QiGi's Smartbook is more like a WinMo 6.5-powered MID
We're going on the assumption here that the lads and ladies over at QiGi haven't actually heard that "smartbooks" have a vaguely defined look and feel, as the outfit's latest handheld definitely looks nothing like the smartbooks that we've seen emerge over the past few months. In fact, the Windows Mobile 6.5-equipped device looks more like a MID than anything else, boasting a 5-inch 800 x 480 display, only a few face-mounted buttons and 1GB of memory. Hit the read link if you're interested in a poorly translated review, and good luck finding one of these in the open market (at least with an English-language operating system).

too bad, why WM ?
5 inches, this is crazy.
i cant carry this in my pocket
@JAG fold it
@JAG
Yes you can .. it's five inches diagonally. It would be about one third wider than an iPhone .. so it can fit in your pocket.
@DarkElfa
I'm pretty sure you need to get that looked at if it's been more than 4 hours.
What is the best OS for touchscreen and voice commands ??
I want to mount a 4 - 7 inch device right onto my handle bars. Atleast until the eye wear type tech comes out.
Im at a point where I can charge my phone, and batteries at the same time as riding around...

@kris120890
Not for nothing here kris321 - most people who afford a minute to reply have a better outlook then you have
Actually WM 6.1. The article says that, as does the fact that the start menu flag is coloured and not white.
screw the buttons and flush mount the touchscreen, place the earpiece on the top side and the mic on the bottom side of the phone and you might have something....
pretty cool...
No mention that its running SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 over WinMo? SPB is the best execution of WinMo IMO. They're supposed to making a shell for Android too, but they wouldn't disclose timeliness or details to me. Just that they were working on it.
Thats about the size of the first Pocket PC Mobile Edition years ago. Felt like a brick in my pocket.
@WhatGeeksDotCom
You had a 5 inch pocket pc? This would be thinner though, so I doubt it'll feel like a brick.
The main prob i see with this device is the bezel. I hate huge bezels. Second thing I would change it I would make the screen longer (increase the aspect ratio to 16:9 or even movie screen)
@JS I'd say it's pretty close to 16:9...
800x2 = 16
480x2 = 9.6
You'd only see minimal black bars at the top and bottom of a 16:9 video, and the manufacturer both lowers cost of manufacture and removes the headache of a non-standard screen resolution in either the core OS or 3rd party apps.
What is the obsession with putting glossy screens on devices that will, among other well-lit enviorns, doubtless see regular use in direct sunlight? Are engineers just trying to screw with us? Are they laughing it up back in the lab?
it looks like a big phone.
Ohh!Its U1000!In China,RMB2248=$321.
