ASUS Eee PC 1005HA found in the wild, bests the Seashell in the little things
We just got through looking at ASUS's new Eee PC 1008HA Seashell, but it might be the 1005HA that really strikes a balance between form and function. The upcoming netbook has many of the Seashell's stylings, but forgoes the recessed ports, port doors and hokey mini VGA plug to bring a more functional experience while hardly sacrificing the aesthetics. This version in the wilds of Germany also has a 6 cell removable battery instead of the 1008HA's "next-gen" 3 cell integrated battery -- we'll have to wait for the benchmarks to see who is crowned the winner, but anybody who's ever had the joy of swapping batteries on a transoceanic flight has probably already made up their mind.

They look like they are having a good time.
The title should have read "ASUS Eee PC 1005HA found in the wild, bests the Seashell in the little things, enjoys spooning in its spare time."
i know, this should be considered NSFW, even though interracial laptop love is hot
Eee Spoon.
Flashbacks of the black and white cookie come to mind.
those are flashbacks i wish i could get rid of. the two sides could never get along once they share the communal space of your stomach.
Ah, look the netbooks are spooning....
What in the god damn world would possess someone to buy a seashell now?
Its spoonable capabilities? A first for any netbook!
Some might claim that the recessed ports give it a better look overall. I'd of course go for the 1005HA at this point since it's smaller.
The 1005 is 1.4" thick (35.5mm) and the 1008HA is 1" thick (25.7mm at the thickest). Pick the one you like, but they're not the same size. The 1008HA is much thinner.
And has a removable battery. With 6 cells.
i just ordered a 1008HA and i can't say this post made me second guess myself. i have no intention of ever replacing the battery, connecting it to a secondary display or using wired internet connections with this thing. i went for looks with the 1008HA. i already have my overkill behemoth desktop for my real computing needs.
come on Engadget. putting next gen in quotation marks makes it seem like its a worthless gimmick. the 3 cell in the 1008HA uses Li-Pol instead of Li-Ion resulting in more juice per cell. it might not be as good as a 6 cell Li-Ion but its not as bad as you want us to think.
"i have no intention of ever replacing the battery"
I have no "intention" of changing my lightbulbs either, but when they are done for I really have no choice. That shitty 3 cell isn't going to last very long.
and 9 months later, out comes a cute little asus smartphone
or a Dumb phone..
There's a hands on video that has been released too:

Wow - bad photograph.
I looked at that and my first thought was 'cripes - that lower netbook is like thick as a brick...' then I wondered if there were two laptops stacked under the white one - but only seeing one - I finally got it that it's the angle of the phote.
they're doin' it!
It is very clear that they got the inspiration from the Macbook Air.
ah, the smell of fanboyism in the afternoon.....
Battery life FTW
Ebony & Ivory...
hello
again
I've never really felt the need to buy a second battery, to have ready to swap out anyway. I'm never far from power. So, is this a draw for me? Should I just go for the 1008HA?
Go for the 1008HA if you want slim, smooth and around 1kg. Go for the 1005HA if you want a slightly less smooth and slim more utilitarian machine with a removable battery/better battery life and don't mind that it weights a little more.
Simple.
I am with you regarding changing batteries, but I'd still prefer having the USB ports more accessible and not needing a dongle for the VGA port.
lol, it's still pretty damn big.
it does not give the same illusion of thinness that the Apple Mac Air does. Regardless of which is truly thinner, this Seashell does not exhibit the appearance of thinness quite as well.
mmm looks like Sex... cheap Sex haha xP
How is this different from She sells sea shells by the sea shore?
I was going to come in here and make a joke about Notebooks spooning, but alas, I have been beaten. It also warms my heart that there are other people as odd as I am.
Once you go black, you never go back.
