The fine folks at
GameSpot called around in San Francisco to find that many of their local GameStops and Best Buys have been selling the PS3 Slim, but some have already sold out of their first shipments. Our own calls to a few New York GameStops showed that they'd sold out of their first shipments as well (so much for that September 1 ship date, huh?) and were expecting their next shipment early next week. We also know plenty of folks who've had no trouble
scoring one online, but who knows how long that supply will last. How about you, any luck tracking down this not-so-elusive console? Personally, we're still waiting on the go-ahead from our main man

If you can find a PS3 slim anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it. I can get any retail buyer on the phone with you and get them to verify that there's not a single retail location in America where there's a PlayStation 3 Slim on the shelf for sale. They've all been sold in a matter of minutes.
engadget...it would probably do you some good to include 1) waiting to pick one up or 2) already have an older model.

And Paul, I agree with SimbaDogg, you should have added: "I already own a previous model", especially if you are going to add "What is a PS3". As a result of the omission, I find this survey less interesting!
Is there an options call- I already have an old ps3 or the "I like my old 80gb ps3 cause it looks nicer and more expensive than the new slim."
Maybe I should put mine on ebay after all. I have not picked up any games yet, so what the hell!
don't get your hopes up. this is an absolute BS article. There is no shortage.
There might be an artificial shortage if they recently hired some nintendo marketing guy, but otherwise probably not I bet.
Considering there isn't as much consumer hype (and therefore demand) as there would be in an initial console launch, and there are plenty of similarly priced alternative PS3s, I wouldn't bother. The eBay gold rush on PS3s at initial launch only lasted about a week anyway because supply > demand at the time. Although, it couldn't hurt to see how this plays out in the next week or so.
I was able to reserve one at gamestop for $50 and got it on aug.25
I actually canceled my pre-order for the PS3. I walked into gamestop and said, I'd like to cancel my pre-order. They acted like I just proved that their religious beliefs were based on a lie. They were like, "Bu, Bu, Bu, But you can't do that! Why would you do such a thing?" the cash register started to talk and say "cannot compute, cannot compute, cannot...)

I am already too busy with my 360 and my wii is begging for attention.
The primary reason this model is selling is because of the lower price, so I doubt eBay is going to fetch any big premiums.
There are still plenty at Best Buys in the DC area.

Completed agree... I had to choose "I don't care enough to look", because I already have a fatty PS3, and really don't care.
Every Engadget poll I've ever seen is missing any response that appropriately describes my situation. Every single stinking one. They're either very bad at poll options, or it's some inside joke.
Yeah, the scientists who are using these poll results are really going to be pissed when their findings don't stand up to peer review.

The "Don't care enough to look," sounds so harsh. I love my 360, but I'd at least consider this PS3 if I were shopping for a console right now. And now that they have a decent ad or two, it's like I want them to do better.
These polls always seem weird. They either leave out a major category (already have a PS3), or put the only "show me the results" option as negative.
Likewise, I need a "I'm broke, I need time to save up."

my local Best Buy has around 110 slim ps3's in stock, and about 900 of the fatty ps3
