Sprint backtracks, cancels $100 Pre service credit offer
No idea what kind of Zima-based shenanigans are going on in Sprint's marketing department today, but that less-than-impressive $100 Palm Pre service credit promotion was all apparently a mistake, according to John Paczkowski at the Wall Street Journal. Sprint says the promotion was put into the system by error and has since been pulled and canceled, although customers who signed up during the glorious six hours the deal was live will still get the credit -- and if you act fast enough, you might still be able to get in, because the promo is still live as we write this. Amazing.

Those bitches!
Yes, how dare we have the "audacidations"...
.............
.............
Shut it, please.
going back in time and aborting iMbeciles?
sadly there's no app for that
just called sprint and they noted my account to get the 100 discount after 3 months, bought my pre on the 1st and they still did it
First rule of "$100 Pre service credit offer", is dont talk about "$100 Pre service credit offer"!
I work at Radio Shack and it is still in our system, the only stipulation is that you have to port your number from another service to recevie the $100 bill credit. BTW: the Pre is still only $199 without a mial in rebate.
Its now THE SHACK. You're fired.
Haha
I can't believe you even went to The Shack for the Pre, do you know how many times that store has been screwing people over in general?
Nobody said they were going* to the shack ^
FAIL
"The Shack" is a name of a local club that features jello-wrestling, not a consumer electronics store.
Regardless of how you feel or have heard, it is still RadioShack. We have a branding campaign calling ourselves "The Shack," but are not changing the name of the company (at least not in the near future).
If that were the case, I'd be jumping ship. The last company I worked for changed their name to "The City," and the rest is history.
Also, for relevance, Marcus' information is still current if anyone wants the credit.
That's not good...
How does something so ... particular ... (ie, $100 credit over 3mos for customers coming with an outside phone #) get put in "by error?" Like, I can understand if somebody presses the "2" key instead of a "1" or "6months" instead of 3, sure, human error. But, am I the only person who works somewhere where every freaking painstaking detail of everything has some sort of committee and meeting to determine everything? How can Sprint not?
"In error" could mean some Sprint Marketdroid came up with that idea, implemented it "officially", then some Sprint Legaldroid said "Uh...guys..we can't do that - remember our very-specifically-worded-about-pricing contract with Palm?". Or maybe it wasn't a Sprint legaldroid who said that, but a Palm Legaldroid - can't have $99 Pres running around when $99 Pixies are being introduced, huh?
Sprint billing sure works in mysterious ways.
In the three weeks that I gave them a shot, their billing couldn't even handle simple stuff like returns and exchanges properly. Liked the Pre though. Would've kept it if sprint billing was not screwed up as it is right now.
Sp sprint be crackin open Z's with dell now?
Yeah, I thought it was the Dell guys hittin' the "Z" (as the kids call it)
No idea kind of editors you've got.
Which should I get? Pre or smart-dumphone?
pre
Pre...had it since launch day and have few complaints
lame.
lame post ^
Ditto
interesting post fail
I cannot believe Engadget links news from John MORON Paczkowski
Got my check 2 weeks ago!
ZIMA!!!!!! lol
Talk about a sinking ship once called "ifonekllr",LOL.
Next!
Ummm...why are we sitting around here.
We need to get this thing NOW! =D
my buddies company switched about 40 lines from Verizon to Sprint because people wanted Pres and Tours. the lady at sprint ported the numbers before the company got the phones so people were without phones for 2 days(she later admitted to doing it to meet her quota), then got charged way more than they were supposed to. So they ported them ALL back to Verizon (people missed their pres) and its been a few weeks and Sprint has not even called to ask WTF? I go to the Sprint store to pay my bill and i get a call asking what i thought of the service?? But when they loose 40 lines no one cares. Sometimes I think that company is ran by the California Legislature.... I am surprised this is the biggest blender i have seen reported, i expect much worse!
You iphone lovers need to get a life, stop being worshiping fanatics, this has nothing to do with the phone, it pertains to the management at Sprint. I played with one and love it, until i attempted to type on it ;-/, but then again i cannot type on any of the new Palms
"Team -
The $100 PRE Port-in offer has been pulled. The Palm PRE is going to $149.99 tomorrow, but the port-in credit no longer exists. Most likely, this will appear in tonight's Dealer Communication."
