Well, since your comment wasn't productive, I'll use this space to post a productive one:

4:50 (everything before that is sysreqs; not kidding)
Now that I've finished watching this... is there any way to do this without ripping my Wii games? Since I actually legitimately own Brawl, it'd be easier if I could just put the DVD in the drive.
He could have skipped the first 5 min. and said if you don't know what type of cpu / gc you have then don't bother.
Why stop at 720p?
Dolphin runs Brawl and other Wii games perfectly smooth at 1080p on my computer which is over a year old.
Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz
8800GTS 512mb
why stop at 1080p. My computer that is 12 years old runs brawl in 2k perfectly.
That is somewhat true, though 1080p is really the highest resolution you will find on tvs in homes and not many people will want to play wii on a computer monitor. A new computer with an i7 and GTX 280 would run this just fine at 2650x1600 I'm sure of it.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but a NEW computer wont include a GTX 280, as it has been discontinued now for months
The GTX 280 can still be bought almost anywhere online and is identical to the GTX 285 except for the 10nm smaller core which reduces power slightly. They both even have the same clocks. So what I meant by new was in terms of performance, not specific hardware. 280/285 is still the fastest single card.
@Bryant
No, sadly. There are only a few DVD drives that can properly read the Wii Discs.
360 doesnt natively up res like this, it does simple upscaling like on a dvd. Xbox.com even says so
No Super Mario Sunshine? Not worth it
How about DOA Beach Volleyball 3 (when it comes out, that is)?
@RoboDan: Galaxy, perhaps?
Looks... so beautiful... if only brawl chose a better system...
I don't think Mr. Personified Brawl had a choice. Nintendo is his father, y'know.
Why would Nintendo choose a different system for thier own game?
The application of this technology alone suggests that Nintendo could easily introduce an HD Wii which makes already existing games look better and open up new gaming options.
That's ONLY if a company like Nintendo did Hardware refreshes like every year or 3....
Oh WAIT... THEY DO
I could even see this being on the plate for this xmas, or early next. How else to make full use of HD saturation and getting on last, and with Very competitive component prices.
Smooth move Big N!
Let all the other companies invest a MEGATON of money into new tech... Gimmick your existing tech with a lot of flair, then after your competitors are financially strapped for burning through too much money (who knew people wouldn't get a second part time job to buy a ps3!) swoop in with a refresh and much more reasonable supply costs. Now about this "virtual Library" i heard whispered about at N headquarters..
Full wii games you say?
like netflix?
More epoxy resin?
I dont have a Wii, and have no idea how the original Brawl looks, these videos are useless.
well.... brawl looks like that... but lower resolution.
Was that so hard?
@Tim
Useful comment! Would read again! A++++++++++++
I think Brawl and MP3 are some of the better looking games on the system personally, so this isn't that surprising. While the graphics on the shovelware/PS2 ports do look crappy, Brawl and the like show that the Wii is not that poor graphics wise. Still, these videos are pretty impressive though.
kumquat wins the internet.
April Fools?
actually no. this video was released about a week or two ago.
Impressive!
i call shinanigans. I don't believe it is possible...not yet anyway.
Why?
Dolphins based around a GC emulator, and it still only play s a few games anyway.
PS2 emulators have been around for years, and been able to output HD too. So having a Wii emulator upscale the resolution isn't too hard, it's not like its the most technologically advanced console out their.
why? Dolphin is a great Wii and Gamecube emulator. going to borrow my gf's copy of Brawl to try it out.
Normal DVD drives can't read Wii discs, you must download the game from torrents.
@Evi1d33d: That's not the only way, and torrents are illegal for this. If you have certain LG drivers, you can rip your own Wii games and play from there. You can also use homebrew on the Wii to rip and transfer the games to your PC.
I have a backup of my SSBB disc on my computer, and have been playing this for a few days! I love it!
What should have been!
i wish he posted the videos in 720p instead of just putting them in youtube 480p "HD".
Go to the actual video page...it is 1280x720.
That's what I'm talking about. The max resolution on youtube videos are 480. Measure them if you don't believe me.
Click play on the embedded video, then click the video again so it opens the video at youtube.com. Then on the youtube page click HD. It will then be 1280x720. The embedded player isn't HD, but the youtube.com one is.
I'm pretty sure you can download the actual 720p video using the Firefox extension "DownloadHelper"
You are wrong. Youtube HD = 720... It's the whole point.
Hmm, I think he's right. I go to the actual YouTube page, click the HD button, and while the page does reload with a larger format, that larger format it 480p.
I know what everyone is saying. Go to the youtube.com page and click the HD button, i get it.
True, you can upload 720p videos to youtube, but it all gets converted to 480p flash video. If you don't believe me watch a 720p trailer on some trailer website and compare the size, OR download the youtube video and check the info/properties or take a screenshot and paste it into a paint program and crop out the video, and you'll see that it s 860x480 video with a sub-DVD quality bit-rate. It just looks good because its all squished into a 4in box.
People need to learn that 1080, 720, etc aren't just some random numbers, its the measurements of pixels vertically on your screen.
vimeo HD ftw!
You're aware that if you append the &fmt=18 tag to actual HD videos on Youtube they come out in 480p instead of the 720p you get if you don't append and hit the HD button, right?
Basically, on a video that has a real HD frame size, when you hit HD it will resize the player to 1280x720, and it will be on centered on the screen on top of the comments and the about box.
No, Youtube HD is 720p not 480p. I know because when I try to upload my 720x480 @ 60fps videos. I don't get the HD options. I only get HQ. It sucks because HQ is 30fps, not 60fps and the 60fps to 30fps makes the video annoyingly jerky.
When I upload my 1280x720p videos, it's DEFINITELY 720p and also 60fps. There is no doubt.
If I want to get my 720x480 videos at 60fps, I'd have to scale it to 1280x720 before uploading
We could continually tell you the same but you probably still won't believe us so here's the HD spec straight from Google:

