Dell SX2210T adds touchscreen functionality to 1080p panel (Update: multitouch!)
You asked, questioned and implored -- why, with all these underpowered touchscreen all-in-ones prowling our lands, can we not get a decent standalone touchscreen monitor? Well, somebody somewhere listened, and somebody else, presumably elsewhere, leaked. Presenting the entirely unofficial, but all the same real, Dell SX2210T: a 1920 x 1080 21.5-inch panel that has HDMI and DVI inputs alongside an integrated 2 megapixel webcam and microphone for your Skyping convenience. If its 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms grey-to-grey response time sound familiar, it's because the non-touch sensitive SX2210 has been available for a while already. From the support documentation we're looking at, you'll need to hook up an extra USB connection for the touch interface, which doesnt appear to be multitouch, but we can always hope for a miraculous firmware update down the line, right?
Update: More info has surfaced on this monitor, which can now be purchased for $469 from Dell's online store, and will come with multtitouch panning and zooming when attached to a Windows 7 machine.

i thought this was an all-in-one at first
jesus that's huge
twss. if this isn't $5000 I might get one. idk though. I've never had good luck with Dell products.
Samsung has a 32-inch for around 2K. So Im sure this would be much cheaper since its smaller...
Plus the HP 25-Inch Touchsmart can be had for less than 2K and its an all-in-one
May your wish be granted! At $469 and a required, included 3yr warranty -- I'm in for 1!

... By the way, they're advertising it as multi-touch.. are they just trying to be clever and it just support dual-touch?
Man !! that's FUGLY !!!
Dell is no Apple
Until I read your comment, I thought so too, and that they had just forgotten to list the computer part of the specs, or they had already been done in a previous post.
Still, a nice idea, and I'd really like to see how much touch/multitouch implementation there is in W7.
This is going to be definitely pricey! Anyone got a couple thousand to spare me? :)
a couple thousand? are you kidding me... full touch screen all-in-one computers are widely available for much at all... adding a touch screen wont add more than a couple hundred dollars to the base "non-touch" monitors already reasonable $279 price.
check newegg's touchscreen monitor prices. the cheapest one they have is a square 17" for $260. if this is under $500 i will be very surprised. im guessing closer to $1000
As James said above, it's $469 w/3 year warranty (included)

Can't wait to use this with Windows 7!
No one is allowed to touch my hotdog.
I'd be all up for it if it can also do 120hz so I see what it'd be like to touch and see things with the nvidia 3d glasses.
Capacitive or Resistive? I'm guess cap, since resistive on desktop monitor would be terrible unless it was crazy sensitive.
Yea, it's definitely capacitive. Only the portables or convertibles would have resistive.
Can you imagine if you had a pen, sketching on this desktop? Lol!
Optical touch - Amazing what can happen if one decides to read versus quickly making a comment.
Because there are consumer products of this size with "cap" touchscreens. I'm guess RES.
kjb is right, it's optical.
It supports finger or any pointing device. My bad.
@kjb434: I'm assuming you mean reading the read link since it doesn't mention what kind of touchscreen this is anywhere in this article?
No wonder your 1080i LCD screen is so smudgy.
make it 24'' and maybe up the contrast ratio a little and you have a buyer
Make that two!
I can't wait to have dirty fingerprints on my monitor, too.
I always wanted to finger my monitor, here's my chance!!
That's bestiality and I'm calling the RSPCA.
Brail screens FTW! wait, no bumps?
If you want 24 inch, then just get the Sony, patch in your signal through HDMI and ignore the built-in system... $1300 last I heard.

Then it would just be a regular display there is not way to export multi-touch capabilities.
Specs sheet says "Windows 7 Complaint" (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/MONITORS/SX2210T/en/ug/about.htm#plug_and_play_capability scroll down to "Touch Screen Specifications"), if that means "Passed Windows 7 Touch Logo testing" should mean multitouch right?
Haha, I'm so sleep deprived right now I spelled "Compliant" wrong. My apologies internet.

seems to indicate that it is in fact multi-touch if you have windows 7
On the dell site description sez: Dell SX2210T 21.5 Inch Multi-Touch Full HD Monitor With Webcam
That isn't a very good res. You can't fit any more than a 30 inch version.
Thanks Dell. You've just given my colleagues more incentive to smear their fingers all over my screen whilst pointing and poking at things. Love you too...
On a less satirical note, what practical application does this actually have? On a mobile phone I understand the merit, as a snazzy media interface I understand the convenience. For the purposes of day to day computing it is surely nothing more than novelty tinged with occasional impracticality.
Good news is you don't have to buy it. If you read the comments, there are many people that would want this. Is it practical? Maybe, maybe not. But people want it, so therefore people will make it.
Yup coz 2560 * 1600 is the industry standard right now......
go to dell.com,, typ sx2210t into the keyword search, and click on the recommended result. it brings up the purchasable sx2210t for $469
I this falls to $300 in six months,im getting it.
i've had one of these beauties running on win 7 for 3 months now testing, yes the sx2210t does support multitouch in windows 7, no it doesn't require drives for touch out of the box. it does need drivers for the webcam though :(, and is capacitive in design.
Meh, no thanks. Your arms get tired from being extended out and up all day. Besides I don't need your H1N1 on my screen.
No wonder Windows 7 has an updated MS Paint, there is a hidden "Finger Paint" mode for when you have a multi-touch screen.
21 inches for $469 and 1080p come on. Anything under 24" shouldn't even attempt 1080p give me a break. Entirely too small but I guess the kiddos need screens too lol. When they cone out with a led backlit 2560 x 1600 120htz 30 incher for under $1200 then I'll get one.
I am going to pick up a multi-touch monitor this year and it is going to be mounted right next to my bed to control my bedroom HTPC. .. this is going to be frick'n sweet!
Now, we just need some more models and reviews rolling in.
Will this support OSX?
well.. you can use it as a monitor. but since apple doesn't support touch screen devices at all or encourage third party devices/drivers; i wouldn't bet on it. even when they do add touch support. i'd bet alot of money that this wouldn't be compatible
