iriver B30 pmp finally on sale in the UK
Remember this little guy? That's right, it's the nearly forgotten iriver B30 which we caught our first glimpses of way back in May. This pmp packs DAB radio with RPG recording for listening later on, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, a microSD expansion slot, and comes in 8 and 16GB varieties with a battery that's supposed to get you 40 hours of audio and about 6 hours of video time. The B30 is listed now on DAD's site for £139 -- though we assume that's for the 8GB model, and that the 16GB will run you more.

idk what it is about it, but that looks sexy...the hand that is
Where are the controls on this thing? I'm guessing they're on the front somewhere otherwise the screen would have been made larger. Invisible or pressure type controls?
iRiver doesn't need to innovate. All they need to do is copy and make the device cheaper for the segment of users who only choose and buy products for their low cost.
they are there, just look closely, its comparable to http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/B_SamsungK3-B.jpg where I would assume it just lights up, but they are there, just flush
the MicroSD slot is a nice addition since u can cheaply add more storage. 40 hours sounds nice but i wonder if it can really last that long
... that's what she said.
iRiver have a tradition with microSD slots. They don't feed you the storage they think you need but let you choose for yourself, and cheaply. I can tell you out of experience that iRiver battery estimates are on target and not just by rough approximation, i've actually tested them out.
They have been flooding the market with very similarly priced players with no new/special features for a while now... I'm hoping they're revving up for a bigger release.
Nice to see a DAB radio in there as well.
I have always been a fan of iRiver but it seems as though they have lost their passion for innovation.
I suppose they can stay in business with these little anonymous DAPs but I miss the days of their stranger and more exciting players.
I used to love my iRiver iHP 120 but now it's all about Zune HD.
I simply cannot understand why there's still such a big market for 8GB and 16GB PMPs. I can't do it.
I actually prefer a player like this where you can connect it as an external drive, or MTP to sync with your choice of software, rather than admittedly very nice but ultra locked down and proprietary *everything* players such as the Zune or iPod.
:D
Can it play flac?
Yes.
yes, it can:
# MP4, AVI, WMV video support
# MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, FLAC, APE
# DMB TV
# 5.5 hours on DMB TV, 6 hours on video and 40 hours on music
No tactile buttons, no way. I'm not pulling the thing out of my pocket every time I want to skip tracks, etc.
Olympus M:Robe anyone?
