Video: Latest Palm Pre ad makes poppies seem brutish
You want obsessive coverage eh, well here it is: the latest Palm Pre ad just unveiled on Facebook. No smack-talk, no smarmy reference to the competition, just an impassioned plea that approaches gently upon the pads of kittens, gazes in your direction, and then walks away. If we didn't know better, we'd guess that Pre was a new brand of feminine deodorant. Give it a whiff after the break.

hawt
I'll take 2 of her and 1 palm pre, than you very much.
I'll take 2 of the palm pres and 0 of her. Seriously, I wouldn't get my greg within a half mile of that.... thing.
That ad made me nauseous when I first saw it. I've watched it twice now, and my thoughts are still a simple "WTF?"
Odd commercial...and people call Apple "cultish?"
Yeah... nothing really much to look at there guys.
I mean that in every respect possible.
@Entropy
.... but she's canadian.

Looks aimed at cientologists...

Buy a pre and you'll get strange guys worshiping you ?
@nerdtalker: knees to sharp for you?
Are those the dancing prisoners from that Philippine jail?

@OneLove you wil the "made me snarf my coffee" award.
I like it
Pretty intense for a phone commercial. I'LL TAKE EIGHT
Is this "commercial" being aired on ... you know .. TV?
m83 rawks
Agreed.
What was she in Asia over seeing her Poppy fields?
Because the pre i made in china by under paid monks. DUH
You made a pre in china next to under paid monks???
I salute you sir~
For some reason, at the 1 minute mark, that baby's eyes just look strange when I first saw it, like it was an alien.. :O
Whoops, I mean the 27 second mark.. Lol.
yeah that baby looks pretty funny
Sorry, but that commercial just didn't do any thing for me at all. There was no "reach out and grab your attention" in this commercial at all.
maybe that is excactly what the comercial is trying to do, that excactly
It's far more attention-catching than a plain-looking hand holding a plain-looking phone in front of a plain-looking white background, with a plain-sounding voice telling you in plain terms what the plain phone is currently doing, and how that makes it quite plainly the greatest phone to ever fall from heaven. Kudos to Palm for being at least marginally adventurous with their commercial.
and for all you brainless apple zombies, he's referring to iphone commercials
While both adverts have there merits, I like the creativity of this commercial and my initial reaction was, "cool ad", but all the way through it I was thinking "More shots of the phone please". Apples ads are completely comprised of shots of the iPhone, telling you what the phone is capable of. Its hard for me to think in terms of; 'would this ad get me interested in the Palm Pre?', as I've known about it for months and my interest is probably at its peek. Whereas the Apple ads show a new set of apps showing me whats new, which can interest the 3 people who has never seen one, yet still interest those who already know about it by being informative. I guess then I think the Apple ads are more effective, but the Palm Pre isn't bad by any means.
the problem with ads like this os: there's no branding. It may be part of a series we haven't seen yet, and we could all be wrong, but there's nothing in this commercial that says "THIS IS A PRE COMMERCIAL."
The iPhone ads may be boring and matter-of-fact, but you know the second that hand pops up on a white screen "THIS IS AN IPHONE COMMERCIAL." Establishing a brand is key in marketing, and I don't see dancing monks selling a phone. Microsoft is going thru the same problems now, as well. They don't have a branding plan, they're throwing out 6 year olds, laptop hunters, and whatever else they can think of to establish a plan.
Hopefully Palm has a plan, because I just saw 48 seconds of dancing in a field, 10 seconds of the phone, and 2 seconds of a Palm logo. That ain't selling nothin!
@ htmlreal,
I agree with you completely here, this ad (to me at least) is a complete failure. It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it! It does absolutely nothing to establish a brand for Palm or the Pre for that matter. It's not iconic and not particularly memorable either, I believe the ads on the Palm website are far, far more effective than this rehash of a tourism ad.
@ Get Gad, you can Get Lost! You may think the iPhone ads are boring, but 17 million plus people didn't think so. 1 Billion app downloads! I wonder how that happened? You really think Palm are gonna get that many downloads with advertising like that?! If you do, you need your head tested.
Lithium ion touchstone deodorant?
Recession antidote please!! I guess the girl would be too much to ask for also?
She has no knockers at all. Pre needs to take a page out of godaddy.com book. I dont even want this shit anymore.
Whoa try watching that high. Intense.
yeah i did. it was way too over the top. went straight over my head
Another one here!
Wow, looks like a Clorox ad. I still want one.
These must have been the ones who didn't make the cut for the Beijing Olympics opening performance.
:D
My mind drifted back to Beijing '08 also.
Not a bad ad. Maybe it was meant to invoke the old 'Zen of Palm' feeling w/ a bit of tranquility or green in there.
My first thought exactly - Palm hired Zhang Yimou?
Yeahh... Buy 1 Palm Pre & get 1 lady... What a deal!!!
so many females, young kids and teens will go crazy for this thing.. I was excited about it back in december.. but now I have realized that Palm is no longer the Palm it used to be.. all I wanted was an updated Treo with software that would at least let me put my own wallpaper in the background..
all this complicatedness with synergy and web os and gestures and glossy finish and media player syncing with itunes and facebook and myspace and twitter and short battery life are all the things I didn't want in my new Palm
Thank you Palm.. I've used your phones for the past 5 years and you just made me a new Blackberry customer
not to mention the old Treo's are pretty durable phones and this new piece of hardware hardly looks like it could take half the beating that my Treo's do... what a shame. .
all the women are gonna go crazy for this thing, just sit back and watch it happen.. I'll still be using my old Treo brick
Cool video
Hum... yeah... I dont know.. I like the new PRE a lot but that ad doesnt cut it for me. Nice CG landscape though.
Love M83 and I would have loved to love this commercial, but I'm afraid it's not working for me.
I don't understand the shapes they are taking. (work, family etc). They don't make sense.
I'm so glad they're not doing the comparison thing though (we are better in this and that).
Anyone who has a better understanding of the commercial please, do explain...
she says how everything rearranges all the time. her life, friends lives, work, all of that. the monks or whatever keep changing into a different form/shape or whatever you can call it. they keep rearranging, all in one flow. which webos is supposed to do. just flow perfectly, like they are in that video. idk, thats my meaning behind it.
can't wait for this to come to verizon
@rocknrolla
Not until it becomes the Palm Post.
I like how the people make a ripple effect that mimics the phone when you touch the screen.
a caucasian girl controls asians... ahh looks likes Palm exploring Nokia's territories. too bad the N97 would sell more than pre
