Addon Spotlight: Daily Quest Viewer

Addon Spotlight takes a look at the little bits of Lua and XML that make our interfaces special. From bar mods to unit frames and beyond, if it goes in your Addons folder, we'll cover it here.

Daily Quest Viewer is my favorite kind of addon: it solves one problem well. It tells you what today's daily quests are, enabling you to stop pestering your guild (or the trade channel) for information. My guild has developed a policy of putting the daily dungeon and daily heroic in the message of the day, but that only works if an officer has managed to check the dailies and update the message.

DQV learns what the dailies are by communicating with other instances of DQV over the AceComm background channel. This means that the more people on your realm and faction running the mod, the better it will work, so please, for the good of your realm community (and me, if you're on Shadow Council), install DQV.

Once installed, the mod puts a blue "!" by your minimap that you can click to see what the quests are. This can be disabled; if you choose to do that, you can access the quest information by typing "/dqv show," and if the mod knows, it will tell you the daily dungeon, heroic, cooking, fishing, and battleground quests. Remember, though, the mod only knows what the quests are if someone running the mod has seen the quests, so the more people run it, the better. Install it, or my goblin minions will hunt you down.

Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. Check out a lighter auction mod that I'm enjoying as an alternative to Auctioneer. Track your runes and diseases more effectively. And remember, Addon Spotlight is fueled by viewers like you, so if you have a mod you think we should take a look at, drop us a line.
