T-Mobile bringing HTC HD2 to the States? All .nbh files point to 'yes'
You know those times when you're sifting through an undercooked ROM, dumping .nbh files right and left, asking yourself: "is this even worth it?" Well, the folks at WMExperts can answer with a resounding fist pump after digging up references to T-Mobile US in an HTC HD2 prerelease ROM that was recently leaked their way. At this point we're looking at a new 2.01 version of the HD2 software in the T-Mobile version, a big jump from the 1.61 seen in previous leaks, which maybe will smooth over some of those performance woes we experienced with the device. WMExperts also claims a March 2010 release date, which seems a while to wait, but somebody told us once about "good things" coming to "waiters" or something like that, so we're cautiously optimistic.

Finally!
T-Mo sure is getting some nice phones :)
HD2, Xperia X10, Nexus One, Nokia N900
@nox327
Yeah; I dont know which one to go for. DAM!
HD2 or xperia 10
@nox327 I don't think the N900 is coming to T-Mobile. :S
Anyways when you do the math it is cheaper to get the phone without a contract and buy it fully than going contract to get the discount.
For example Touch Pro 2
Contract: $350 (Phone) + $70 * 24 (500 min (40) and Web (30)) = $2030
Sans contract: $540 (Phone) + $55 * 24 ( Even more Plus 500 min, $30, web add-on $25) = $1860
You save around $220 for the same service and you have the benefit of not being in a contract. Let say you have money issues on your second year and you need to limit yourself as much as you can, you can do it. You go to the store with a dumphone and downgrade to only voice $30 (no ETF!)... then things get better after 6 months, you get a job back or whatever the case is... you go back to the store with the Touch Pro 2 and get the web add-on again. The beauty of sim cards is that you can pop the voice only sim on your TP2 and just go with voice and surf on WiFi. (they will even finance the phone for you, but then you get a credit check)
Ummm can I get a HELL YES?!
VERY Good News!!!
Now there's only ONE piece left in the T-Mobile USA 1st Quarter 2010 "Phones you Crave" Trifecta, the Xperia X10.
It's going to be an EXCELLENT year for T-Mobile USA, I cannot wait.
21mbps to top it all off
@SParklingCYaNide Oh I take that back the X10 already passed FCC with AWS bands. NICE T-Mobile, NICE!
@SParklingCYaNide http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-catches-fcc-on-a-good-day/
@SParklingCYaNide
"21mbps to top it all off"
That's my biggest concern actually. Spending $800 on an hd2 that won't work on HSPA+ next year.
@SParklingCYaNide
HELL YES!!
@SParklingCYaNide I don't get why people say t-Mobile has no 3G in important places. My basic Sony Ericson Feature phone(Touch Pro got stolen) has 3G. I live near DC and get 3G all across VA. I went to NYC today and 3G along the whole trip, and on top of that, its the fastest and cheapest data. So with the HD2 + T-Mobile = AWESOME phone(WinMo FTW! It does fucking EVERYTHING, anything you want to do, there's a .cab for that!) on cheapest network with fastest data!
I hope this does happen for the sake of all you WinMo haters in the US. I haven't had any of the slowdown problems mentioned in the Engadget review, and HTC Sense makes it a joy to use in my opinion.
@SarnGate
How easy is it to turn off Sense? I actually prefer WinMo 6.5, but I need HTC's keyboard as MS's is unusable.
@jon Super easy, you just go into the WinMo settings and disable it. There's some pretty nifty WinMo 7 skins out and about too if you want something other than Sense : )
@SarnGate
I know it's that simple with Touchflo 3d on the Pure, but I got the impression from engadget's review that Sense was wound a little tighter into WinMo and was harder to de-select.
Good to hear that it's not.
Thanks for the info.
@SarnGate
As far as skins go, I'm happy with WinMo 6.5 default, the home screen customizer from Marketplace and HDWalls for full screen wallpapers.
But I might have to look around.
@jon
Engadgets WinMo hating propaganda, that's all.
March? By the time that comes around, HTC will be releasing something entirely new and cool across Europe, to which, I'll say "Why should I buy the crap on the US market right now, when the faster, better phone-x is just around the corner." And this vicious cycle keeps repeating.
