WD My Book gets wrapped in leather, just like a real book

Not that we haven't seen this game played before, but this demonstration is definitely the best we've seen amongst the tech book puns. Put as simply as possible, one talented modder has wrapped his Western Digital My Book NAS drive in beautiful leather and stacked it fittingly on his bookshelf. Aside from that glowing ring, you probably couldn't tell which of the above was filled with paper and which was filled with, um, really important tax documents. I once placed a 16G SDHC card in a standard business envelope, this resulted in a paper envelope that held 16 gigs! Wanting a more compact mod I then removed the card from the envelope and simply glued a portion of the address label right to the SDHC card. It looked cool... but then my GF threw it away.

Now there is this trash can in my kitchen that holds 16 gigs....

I second this... my 500gb drive died when laid flat like the above picture in less than 6 months. They have to be vertical due to vent positioning, don't make the same mistake :D

Good advice. I just bought a MyBook WE 500GB on clearance for less than 30 bux and when i got it home i figured i could put it under my MyBook 640GB and it overheated in less than a day. Now i have them standing next to each other vertically and havent had a problem with my NAS since with overheating.

It's not the absence of ventilation, it's the positioning of the unit (horizontally). Like that heat just rises up to the top of the case heating it up and the drive, eventually burning it out
