We'll spare you the obvious cheap jokes, but grabbing hold of NTT DoCoMo's Touch Wood concepts at CEATEC was a true, honest-to-goodness pleasure. Engineered in cooperation with Sharp and Olympus, the kidney bean-esque touchscreen phone was accompanied by a TV tuning smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Both units were in the early prototype stage, with the bean shaped fellow being a mere mock-up that failed to do anything when pressed. The other guy is based around the SH-04A, and while the wood trim could've certainly encompassed more of the chassis than it did, we dig the direction DoCoMo is headed here. Have a look at Ma Earth's favorite phone (next to the Reclaim, of course) in the gallery below (and video after the break, if you're feeling extra saucy).
I love the concept, especially the kidney bean smartphone. I can see it being offered in lots of interesting types of woods, grains, finishes. I wonder if wood might be a better shock-absorbing shell than traditional plastic. Just PLEASE change the font.
No need to read. A picture is worth a 1000 words. and that picture is ugly. What is that thing, a mango, a bar of soap? Geez...go back to the drawing board.
i just get this scenario in my head every time i see the picture: going camping with the brand new wooden phone and at dawn ...when the fire is nice and warm a buddy trows the phone in it....cuz hell, it looks like wood, and the phone owner is like....noooo, my wooden phone is burning :))=))...and is actually doing a pretty damn good job =))
As Liam said, "touch wood" in the UK, means the same as "knock on wood" means in the US. I guess the UK version exists elsewhere in the English-speaking world too.

I don't want to touch your wood....
So much for skipping the obvious jokes... do people on here still read the articles by the way?
I do! Me me me!
I think that would look nice on the pixi. Make a wood skin for the pixi!
Actually no, it wont be very nice on touchstone... Itll burn.
Nope, I skim through the headlines and leave comments like the one here:
Haha, "touch wood". Get it?
*facepalm*
*cue lame beevis and butthead jokes*
They say they're going to spare the obvious jokes but then they said that grabbing a hold of DoCoMo's wood was a pleasure.
main pic looks a bit like a wooden pre.. whats the point of a wooden phone anyway, seems an odd concept.
Style.
For some reason this made me laugh, not just the touch wood name, but also the little wooden end on the antenna.
Not too sure about it to be honest, the bean shaped one does look a lot nicer though.
Was it really as pleasurable as you write?
That's the biggest Mexican jumping bean i ever did see.

'Touch wood', as in for luck.
...knock on wood? same thing? doesn't sound so gay? which isn't really a bad thing if you're gay? but is kind of disgusting if you're not?

I'm so disappointed, 15 comments so far and not ONE "that's what she said" with a headline like this one??? I'm losing faith.
That's what she said
Thanks, john.
Wood - this is so not cool...

that is one useless idea....seems like there are always more and more people who come up with ideas like that....
