Video: Hanvon / Hanwang's aluminum-clad tablet does Windows 7 multitouch
You know that tablet we keep waiting for? Well, here's something that looks very much like it, but for the Windows 7 operating system and purported Atom processor inside. This 8.9-inch, two USB port-sporting device can pull off multi-touch pinching and zooming -- albeit with a lag akin to wading through water -- and is outfitted in a rather becoming all-aluminum case. It could make for a pretty desirable movie-playing machine on the go, provided it has the battery prowess for such tasks. Chinese folks will know for sure pretty soon, with the release coming before year's end -- presumably just as soon as the company figures out which westernized version of its name to use. Check out the video after the break.

"You know that tablet we keep waiting for? " No I was NOT.
"Very Responsive"
Hardly, did you see how slow those images were resiszing? That would be unbearable.
I know that was the funniest part.
Looked like it was chugging on that Multi-Touch demo pretty roughly. After all the hype for a multi-touch tablet, I have a hard time convincing myself why I would need one anyways.
An Apple tablet would only be even remotely awesome to me if it had access to the app store, perhaps a good camera (since it wouldn't be a gaming machine and all...), GPS, microphone, and internal speaker. Connection to popular wireless services would be very cool too.
If it were just a tablet that ran OSX, I could hardly care less, really.
very good
CrunchPad. Where are you ?
I dont have anything to contribute to the topic at hand, but i just wanted to say:
Hang Wang
Thats all
You could have mentioned the strange square LED lamp reflected in the display at least.
is it just me or Hanvon's logo has the lenovo font all over it?
no Aero- No windows 7
it's Windows 7 Starter so it don't have Aero
With off the shelf (off the web actually) components, a little cannibalization, and very light modding, I have assembled an uber-digiframe which is more of a so called "tablet-PC" than this.
It sports a 10" multitouch screen, wifi (full browsing with flash support), webcam(for skype or other voip),good stereo sound, support for most photo, audio and video codecs, D-TV, FM & wifi radio, BT stereo and BT mouse and k-board (if desired), light sensor, 2usb ports and SDcard reader+8Gb ssd, powered by an Atom 270 running Ubuntu or Xp sp3.
Apart for the fact that it needs to be feeded by a power outlet (or an external battery bigger and heavier that the thing itself) ; judgeing from this vid my contraption works far better than this thing.
I will have to see a price before I get excited about anything.
Also, I might be happier if it was just a USB display instead of a crippled computer with a cheap processor and no battery (and for a form factor that demands a battery it seems poorly designed) Again, better if it was just a USB display for 200$.
Still, even if it fails, it might push the market forward.
Where did it say it didn't have a battery? And how would a USB display be better or more useful that a low spec PC.
If you want a USB display, buy a usb display.
You know why they chose Oct 22, 2009 and Oct 13, 2009 for the Windows 7 launch dates?
Add 22-10-2009 and 13-12-2009, 2 + 2 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 9 = 1 + 3 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 0 +0 +9 = 16,
1 = 6 = ...
Coincidence, I think not!
Those periods of universal quantum equality will be the death of us all.
Wait...what?
Nice. I also read David Icke.
woops ... sorry ... i meant *1 + 6 = ...*
Wow.
What happens if Apple makes an Atom-based tablet?
Engadget won't know weather to piss all over it or to piss all over themselves.
Hmmm well you know the new i7 mobile chipset is out, Unlikely as it maybe =[
If it had a battery life of 4-6hours that would be awesome. I think it really would need even a 256dedicated graphics card or something and at least 3gb RAM. What if they put in one of those CULVchips?
The atom processor seems to be significantly underpowered to run the multitouch features. This had better be cheap...
they really should make anything w/multitouch functionality on a machine with a better processor and more memory and a better gfx processor
My thoughts on the 'pinch' zoom is that it's OK if it's one pinch (or counter-pinch for lack of a better word) but if you need to do it several times to zoom further it is not ergonomic any more.
So what do you think? Adopt counter-pinch as a term?
We need an x86 equivalent of Tegra. Badly.
