screen? I had trouble aiming in that game on a 17 inch monitor.
CS uses pixel aiming though so the smaller the res, which i'd guess this has a small res? the better the aiming!
I wouldn't try playing CS on this thing. Getting anything below 30FPS puts you at a huge disadvantage. Even on my 1000H I can barely play CS. It's just too choppy.
Those were some seriously low frame rates on really old titles...
6-12 fps? Low....
I notice graphics problems on the first video during the racing game. It seems it couldn't handle it very well.
Thanks captain obvious :DDD
wow, the Pandora with it's smartphone chipset runs Quake3 faster than a full laptop.
i would get one to replace my ds and psp
Nothing will replace your DS.
The PSP2 can replace your PSP.
My original plan was to dual boot Ubuntu MID and Android on it, I didnt even think of games on XP. Depending on disk space requirements I may want to put Steam on it and play some Audiosurf.
Maybe MAC OS too. lol
Article mentions World of Warcraft test, thats not the case. He is playing some WC3 and another RPG, but not WoW :(
the article says warcraft, not world of warcraft, you know those wildly popular games that came out and created the backstory for your beloved mmo.
So, is this thing out yet?
I've got a friend who's heading to south korea in a week, and it would be nice to have him pick one up for me.
But... I really don't get this whole 3g/umts/hsdpa thing. What does this thing have? (in south korea)
I figured out that it won't work in the us, but what about sweden?
My opinion: Forget this for gaming. It has poor 3D graphics power.
This one is all about microblogging, emails, fast web browsing as CPU power is relatively good.
Chippy
Steve: More along the line off no hardware accelerated driver. In that case, you can have a full blown Nvidia GTX 260 or whatever in there, and it will still run in crippled state.
Its not just crippling the 3d aspect, its also preventing a lot off UMPC/MID's from displaying 720p movies without stuttering. The only exception to that rule being the few media players that have partially support ( directly accessing the GPU ), but even those are hit & miss between the different media ( xvid, divx, h.264, ... ).
That cannot possibly be 1080p video on a .8~1.3GHz atom?
even the N280 setups with discrete graphics have issues with 1080p
I agree. Plus, on the video, it says "850x478" in the corner when it loads.
It's suddenattack