Click on the FULLSCREEN button.

i didn't think people could be this dense. worse than youtube commentators, almost.

@gconeen You are actually downloading the FLV file which is not HD you need to download the MP4 file which is in fact 720 http://i42.tinypic.com/11m7ur9.jpg
Tear...
I downloaded Dolphin a couple days ago. Still need to get ISOs of some of my games though.
Does this mean that the next generation Wii console would/could be able to upscale my current games? (Assuming backwards compatibility with current games?)
so does this work with more than just Brawl and Metroid? Just want to know because House of the Dead looks kinda fun.
Sad that a current gen system can already be emulated. That's what happens when you release a system based on old Gamecube technology.
you say it like its a bad thing.
Welcome to last year.
Why do I need to download those 2 pieces of software when the keystrokes Win+R and typing "dxdiag" will show me the speed of my cpu, how much RAM I have, and the type of video card I have.
Does anyone have any suggestions on getting YouTube's HD to work? When I first go to the page, it's displaying the video in the 640x360, low quality resolution. Clicking the HD button does reload the page and displays the video in a larger format, but it's 853x480 (480p). I've tried a half dozen or so different videos on YouTube that are supposed to be in HD, and they all only display in 480p.
what Nintendo needs is to release a WiiHD, play the same games so as not to leave Wii owners in the cold, but adds faster PowerPC and ATi chips to render 3D games in HD
The Gamecube supports 480p, in fact I've been playing Metroid Prime at 480p on it since I got the component video cable for the GC.
The later models don't, Nintendo removed the capability. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/nintendo-to-drop-digital-av-port-from-gamecube
I used to use 480p over component cable on my GameCube too.
I can see they dropped the HQ output for cost saving purposes, now considering that the majority of PS3 and 360 are connected to televisions through composite video ... pray that Sony and Microsoft don't do the same! ;)
Does it help to use ATi graphics like the Wii?
No, the emulator uses OpenGL which all cards support about equally per price.
I would presume that with a bluetooth enabled computer, you could play this with a wiimote no?
ps, i havent actually watched the video, so if that was covered, feel free to flame me as a moron..
What computer specs are needed to run this in 720p? requirements?
Could a maxed out MacBook Pro run this in Parallels?
But you are not a Jedi yet!
Damn, supposed to be a reply to Lance...
Metroid Prime is so sexy
Now, if only someone had enough time to port it over to Linux PS3 then we can play wii games on the PS3 WITH the wiimote... hehe..
Hey did you guys all see that you can unlock your wii? I've just done it and can now play dvds, backups and games from other systems. It doesn't harm your warrenty and you can do it yourself. Piece of cake. A mate sent me the link:
