CUBE B52HD PMP handles codecs galore, HD out for silly cheap
It's not like we're ever going to bump into this in our local electronics store, but boy is this CUBE B52HD portable media player tempting. The thing has a 5-inch 480 x 272 LCD, all the codecs we could ask for (including fan faves like FLAC, OGG, along with plenty of video options), 1280 x 720 video out, 8GB of built-in storage and an expansion slot of some sort. We're not sure about input methods, but hopefully the interface involves Brendan Fraser to some extent. The best news? All this can be theoretically yours for a mere 499 yuan, about $73 US.

I am sorry there is no way it will be $73.
Belive it dude.
I know a guy who just came back from Shenzen with one of thes things , it's called "Lucky Egoman", is even sleeker, it sports a touch screen, microSD and USB ports,TV out,G-sensor, FM sender and WIFI connection too, it plays MKV and OGG, DTV-B and it costed him less than 100 euros including a GPS add on (or so he says).
It's nearkly a week old and yesterday it was still working piping music wia the FM sender to the car stero while showing the road via GPS.
I tryied to google the "Lucky Egoman" but drew a blank, anyone knows something of this impressive piece of kit?

Could egoman be the manufacturer.

If it really is $73, I'll take two

You said the MP3 player was in that first picture! I see no such thing!
Neither did I. You ave to look harder away from the boobs.
she looks so...... soft
DAMN look at them jigglers
You called?
You'll need to buy four because at that price it will probably fall apart and you'll need spares.
It's is sweet for $73, but I also find it hard to believe they could sell it that cheaply without it having some major flaw. I guess if you handle it like a baby it might be of some use. Unfortunately, it will never show up in the U.S.
Actually, most of these knock offs are made in the same exact factory that the parts for the "real deal" things are made in and more still are assembled by the same exact people who assemble the "real deal" things as well. The key price differences are the local economy and how cheap labor costs are combined with the lack of needing to recoup major developmental costs.
Do you also accept pieces of string?
the Cube B52HD looks cool. I hope it will show up in the U.S. one day. And for $73, that's not bad a bad price, I may just buy one :)
That is an automatic WIN. But where is the catch? There HAS TO BE a catch...
The catch, I think, is that you cannot buy it outside of China.
the catch is no MP4 support or even WMV. I'm not sure where Paul is getting his "codecs galore" ideas from...
You can buy it outside of china using ebay. Most Chinese cheap pmps can be bought for less than $100 on ebay.
Haven't really looked into it, but the UI probably sucks. Not that it matters much if you just use it for videos though...
The Apple trolls must have Easter off. Ahh, how nice it feels...
Eh, I guess I'll have to fill the void then:
"OMG, WYH WLOUD YOU WNAT THSI PICE OF SHITE WHEN TEH iPhone IZ 99$"
Very nice! Now I would like to put in a bulk order. One for in front of the toilet, in the shower (please have a water proof case!), and one on the mirror. Might as well strap 2 to the head rests in the car.
strap one to the back of my wife's head too.
I'm pretty sure shipping these things across the Pacific will not be THAT cheap, plus money conversion etc. $79 I really doubt.
Never really seen the point of these things, I'd rather just have a laptop.
As someone pointed out, this doesn't do H.264, which is a dealbreaker for me. The screen is also a little low res considering how many PMPs have 800x480 screens these days. And would it kill companies to make one of these things with a big-ass hard drive in it? (Just a personal wish, not really a knock against this device in particular.) On the other hand, it's dirt cheap, but this demonstrates that you get what you pay for.
Maybe it will show up at dealextreme?

Ok so $73,.
This should have no problem replacing/killing the iPod touch, right??
Plenty of DVD players have a HDMI out, but still can only play SD resolution content. I don't think this PMP will be any different. I'd rather have my TV do the upscaling than a PMP with 480 x 272 "HD" display.
UH, this outputs 720p video natively. Alot better quality than any upscaling crap.
anantha92: The output might be 720p, but can it play files with that resolution at a decent framerate? Most DVD players can not, even if they can output SD video scaled to 720p or 1080.
it's probably painted with lead paint or something. high mercury and arsenic content? i'll take 2 anyhow!
Okay, the lead paint jokes get stale after the millionth time and you've just passed it.
the sad part is, will-rom's probably right. China is just now starting to mix paint with their lead coloring products.
RECESSION ANTIDOTE? 50 RECESSION ANTIDOTES?
Really, no MP4 or WMV support. :( I was going to look for one eBay. Never mind then.
Why do you guys torture me w/ products I can NEVER buy?!
This is why it pisses me off when I see iPhones priced at $700 and HTC's priced at $600... This shit should NOT be priced like that. I can't imagine why realistically ANY device would be priced over $300, outside of greed.
Look at Apple's and HTC's software and user experience, then look at some chinese PMPs. They can't even spell properly.
I realize that, but you can't tell me there is $400-$500 worth of programming going into EACH device. Christ, HTC's MSRP for the Touch Pro 2 is $1200!!! Highway robbery I tell ya!
we will never get this will we.
If they localize this with the English language, it will probably be available on Dealextreme ... fingers crossed.
Man, I hope!
But how come Ebay doesn't have any of these? Most things I buy are form people in China!
This one and the Egoman MP810RSTX-43 are impossible to find anywhere!
It's as if it was an illegal thing to own outside China or Japan wherever these things come from!
How come none of these cheap PMP's available in the US?
