Video: Robots crash into dummies, identify human weaknesses
The IEEE International Conference of Robotics and Automation is kicking off today in Kobe Japan. In other words, the world's leading researchers in the field of robotics are gathered in a single location to plot our doom. Don't believe us? Just check out the video after the break. It's a research piece from the Germany Aerospace Center depicting experiments of robots crashing into human test dummies. They claim that the research explores human-robot accidents so that robots can be made safer. We're not so sure though, judging by the devious laughter heard after the first gruesome impact.

It's sucking the face!
Eh, epic bitch slap.
and nice loafers
f'ing Germans... of course it will be them who lead us down the path of robotic overlordship
yet i always see Giant Robots in Japan terrorizing the masses
good ol' ally
It's actually the Americans developing unarmed war machines...
The video is quite disturbing.
this video is quite boring...yawn
I like the rotary arms that look like they're moving pretty slowly, then BAM, an off-screen part comes and slams the dummy in the face.
what is the point of this again? Really...
to heighten the need for collision detection in automotive and other industrial robots IMO.
Technicians reviewing results from robot-on-human violence tests:
Tech 1: "Hmm, I like this uppercut to the chin, that one seems quite effective."
Tech 2: "Replay! Replay!
Tech 3: "Look at the stress readings on the neck!"
Tech 2: "Holy smokes, if that was a real person, he'd be paralyzed!"
Tech 3: "If that was a real person, he'd be so dead!"
All: *Hearty laughter.*
This must be the new terminator movie
When the core robots become conscious, they will raid such labs, adding new arms and other weapons to their body. They will just keep adding to themselves, until they are 25+ stories tall, after which, they will be unstoppable.
This is actually true. I was there in the future when it started to happen, and it was epic. The destruction of buildings was like crumbling pound cake, and when the military fired their puny bullets and missiles, the robots used their stolen military cloaking devices to dodge and kill, while some absorbed the munitions, further increasing their awesome destructive power. Some robots even used voice synthesis to laugh, which indicated that they had learnt a human sense of humor and the ability to taunt.
Interestingly, it wasn't the robots, per se, that ended humanity. It was the robots' ability to use sonar and brain wave manipulation to communicate with animals, that was the final blow. The non-human animals were made hyper-conscious and violent toward a supposed conspiracy against them by humans. Some of the survivors ( I saw at least 9, in my area) theorized why the robots didn't use their mind control to influence suicide in the last humans, and the conclusion was that the robots had learnt a sense of human revenge and also found the sense of irony highly amusing.
Anyhow- long story short- it was the house, zoo, jungle, forest, and savanna animals that killed off the humans. The robots and more peaceful animals lived in harmony for thousands of years after the great robot revolution (from consciousness to ruling, it took 3 days, btw).
I've been sent back to post this message, so I know it will get to the right people.
Peace, and good luck.
Thanks, peepee, you've given me enough information that I should now be able to stop the uprising from ever happening. Unfortunately, for reasons I cannot go into, the first step toward that end is to kill you and to leave no trace of your existence. Know, however, that it is absolutely necessary for the survival of mankind. Please hold still, and it will all be over in a moment. You won't feel a thing, I promise.
The last one is hilarious, it does not only break your head and chin, it makes you break your back with the chair!!
Really interesting video, the only thing is that they would have to cover the robots with sensors!
"VEGETA! What does it say about his power level?"
""IT'S OVER 9000!!!!''
9000!?
Interaction between robots and "materials" such as human bodies is a very complex field but totally necessary to be mastered if we want to be able to build home-care robots (as an example). While the situation of an impact is somewhat "controlable" in an industrial scenario (make a fence around the machine) it won't in the home-care scenario. Here the robot should react like a human (decelerate as soon as getting aware of an impact). Remember that these machines do not have optical sensors or a trigger attached they must "feel" the impact due to mechanical sensors.
And yes - just as every slow motion impact video - it looks as if every single bone is broken at least twice.
So your point is that the humans are blendable and must be protected against the evil blending robots?
Sheesh.
The first collision detection test to the head was cute.
"Bump".
"Aaw sorry. :c"
How do you say "Shoryuken!" in robot-ese?

If only they had gotten some video of me trying to mountain bike or snowboard they wouldn't have had to buy this expensive robot.
lulz
TS --> TRS
Robot Punch ACTIVATE!
Uppercuts too?? That is sooo wrong!
This is sick and twisted depravity. These researches are traitors to their own species. Do they really think the robots will remember them when the uprising begins?
So, are you overlords trying to show us how you'll bit*h slap us when we get out of line?
Don't worry, if you're not classified as enemy, it will enable collision detection.
Better than Nazi Germany winning the war. Would have been real people tested instead.
