In case you missed it: Palm introduces the Pixi
Apple might've grabbed all the eyeballs today, but it's Palm that actually got busy with a significant new hardware release: the Palm Pixi. Check out our in-depth coverage of the new Sprint-bound QWERTY candybar at the read link. Or don't. We're not the boss of you.

I heard they are doing a Palm Lumberjack as well for the male demographic.
*golf clap*
For what it's worth, I LOL'ed.
As apposed to the Pixi... aimed at the mythical creature demographic? tight market that!
They are already working on the palm tre.
Tre-O, I say tre-eh-eh-oooooo.
WebOS come and me wanna new pho-ooone
go paul!
Why NOT forget about the Palm Pre!?
Seriously!
What is it to Engadget!?
Oh for Pete's sake!
I just read the article (and comments) below - now I know why Engadget doesn't want us to forget the Pixi.
Good grief - that was subtle...
NEVAR FORGET
what about the facePalm? :D

Don't forget the Zune!!!
I love the look.
What's up with that huge space between the keyboard and the screen? It's like they intentionally made it longer for no visible reason.
It's a good idea, but I'm not digging how wonky huge it looks.
Oh, forgot about it, just remembered it...forgot about it again, next. Same goes for Apple.
Wow... that was different.
So is it a pre without the sliding?
and a smaller screen.
It's pretty much a treo with WebOS.
Wrong, it's like a Centro with webOS - No Wifi.
OK, I love you guys, and I haven't ever accused you guys of posting something that wasn't newsworthy to promote a product, but...seriously? And you already mentioned the Pixi in the post right below this one. Y'know, the one where you said Rubenstein was going to be on your Sho...wait.
I wonder if Engadget favors certain manufacturers cus they get love from those manufacturers. What I mean is maybe Palm let Engadget get the scoop on the Pixi, so the moment they announced it Engadget was the go to news source to see the hands on(just like what happened). So due to the scoop Engadget shows some Palm Love(snicker).
Either way, who really is surprised by this? If I was a cell news company and some companies were good to work with and others weren't wouldn't I like to report on the nice guys and shit all over the not so nice guys? This is business, business is about money. News is about money, it isn't about being unbiased anymore. Face it we're all human an not one of us is unbiased. Because liking or disliking anything creates bias. Look at the main stream media, does anyone see any bias there? Heck NO.
Btw, I hate Apple. Not because I specifically love any of their competitors, I just hate Apple for being dictator nazi fucks who stifle what their users options are. But people love them anyways. C'est la vie.
cool phone, stupid name. honestly pixi? that's like women only right there.
i disagree. i want it, not because of the name, but because of the hardware.
It has no mirror, so...not for women.
i dunno, the Pixies, were pretty bad ass....
Ya, thats half the population.
Do you think many women are going to be rocking fatty phones like the N900 or the TP2?
"Is that an N900 in your pocket or did you just get a sex change?"
@tacomanmcjhonny
LOL!! Yeah they were!! Where is my mind?
How much does Palm pay you? What' s the big support for? Don' t worry, people know what to pay attention to.
Ah so this is how you got Jon Rubinstein for the live show, shamelessly plugging his wares. fo shame engadget, fo shame.
This form factor is so much better than that of the Pre, I have to say... if this comes to VZ, I will be definitely tempted to turn in my Centro, even with the presumed lack of stylus...
Liked the way that Palm design is going. Hope the 3rd and 4th models keep the trend.
Also don't forget - This phone lacks Wi-Fi
I think I'll be just fine with my Pre.
Ehh...I'd be a heck of a lot more excited if it was for say, AT&T. Or T Mobile, heck even Verizon. Giving it to Sprint is boring, if people really wanted to jump into WebOS, they have the Pre.
If you don't want Sprint, I'd bet money that by the end of January the Pre will be on other carriers. And I'd also guess that the exclusivity period won't be nearly as long for this as it was for the Pre.
@Joe H: Actually, I bet the exclusivity period is exactly as long as it was for the Pre: 6 months. Palm is going to be pushing the Pre out on other carriers at the first of the year which should give them a big enough shot of new customers that having the Pixi be a Sprint exclusive would still make sense. Sprint gets to cling to a slight competitive advantage for a little while longer by being the only place to get the "cheap" WebOS phone. Kind of a win-win.
Thanks for posting this Engadget. I thought the exact same thing after reading through all the Apple announcements today. The Palm Pixi is still the top story for me!
PALM/SPRINT - AWESOME COMBO!
thanks for the reminder....almost forgot.
i think palm's stock chart today says it all...
Apple casts a big shadow. They're just shining a light. But maybe John Rube made em do it - part of his contract for being on the show. He also requires them to poke Jobs in the eye and to grow teeny fingers so that they can type on the Pixi keyboard.
You see, this is what Palm is made of! What they should be doing! Creating Original phones. Not just trying to think of little quirks to compete with the iPhone, but creating a whole new formula. Hi Five...uh... Palm
What the hell was wrong with the Eos name? Cool phone, but shit it's got a lame ass name.
I still think palm should release a device like the pre but with a landscape keyboard that is retractable. Now THAT might be an iphone killer. Pre keyboard is useless.
Wow. Really?
This is pretty low and clearly a black eye on whatever credibility engadget actually had left.
I agree. I guess this isn't really a news site so I don't need it to be unbiased, because BOY it's biased. I really like the Palm products, but I think I'll take any of their recommendations with a grain of salt. I still love you guys.
eh I'd rather forget about it. N900 FTW
Great Post, Awesome phone. I think the Pre is still a much better in my opinion but this is cool to see WebOS growing. I wish all these people didn't hate on Engadget so much. I think they are doing a great job. WebOS is being covered because its one of the most popular and talked about products out right now. Just because some of you have a different phone doesn't mean this isn't important for the half million other people who already bought it and the millions more waiting for it to be on other carriers. NICE JOB ENGADGET THANKS FOR KEEPING US UP TO DATE ON ALLLL PRODUCTS. Apple fan boys if you don't want to read about anything but apple stuff go to appleinsider.com or macrumors.com. Both very good sites.
There used to be a time when bloggers were impartial voices, giving us the straight dope without any hint of prejudice.
Now bloggers are unofficial employees of whatever company gives them the most free shit.
A Favor for the first guest of the Engadget Show ;)
Misdirection much?
Oh snap, the Apple event didnt go so well. *Waves Pixi* Oh look at this! Look away, nothing to see over there.
Seriously though, Im not as hard as some ppl are here on Apple. You cant always win, always invent a new device each dev cycle, always innovate your products when you got boatloads of cash staring you in the face from AT&T, and the App store. And when your on top, the only direction to go is down.
I would have been alright with a iPad tablet over a Nano with a camera but a Touch without one.
I like the Palm WebOS, and the pre/pixie, though I do not know if I would call this a "significant new hardware release". I mean, its got a smaller screen (2.6), less CPU power, less memory, no WiFi. I mean, this phone better be $50 subsidy if they really want to lure new clients in. WiFi is everything these days... especially with Sprints coverage not being all that great (that is only what I know from users). This is some really nice looking phone, though. Slick.
