LG X130 goes from dawn till dusk on standard 9-cell battery
12 hours. That, according to LG, is the new benchmark by which all wannabe long-lasting laptops will have to measure up. Of course, we've seen similar aftermarket solutions before, but it's good to see a manufacturer stick a flag in the ground -- and a big rump on the back -- in the race for the highest endurance netbook. And boy is the X130 a netbook: 1024 x 600 resolution, 10-inch screen and the predictable Atom N270 et al. Koreans can grab one now for 789,000 Won ($639), with almost worldwide availability to follow shortly. Check out our review of the X120 for a flavor of LG's history in the market, while we go look for actual benchmarks undermining that legendary battery life claim.

Stop these average speced netbooks already. Give us something new.
well, the price is not so average ....
but that also nothing new .....
Seriously, just go buy a laptop :|
Jeff, you clearly don't get the difference between 10'' netbook and real laptop. As your mom told to me last night. It's all about the size.
so his mom rejected you?
I wish I could say that she did not ... I wish
Holy crap that's expensive. Sorry, but a 9-cell battery on piece of crap hardware is not worth nearly $700 when my Eee PC 1000HE can last about 9 hours on much better hardware for only $250.
BUT IT HAS COLOR OPTIONS!!! COLOR OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So does the 1000HE. I realize your post was sarcastic, but even that isn't a gain over it.
Mark,
Electronics are always overpriced in Korea compared to the rest of the world. When X130 crosses the ocean I guarantee it will be less than $500. As to the "piece of crap hardware" I hope you're talking about the comparison of stat. LG is a well respected brand in Korea competing with Samsung.
@Steve:
Have you heard of the Asus 1005HA or Toshiba NB205 which come with 9 and 10 hour batteries, atom N280 for under $400. This is "same old same old", but at a higher price.
You are a smart man.
The problem is the average computer-illeterate consumer wants to buy a netbook as a "cheap" laptop replacement, because they use the old personal lie, "Well I only use the computer for checking email and browsing the internet"
First off you browse the world wide web, not the internet, but thats a whole different issue.
Netbooks were cheap toys when they came out for tech-heads that wanted something they could carry with them, now they are even being marketed as laptop replacements...it's so worthless.
While this is true they are useful for watching divx's on planes
I agree, computing power and bells and whistles aren't everything.
Exactly. Those who frequently flying over the Pacific Ocean knows the value of long battery life. You buy a netbook to surf internet or watch DivX movie. If you want bells and whistles, go buy a laptop.
I'd be surprised if watching movies would give more than 5 hours on this hardware, but then again we'd need some real-world reviews for that. If that is the case, you'd be better off with a PSP filled with transcoded vids via MediaCoder PSP Edition - assuming vids and/or games is all you were after.
Still, it's impressive. If what they say is true using real-world power settings, not lab-optimised BS figures.
I'll just take the Korean girl.
"From Dusk till Dawn" I love that song
600px... Come on, stop giving us such ridiculous resolutions! 768px should be the minimum to call it a computer

600px... Come on, stop giving us such ridiculous resolutions! 768px should be the minimum to call it a computer"
have to agree with you there i CANT STAND the 600pixels!!! where in on earth are the hi" deff netbooks? give me a thin long lasting high def netbook? oh thats right we are still using the crap intel chipset witch pulls 12 watts =(
Its not always the you see ease of using something, net-book while traveling, laptop while working, gaming laptop while playing games, then they may design a machine to use in bathroom, another one for kitchen and one more for drawing room, I have 14" laptop and feel okay with it, while carrying too. If you have spare money to buy different computers for different occasion then okay, otherwise we should chose an optimum performance.
