Toshiba busts out the Mini NB250 netbook, drops price on NB305

Toshiba's just not stopping with the laptops this week, and has now outed the 10.1-inch Mini NB250 netbook, while also refreshing the Mini NB305 with an Intel Atom N455 processor. The new Mini NB250 boasts a typical 1,024 x 600 resolution backlit LED, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 CPU, integrated GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It's also packing three USB ports, a multicard reader and a webcam, plus 802.11 b/g/n wireless, Ethernet and Bluetooth. It comes with a three-cell battery standard, but there's an optional six-cell which will purportedly get you around eight and a half hours of life. The NB250 doesn't have a nicely coated chiclet keyboard like the Mini NB305, but for $299 we won't complain. Truthfully, the NB305 continues to be our fave netbook, especially now that Tosh has dropped the price down to $379. We've got some hands-on shots below and the full press release after the break. %Gallery-95565%

New entrant in the netbook class – the Toshiba mini NB250
Toshiba adds the new 10.1'' ultra-portable and light mini NB250 to its netbook range; and updates its mini NB305

06.16.2010 – Neuss, Germany – Toshiba Computer Systems, a division of Toshiba Europe GmbH, today introduced a new model to its netbook range: the Toshiba mini NB250. The 25.7cm (10.1'') mini NB250 is designed to be as easy on the budget as it is to carry and to use. It offers all the essentials users need for basic computing around the house or out and about. The mini NB250 will be available during summer 2010 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. Toshiba also announces the refresh of its highly regarded mini NB305, that now will also feature the latest Intel® Atom processor.

The black mini NB250 is enhanced with an engraved pattern on the palmrest, and features Intel's latest Atom CPU. It comes with a screen size of 25.7cm (10.1''), a size of 263mm x 192mm, a thickness of only 25.4mm at the front, and a light weight of 1.3 kg. These features make the mini NB250 a great travel-friendly computing device for users who require basic computing applications and mainly use their netbook as a secondary portable device. The battery life of the 6 cell battery is up to 8.5 hours and allows users to go through a long day without need to recharge their netbook.

The mini NB250's small size doesn't compromise its usability: the netbook has a full-size keyboard and a large touchpad to comfortably type text and navigate through menus and pages. The mini NB250 also comes equipped with an application suite exclusive to Toshiba labtops, Toshiba Life Space* featuring the project organisation tool Bulletin Board and the graphical document search and indexing application ReelTime.

Update for mini NB305
Toshiba has also updated its well established mini NB305 netbook. The 25.7cm (10.1'') model will also now feature the latest Intel Atom N455 CPU. The mini NB305 has a unique and attractive Mocha Brown or Snow White 3D textured cover design with a matt finish that is both visually and physically appealing. The mini NB305 runs for up to 11 hours with a single charge of the 6 cell high capacity battery and offers high-end features such as a 3D impact sensor to protect data stored on the HDD.

Sustainable and eco-friendly
As a responsible global corporate citizen, Toshiba ensures that all laptops are fully compliant with European WEEE and RoHS directives, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury and certain other hazardous substances. The new mini NB250 and the mini NB305 are ENERGY STAR® 5.0 qualified.
