Acidmods moves a few buttons and a joystick on Xbox 360 controller
Hey, not all mods are outlandish and creepy. Some are just plain old... utilitarian. Acidmods got a request for a modded Xbox 360 controller that would move the X, Y, A, and B buttons and the right joystick. The fully functional finished product looks a little odd to the eyes, of course, but it's also done so well that it looks like a stock unit. As you'll see in the video after the break, the modded controller would take some getting used to for most of us, but it sure has character.

This makes me wanna get some Smash TV going.
Looks dumb.
So apparently no one could click on the picture, which leads you to the link, that clearly states its for a disabled gamer?
Seriously, RTFA.
"a few moths ago, acidmods got a request from a disabled gamer who had controller usage problems. "
Literally the first line of text explains why he modded the controller the way it is.
Good job! A little odd though :)
Blasphemy!! I like it the way it is =)
i agree, the buttons are located all the way at the bottom, WTF?! i cant reach down there in time for a weapon switch or a melee, ill be toast by then. FAIL
Needs more iPhone dock.
great job looking out for those who's got a midget thumb growing out from their palm
megan fox?
xFox 360 controller?
I still think the playstation controller is better
You're kidding right? the PS3 controller is no where as comfortable as the 360's.
wow, your first comment on Engadget and it happens to be one a troll would make.
I was playing the Uncharted2 demo yesterday and I realized how much better the triggers are on the 360. Felt like my fingers were going to slip off
I will say that playing for a long period of time on the xbox controller has my hands cramping less. It was easier to convert to also.
No way... the PlayStation controller has so many little flaws that the 360 controller already fixed:
First of all: the left analog stick is the main input on the controller... the analog stick on the DualShock should be in the place where the D-Pad is, just like the 360, Gamecube, Dremcast, Xbox controllers... then, the triggers: the 360 triggers are concave, and the DualShock triggers are convex; same with the analog sticks: the 360 ones are concave and the DualShock are convex.
The ps3 controller is only better for fighting games and this design would make the 360 controller even worst for fighting games.
My only complaint about the DualShock controller is the size. I don't have huge hands, but if the controller had a little more bulk, it'd be easier to handle.
My only complaint about the 360 controller is the location of the analog sticks. My left hand is a mirror image of my right, so why aren't the analog sticks in mirrored positions of eachother? If the 360 controller had the left analog stick and d-pad swapped, it'd almost be perfect.
Either way, N64 controller = #1.
Opinions.
I prefer the PlayStation controller still. But i'm not that fussed to say i'll stop playing my 360 because i don't like the controller, because i do like it. Just prefer the PlayStation one.
One thing i dislike on the PlayStation 3 controller, however, is the shape of the triggers - the buttons themself are fine, but they need to be shaped in a way that you're not trying so hard to grip on to them! They would be perfect if they just changed their shape, love the pressure sensitive triggers (and buttons) on the PS3 controllers.
I honestly think the only thing that the 360 controller doesn't do better than the DualShock is the D-Pad. Not the location, but just the whole thing.
The D-Pad on the 360 is a floaty, mushy, inaccurate piece of shit, where your inputs are treated only as suggestions. It feels like the whole thing is floating on a needle in the center, so when I push up, it always falls up and left or up and right.
If the D-Pad were more precise, I would vote the 360's controller as best controller ever made.
STOP FEEDING TROLLS DAMMIT!!!
It does look well done, but I really don't see why they moved the buttons all the way down there...it just seems like it would be a pain in the ass to use
The modder doesn't seem to know either. It was a job and that's what the customer wanted.
Ah I see now, I didn't bother watching that far into the video the first time around
Maybe he has a hand deformity..
and this button position makes it easier for him..
The customer might use "The Claw" grip on the controller.
Middle finger on the trigger, index on the stick, and the thumb for the buttons.
i think we all agree this would be pretty worthwhile if the buttons had gone where the stick used to be and not all the way down the grip like that.
I totally agree
This is always good to hear...... Modders working for gamers to help them play games......
i think the buttons should be more closer to the center along with the d-pad, but thats probably because i have big hands.
These modders are all incredible. Acidmods PSP laptop was quality.
Whoever made that must have been high as FUCK
hey, a little weed goes a long way in terms of patience and concentration (good music helps too), it takes a lot of work to do a mod like that, and make it look factory. Remember the modder didn't choose the button layout, it was what the customer wanted.
I've always felt that the analog sticks on the 360 controller felt more comfortable they way they were.
this mod wasnt meant to appeal the general public. it was for a physically impaired person who was uncomfortable with the original 360 controller
good to know info.
my comment wasn't bashing the design. more of a different strokes for different folks
this mod is odd to the everyday gamer, however, I built this mod for a young man who has a motion limiting disability, not sure why that did not make it into the headlines though. he is very happy with the outcome, due to his disability, he has to hold the controller in a way that will now better suit his needs.
thanks for all the support.
MM
Good work on the mod. This is nicely done, and yeah... seems odd for the rest of us, but a disability can really rearrange the way one does things.
As for forgetting to mention the details... Well, that's just Engadget's way of doing things. They tend to forget important details, seemingly in a bid to get more comments in the thread. Standard ad-supported blog behavior.
Awesome job, Matt.
"not sure why that did not make it into the headlines though."
well, engadget's reporting isn't always stellar.
nice job on the mod, though. i've always wanted to try a 360 controller with the right analog up top, and the buttons underneath.
Perhaps it is because even you seem to be unaware why it is so odd in the video? Maybe that's why.
It looks like it's suffered a minor stroke.
This is like the worst mod ever.
The buttons seem more in the way, and you have to move your thumb father going between the analog stick to the buttons.
What was the point of this? I also feel like i would hit the buttons while gripping the controller
the answer is 6 comments above u sir.
