Choose My Adventure: Apseth, the Raki disciple
Last week's votes have been tallied, and this week we've got a shiny new Vanguard edition of Choose My Adventure to start! With 12.5% of the overall votes, Raki managed to take the lead as our character's race. With that said, while 110 votes were cast for blood mage, that is not a viable class option for a Raki. Thankfully, the second place winner at 86 votes, disciple, is something a Raki can be, so that's our winner! So, without further delay, allow me to introduce you to Apseth Navarre, Raki disciple -- my shiny new Vanguard character that you'll get to help direct (and even play along with, if you'd like) through this series of Choose My Adventure posts.

To prepare for this week, I did a bit of reading up on the Raki race. Oddly enough, I didn't find any major official lore regarding their prior world, only that it was destroyed by creatures known as the Ulvari. The Raki escaped to Telon by using a magical portal, Nik'tarin, and once there, were taken in by the Wood Elves. With the elves' help, they settled in an island chain named Kojan and created their new home, Ca'ial Brael, there. Highly agile and crafty, the Raki offer a series of fairly nice starting and racial bonuses:
Planar Shift: gives a 50% mitigation to spell damage for 60 seconds (30-minute cooldown)
Animal Reflexes: gives a 10% bonus to run speed (always useful)
Crafting bonus: +10 to Reasoning
Harvesting bonus: +5 to Reaping
From levels 10 and up: +1 DEX, +2 VIT, +1 INT, and +10 customization points at each level
Disciples seem to be an interesting hybrid mix of front-line and support, offering a good combination of abilities useful both in groups and soloing. The description from within Vanguard reads: Disciples are gifted healers as well as potent martial combatants and are able to blend the two seamlessly. They are master manipulators of the internal force known as Jin. Using Jin they are able to perform supernatural feats that can harm their opponents or bolster their allies. Disciples are also excellent at avoiding damage and quickly counter attacking those who are foolish enough to assault them. They wear medium armor and prefer martial style weapons, including martial swords, staves and hand to hand weapons. Since I am prone to playing rogues, monks, and druids as a general rule, this class sounds like it's going to be right up my alley.
I opted to start in the Isle of Dawn for two reasons. First, this is the newest starting area, added to the game in 2008 to help ease players into the game by laying out the various systems within Vanguard for the complete Vanguard noob. (Which I am.) Secondly, the idea was that if any other players are interested in adventuring along with me during this round of Choose My Adventure, a centralized starting area would make it much easier to do so. With that said, I am planning to at least peek in on the traditional Raki racial starting area by creating an unnamed alt, as I did last time.
Since I'm not entirely certain what this next week will hold, there isn't a formalized vote this time around. However, I am definitely looking for suggestions and tips! Also, to spice it up a bit, I'm setting specific times to play this time around, for those who also want to try the game out and would like some adventuring companions. The current schedule is:
Sunday evenings from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. EDT
Monday afternoon from approximately 12 p.m. (noon) to 4 p.m. EDT
Those two weekly sessions will also be broadcast live on our Livestream channel, so the camera-shy need not apply. Outside of those times, I'll be messing around on my own -- although you're welcome to friend my KrystalleCMA account on Xfire to see if you can catch me at other times.
For now, a new adventure awaits, and I'd best get a move on if my shiny new Raki disciple is going to learn how to handle herself in the world of Telon!
