No camera? Really Apple?
No camera is is like Apple admitting that their cameras are nowhere near the Nokias or SE,
so they'd better keep it out...
2GS *cough*
Sounds like the reports of technical problems with iPod Touch's camera were true.
It's totally fail that apple didn't wait to release the iPod Touch 3G with a camera.
Totally fail.
The 3G actually sports an invisible camera - only visible to true Apple fans. Can't you see it?
Don't worry, after everyone buys this version, they'll immediately release a new version with a camera.
AVOID the ipod 8GB model people
If you compare the ipods here from the OFFICIAL website
http://www.apple.com/ipod/compare-ipod-models/
The 8GB is the OLD model and about the new 32GB/64GB apple says "Enjoy all the great features of the 8GB model along with better performance, richer graphics and voice control"
you also get free remote/mic with the 32/64GB versions which cost 80$ alone if you wanted to get it later on
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA850G/A
The 8GB model is a bad deal
and tell me again why you need a camera in a Touch?
Does your cell phone not have a camera? When you go out do you always take your iPod and not your cell phone? If you want a device that does the work of two devices they already make it, it's called an iPhone. Otherwise buy a better cell phone. You'll still have to carry a cell and a Touch so why does it matter which has the camera?
So I guess Hama and all case manufacturers will have a big loss..
*plop*
No Beatles? Really Apple?
Engadget has been saying "it is happening for reals, this time" for years. Can we ***finally*** put this to rest until the day it is released?
but you can still get the "flash" app! :S
Yeah - I was going to wait until this annoucement to fairly choose between the new version and the HD Zune as my new MP3/etc player in the future to replace my old 30 gig Ipod (non-touch). After this, I think it's fair to say it's time to give 'ol Microsoft the choice of my business :)
@erik1080
"Don't worry, after everyone buys this version, they'll immediately release a new version with a camera."
then 5g with an fm radio.. then 6g with gps... funny how they just seem to hit a block on Aesthetics.
It is days like this that I wish Paul Chapel wasn't banned.
I couldn't care less about a crappy camera on my ipod...but come on...why would anyone want a camera on an ipod nano and not in an ipod touch? It makes no sense, at all.
@Dr House
You don't get the $80 version of the headphones, you get the cheap headphones with a built-in mic (same ones that come with the shuffle and iPhone 3GS).
"Your out of touch, am out of time"
"It is days like this that I wish Paul Chapel wasn't banned."
It's days like this that Paul, Zak, and Quix are sitting in a dark corner rocking themselves, repeating "It's only a dream. It's only a dream."
I have the current 2G Touch. Without the camera if Microsoft does a good app store I might switch to the Zune HD. I like the price of the 16GB, that is a sweet spot for me. And it's got a super fast chip inside. All around seems like a better product. It's hard to believe.
My idea on this situation is that the ipod nano sales are falling, and that apple wants to re-invigorate them by releasing one with a camera(and now an ipod touch with a camera). If you think about it, it really makes sense...
I'm not going to lie, it was a bitch decision by apple though, but personally, I'm happy that there was nearly no changes to the ipod touch, i just received an ipod touch for my birthday a month ago, so this makes me feel like i'm not missing out(I would have been close to crying if a camera ipod touch really did come out).
I meant not, now now, my bad...
Oh my god, fail! two mistakes in a row! **I meant 'not', not 'now'.....

Wasn't everyone complaining about how the idea of a camera on the touch (and nano) was a terrible idea when we first heard the rumors a few weeks ago? No one liked the idea it seemed but now everyone is pissed off that they don't get a camera. Do you really want a camera on your mp3 player when you already have one on your phone and a stand alone camera that actually takes quality pictures? It seems like a big waste of money to have a camera on the touch and I am personally very glad Apple left it off.
Now the only question is why Apple thinks the nano needs a camera...
Why does an MP3 player need a camera? I already own good camera. Why would I want a shitty one on my iPod?
I just ordered the 3rd Gen iPod Touch 65gig and I am glad it doesn't have a camera onboard. It'd just be a feature that I'd have no interest in having.
Now that i was expecting an iPod Touch with a camera im not gonna ditch my 1G touch until a new one comes out with a camera.
this has to be the most disappointing apple event ever...
no itablet
no ipod touch with camera
no beatles music
WTF APPLE
i understand not being bothered with the lack of a camera as most people would be... but being GLAD that it doesnt have a camera, isnt that a little extreme? you know what, ill just go ahead and say that you're glad you gave up your life and money to half eaten fruit products too.
I'm sorry guys, but however hard you try, you can not look over the cold, hard, simple facts:
Google Trends: Zune HD vs iPod Touch:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=zune+hd%2C+ipod+touch
AND that's not counting everyone who says itouch
The Zune HD is without a camera. No one is complaining about that.
@DoorsnotWindows But do we really care?
We don't, but the market does, and the shares of apple do.
"It is days like this that I wish Paul Chapel wasn't banned."\
So that explained what the hell happened to him. I wish I had a chance to rebel against him :(
I think that a camera would kill the Nano. They wanted to level up the playing field. I thought about getting a touch, but now I'm really looking into Nano because camera is essential to social butterflies. Business wise, it was the best decision for them to do. Even I dont fall for that "Its a gaming machine" BS.
@Adrian
Maybe because, no one in there right mind would buy a Zune?
myeah...quite the same thing as the 2G
And if you don't waste time playing games and use it for listening and light web use, the upgrade doesn't offer you anything.
I know, Apple should have made this thing with a mic at the bottom, an earpiece at the top and allowed it to connect to any cheapo cellphone via BT and act as a phone to answer and dial phone calls like that samsung PMP...
oh wait...
silly me.
im a nub.
Yeah, I'll just stick with my 1G touch, this "new 3G" touch doesn't have enough to make me even consider buying it, my only real other option would be the iphone, but I'm not willing to pay that much just yet...
AHAHA!!
"Shootin a little video"
Unfortunately NOT with the iPod tuch
Apple nubs!!!
@pcwolff:
Same here dude, I was genuinely interested until well, the truth was revealed.
I can't believe how little apple did with the touch, I also have a 1g and I can honestly say the feature add thus far just are not compelling. The feature I'm most interested in would be the mic support for Skype and that's just too easy to get over.
Kinda sucks to cause I have a whack of cash I got on my B-Day and I'm itching to spend it, seems I might be looking at a certain Tegra equipped unit soon...
@App4That - I'm with everyone else here, this update is in a word, disappointing, but I must say I'm glad you're not heading up any R7D departments. A feature that lets you connect it to a phone to use instead of the phone you're already carrying? Haha.. uhh.. no thanks.
My eyes were glued to the spot the camera should've been on.
*cries*
look closer engadget... are you sure there's no camera... i know, this is all just a bad dream... someone please wake me up! : (
Wake up and get a life.
weak
Itouch + crappy cell phone or
smart-phone + data plan contracts...
Exactly.
I'm still rockin the Moto Q from 5 years ago in one pocket, and I got the 'Touch in the other.
Well, 2 of them are 3G.
