Samsung jumps into e-book reader game with the SNE-50K

Samsung's announced it's jumping into the best game in town -- the paperless book trade -- with its SNE-50K e-book reader. With 512MB of onboard storage, a five-inch touchscreen and stylus, and a complete lack of wireless or internet capabilities, it's not the most advanced reader we've ever seen, but it's slim and light, at nine millimeters thick and weighing about 6.5 ounces. In South Korea, where the reader will be launched first, Samsung has partnered with Kyobo Bookstore, one of the largest booksellers in the country. There's no word on launches outside of South Korea at this time, but Samsung does plan on showing a prototypes for other countries at a trade show in January (most likely CES).

As far as this goes, I'm happy to see more competition out there. It can only improve the quality and drive the prices down for us consumers. They'll probably have to beef it up a bit for a western audience, but it shows promise.

hope samsung bumps this up to a 8.9x11" within the next year. I'll need one of these for grad school (with native PDF support and some form of bookmarking/highlighting). and please, just USB connectivity; no 3G or even wi-fi required.

Touchscreen + stylus. But since you obviously can't read, the device won't be of any use to you.

Also, I don't know if you know this but there are some very unattractive girls out there, and no doubt, a good number of them are Asian. Statistical studies of irony indicate that the Asian girlfriend you lucky boys will all share will be roughly 450 pounds with buck teeth, a lisp and an uncomfortably chafy facial hair problem.

It's become almost obligatory, or a tradition to remark about model girls (not that I do). I would feel Engadget post would be "incomplete" if it had chicks in the photo yet nobody replies with something like "how much for the chick", or "I would rather want the chick".