@GeekPI Well then you'd NEVER buy a new phone lol
That's pretty silly
@GeekPI We European have been waiting forever for the Milestone and the Pre(both not released yet in Belgium), so I'd stop complaining, 'cause tbh I think you Americans have things way better in terms of phones
@SParklingCYaNide Exactly, and there isn't really anything in HTC's upcoming line-up which will compete with this. The Bravo is the same specs but it doesn't look anywhere near as slick or impressive, i actually thought it looked a little childlike.
@Exbloder LOL, what are you smoking and where can I get some? Europe has the deal faaaar sweeter than any. HTC, NOKIA, even SE, those phones hit your market asap. Yes we may have had the Pre and Iphone, but those two have been easily trumped
@F4WMR
Man, he's in Belgium, we know what he's smoking. But you do have to go to the Netherlands to get some, or grow it yourself.
Sucks for Sprint....with the Pre going to Verizon Sprint needs an "IT" phone to kickstart 2010.
I was hoping this would be it. Although perhaps it might be better if Sprint gets the ever rumored Android version of this phone.
I just want a sick ass phone on Sprint so my brothers can have something akin to my iPhone to enjoy their unlimited data on their Sprint plans.
@TheCodexAlera It's unfortunate the HD2 won't be coming to Sprint. I would have paid full retail to have that phone over my TP2.
@TheCodexAlera
Just because Sprint isn't leaking what they're doing in 2010 doesn't mean awesome plans aren't in the works.
Just wait...
I've been waiting for the HD2 so I can pen the paper despite the reviews. I'll wait.
I wonder if you can hack the HD2 to run Android? I would be all over that.
@IO Oh god I WISH you could also, Man!
@IO
What would be the benefit of that?
@(Unverified) 4.3" screen + snapdragon running a superior OS are the benefits.
@IO Nexus one is supposedly a 3.7" with Snapdragon. That's not bad.
@IO
A lot of the HTC WinMo phones can run Android. I'm running it right now on 2 different devices. And while Android is nice and has made great improvements, I still boot up and use WinMo 95% of the time.
@bjsguess
Do you know if the HD2 in particular can run Android?
What a line-up!
HD2
Nexus
Xperia X10
Tmobile got its grove back!
@newjaruz
groove* lol
Why is it that only T-mobile is getting these nice phones? Nexus and now HD2, what about Sprint?
great, now all they have to do is improve their signal strength
@arubalou My Signal Strength is always Great, what PoDunk town do YOU live in?
@SParklingCYaNide
i live in the culturally inhibited area of north new jersey. while t mobile has snappy phones and great rates there is nobody here who really gets a really great signal.
t mobile never advertizes themselves that way anyways....they are more of the "look at us we're fun cell phone company".
what podunk area do you infest?
@arubalou Mine is Fantastic and I live in a Big city
@arubalou I visit Miami often, which is a Big City with many business people visiting from all over the world, and T-Mobile coverage is pretty bad inside buildings (dropping to Emergency calls only). The 3G signal is very spotty, you will get 3G in one spot, then walk 2 feet and go to three bars of EDGE. :S
@TikiTeko
i am not suprised, at work we compare signal strengths and out of all the major carriers t mobil is the absolute weakest. even outside in alot of areas the signal fades in and out. my contract expires in march 2010 and i will be going with verizon.
Gotta renew my contract with t-mob on Feb 1st, probably will wait till March to do it and get in on some discounts with this phone.
Well this news sucks for us sprint people....
Made my day. Thankful it's not on AT&T. I wouldn't be happy. Now I just have to see where the Bravo is going. If T-Mobile, I am going to have a tough decision coming my way.
Well at least I'll have satisfaction in knowing that I made the right decision in not waiting for this to come to the US. T-Mobile has the worst 3G coverage of all wireless carriers. Had this come out on Verizon I'd be hating my Droid right about now.
@insky Jealous much? BWahahahaaa
Loser
@insky
Well that really depends where on where you live. If you don't have the fortune of living in the suburbs then yeah it really sucks to be you and verizon is yourbest choice but for us in LA we are rolling perfectly fine with t-mos3G
Great, just in time for my T-Mobile contract to expire. Years ago T-Mobile had the crappiest phones among the major providers, now they have most of the newest stuff.
Sweeeeet... It's about time! I had my fingers crossed the last few months hoping Tmobile would carry the HTC HD2. Lotta new phones handled by Tmobile this year. A rep pointed out close to 30 within the year.
Nice!