This is what I was told, as I work for Sprint.
Wow, as if we needed any more evidence that Sprint's marketing team has no idea what the heck it's doing. It's tough to tell sometimes whether Sprint's marketers work for Sprint or Verizon. Let's see how they manage to blow the Hero release.
And how much is Sprint stock per share? WOW.

Thats a good point maybe people that work for Sprint are being paid by Verizon to be as bad as possible. When i got my Pearl i ordered over the phone. When i called to activate it, the lady was rude and didnt have the plan i wanted which was on mylaptop on sprints website. So i drove to the store with laptop and a PDF of that screen, and the same thing. I called again same thing. So i called cancellation department. Before i could finish the man there interruped me and said there were two plans for my phone, and what do you know, it was the one i wanted that was on their own website. I asked why no one else at thier company knew that plan, and he said people were going through training. I am temped by the Hero, but am scared to change plans, you never know what Sprint to do to my account. here is a girl on youtube that had a 7,000$ bill from Sprint.
Sprint .... why do you hate your customers? why do you want them to port?
I mean Sprint has a decent network in my area, they are getting a nice portfolio of phones finally, but who wants to deal with them? Most would rather pay a few extra bucks a month and have Verizon and save the hassle.
Well I just had the most miserable experience with Sprint trying to get in on this deal.
In short, my credit card company blocked the transaction (online) for my protection but assured me, after the third call, that it should go through and if not to call Sprint directly which I did, and that didn't work either. So, I end up using a different card and when the order was just about completed I get disconnected.
Calling back turned into a nightmare. The first person (and you know there's more than one) said he saw two orders in the system for me and that he needed to transfer me to another person. Person two had a very heavy accent and I could not communicate with her but said something about additional information, so off to person three I go. All person three could tell me was that I needed to go into a Sprint store and provide two pieces of ID, and despite my numerous questions as to why he would not tell me. So I ask to speak to a supervisor.
I explained the entire situation to the supervisor and all he would tell me is the same thing the previous idiot was saying, that I needed to go into a store and provide two forms of ID. At this point I'm too po'd to deal with this anymore so I told him to cancel my order and reverse the charge on my credit card.
So after about three hours I'm still stuck with verizon and just wasted three hours of my life trying to cash in on this deal.
Thanks Sprint!
Wow. That's crappy! I was thinking of switching to sprint to save a few bucks but damn sprint seems like a terrible company. Any current sprint customers have any good things to say about this? Are you happy?
Service is great in my area but the customer should be avoided like the H1N1...
My buddy just got off the phone with a Sprint Rep. no more than 20 minutes ago - in just 45 minutes he cashed in on the Pre deal and then some since he ported from Virgin (formerly Helio) he got an extra $50 off! The $100 credit will be posted on his account in 2 months - in two $50 credits...guess he lucked out!
Sprint is fine once you get going.... but what that guys says is typical, if you want anything done right you have to call cancellation department.
I'm going thru them to get the TP2 for $200.00 and no mail in rebates.... Wish me LUCK!!!
You know why it was canceled? Because Sprint is in collusion with the other carriers to have mandatory Early Termination Fees. A deal that rewards customers for breaking other carriers' contracts and switching only works if it flies under the radar of the collective ass-ramming all mobile users must receive.
For those who didn't get the deal and are bummed about losing out, I can offer somewhat of a potential consolation prize in the form of a free cell bill audit by my company, Validas. If you go to our website at fixmycellbill.com and upload your Sprint, Verizon Wireless, US Cellular, AT&T, or T-Mobile bill in pdf format, we'll analyze your bill for free to determine how much money you could save by optimizing your plan. It costs $5 for a single full report and implementation of our recommended changes to your plan, but again, it's free to have your bill audited to find out exactly how much money we could save you. The average fixmycellbill.com user cuts their cell bill by around 20 percent.
If you're interested in learning more about us, check out Validas in the media, most recently on Fox News at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409 .
