Sharp Mebius NJ70A import now up for pre-order at Dynamism, LCD trackpad in tow
If the recent footage of Sharp's Mebius NJ70A and its LCD multitouch trackpad has gotten you hot, bothered, and reaching for your wallet, Dynamism is now taking pre-orders for the Japanese import netbook. The 4-inch touchscreen notwithstanding, you're looking at a 1.6GHz Intel Atom machine and the usual, ho-hum specs that go along with it -- not an easy pill to swallow when you're staring down a $999 price tag. Ship date is June 5th, and you might want to take that time to brush up on your skills with a Japanese International Layout keyboard if you're seriously considering the purchase.

First off, that's pretty sweet. I'd love to see programmers get creative with that trackpad.
That's almost as dumb as the Optimus keyboard. Once again, this device ignores the fact that you're not LOOKING at the input device; you're looking at the result.
It would have been a lot more useful to make the trackpad a Wacom-style tablet.
It's a much smarter idea than typical touchscreens, imho. At least here you're not reaching past the keyboard, and you're only getting in the way of select interface elements, the rest will be on the primary screen. It could be very interesting if utilized intelligently.
Yes, for instance a jog pad for scratching through audio/video would be pretty sweet.

... how do you know where I am looking?
... also, if it is an lcd itself then the 'result' might be on the touchpad, too.
....also... from the gallery it looks like it is a wacom style touch pad.. which works with a pen too.
finally... in this world of it not being necessary to have visual information on your input device.. why are all the letters printed on my keyboard?
Offtopic: Everytime i see the word "pre" in the title I get alittle excited at first glance. Then I look and realize it isn't the pre being release nor is it anything to do with the pre . And I die alittle more inside. Your killing me Palm.
More offtopic: Has anyone gone to SlashGear recently? I just saw that they totally stole the Engadget teal (just like how Engadget Mobile stole the T-Mobile magenta). But then again I haven't been to that site in probably a year.
How much does it cost to upgrade to a spacebar?
omgspcbrsRlksolstcntrywhtRUlkoldorsmthng?
My life has hit an all-time low when I realize I am able to read that without much difficulty...
wow the first 3 times i read that i had no idea what it said. 4th time i got every word without a hitch.
Damn, after reading it about a hundred times, I still understand only a few words... But then again, when I read Richard's comment I'm actually glad about it. :D
@GB: Translation:
Oh my god! Spacebars are like SO last century, what are you like old or something?
@Richard: Agreed. (>.
Yikes. I actually understood that the second time I read it.
Atom N270 + Vista = bad bad bad bad bad. Actually N270 in general = bad.
This is a good start.
I hope more do this. I would really like this on my laptop!
How much does it cost to upgrade to a spacebar? Replica Panerai watches .
Does the trackpad lcd support sideshow?
$1000 and still no N280
Am I the only one that thinks that the model number looks like it says NINJA?
Yo!
What is "testing" from digg.com?
Please be careful and don't type your password into a "testing" windows so your pass isn't stolen in an inelegant way.
Because I don't have a digg.com account yet was asked for password as soon as I opened Engadget "previous page".
Gotta love that trackpad though. How great would it be if the lille buddy had the CLUV platform rather than Atom inside.
*dream*
M.
now i can watch porn on my touch pad
I don't think it's made for left handed people.
I want this on my MacBook.
I heard that they are already developing a card scanner for the touch track pad, since it has optical sensors.
Cool ideas in a nice package, but too bad about the N270 and Vista.
Pretty cool. I heard they're also developing a card scanner for the touch pad, because it has an optical scanner.
Too bad about the lame choice of hardware and OS. Atom N270 + Vista = fail.
kinda neat if you have specific appication for it. shortcuts kinda neat maybe. but other then that who looks down whenthere using there computer. and if you are doin that sort of thing just get a tablet, be much much better. neat but not worth the extra 500 bucks
neat tho... ahaha
I had a toshiba satellite about 5 years back that had a black and white lcd as the touchpad, was actually very nice, you could literally see where the scroll bars were, and if you tapped the upper corner, you got a calculator, media controls, and a couple other neat things.
it could even play b/w GIF animations as a background
Sharp, please sell that as a USB peripheral.
PLEASE!
How come nobody else cares that the tiny screen can push out 480 lines of resolution, while the much bigger one only manages 600! I have the Kohjinsha SX3, and one of the best features is 800 lines of resolution in an 8.9" screen.
They should have put this on the W700DS lol
