Meizu's M8 UI promo video is surprisingly professional, catchy
Oh, Meizu, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. The KIRF-rooted company has released a promo touting the UI for its M8 phone. If any of it seems familiar, just remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Honestly, we're a bit surprised just how professional the video feels, and the tune's pretty memorable to boot. Get it caught in your head all day, footage is after the break.

Im totally buying this if that hip happing beat comes pre-loaded on it.
@KRISC123
While the Meizu tune is catchy, this one is catchier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoRD1wmvwUc&feature=related
Wow! This video makes it look promising!
Nice video, but especially a nice touch at the part where all the app icons are flying into the screen. Think i spotted a Garageband icon there :)
@ht56y:
I spy iSync, Bonjour, Interface Builder, a Gameboy Advance, Spore, GarageBand, Photo Booth, and MSN Messenger.
@ernie
i checked, saw that you were rite, then lol'd
@ht56y if you look close enough you can also find the automator icon as well. This is sad! Yes the iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the world, and yes it has a great design and interface, but does anyone seriously think they are gonna bank of the success?
To my last comment: You can see it at around 2:15
Oh iClones, will you ever learn?
@Tes
LOL, That is exactly what I thought!
iPhone...check, Palm...check, Android...check, WinMo...check!
""Meizu, calling now, here's my number you can call me....."""
This is just... o.0 ?! Anyone already humming "Meizu calling now" ? And WTF they didn't copy coverflow. Shame on you.
MyMobile > MobileMe
@MoonWalkerCTE
I think that is what their layer of ui is call.
It is not weird that Meizu manufacturer could afford hiring some professional video makers, Meizu is an expensive phone by Chineese standards after all.
If this commercial is aired in US - now THAT will be weird!
I thought the frame rate of the video itself seemed kinda low (anyone else feel that?) .. anyway .. Umm if the phone works as advertised .. that's not bad. Apple too built on the innovation of others (multitouch, zoomable UI concept etc. existed before). And use of accelerometers to switch from portrait to landscape .. come on that was blatantly ripped from myOrigo (i hope they paid 'em).
@JS
It's your computer.
Anything under 60 fps is low..
Good stuff. If it all runs quick enough then its a good buy.
@Bazanime
it's fast,but not fast enough
It's better than the iPhone.
There was, in the 17th or 18th century, a Japanese sword maker who started out making copies, forgeris if you will, of the swords of famous sword makers from decades prior. eventually, his skills improved and he emerged from being a katana KIRF maker to producing swords which were desired in their own right.
Yesterday's KIRF is tomorrow's mainstream product.
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi
Is.... that... a proverb?
Arghhh my internet gland!
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi
i kinda like it actually!
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi that's the exact story of modern Japan and South Korea (Walkman, Karaoke, PMPs, etc) . I hope China follows suit soon. This shameless imitation is becoming quite tiresome for such a formidable commercial powerhouse nation...
Wannabe iPhone...
Won't even make a nick in the market.
And oh for the android fanboys heres a bit of TRUTH for you guys...

@TheRogueFFAngel
Oh now I see where i've been going wrong in life, I just need to follow one persons opinion and have no personal preference. I thank you sir for making my life so much easier from now on :)
@TheRogueFFAngel
I hope you Android folks see this fanboy drivel as a warning of, even though for the past few months these gadget blogs have "tolerated" Android's rapid rise in popularity, they are ready to take you folks down in a heartbeat if they see you as threatening their pet handheld.
Dont think for a minute that the sudden barrage of negative articles on Android was just some coincidence. You are getting the same treatment they gave Palm BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Symbian get. You guys are just a faster moving target, so this nonsense from BGR and others is only the start. And it was the plan ALL ALONG.
I know people that work for tech news type organizations. Truuuust me. This is only the start.
When they saw you as potentially taking out iPhone competitors, then they saw you as heroes. Now that you think you can "be as good as" Apple's phone, well now you need to be brought down a notch.
@TheRogueFFAngel
LMAO here come the conspiracy theorists...
God you guys are pathetic. I don't care nor need you to like the iPhone. There are plenty of people who love the iPhone (me included).
Why does the iPhone have the highest customer satisfaction rating?
And regardless of whether you want to believe or not that article is correct.
People feel emotionally attached to iPhones, Blackberries, and even phones like the Sidekick.
The ONLY other phone out there that has the potential to be like a BB or an iPhone is the Palm Pre and Palm is doing a great job with that phone. Especially with the slick interface that webOS has.
Android is nothing but a bunch of HYPE. It still comes across as the slowest internet device and pretty much a cold slab of technology.
People will fight and die for their iPhones and Blackberries. Yes their phones are a part of their lives...too bad the same can't be said about android.
And no Android phone to date has outsold the iPhone. Not even close.
And with iPhone 4G right around the corner be prepared for another year of the media and the public at large not giving a shit about android.
@TheRogueFFAngel
"People will fight and die for their iPhones"
..Really!?
@TheRogueFFAngel
"And no Android phone to date has outsold the iPhone. Not even close."
No version of OSX/Mac has ever outsold Windows PCs... Not even close.
I guess you will agree then that its time to yank those products off the market?
I'll get my popcorn while we wait for you to concoct a spin that doesnt make you sound even more dumb.
@wingedLegionary
Only people without a significant other, bed next to their mom's washing machine, and 14-year-olds.
@wingedLegionary:
Unfortunately yes.
Even more unfortunate... I'm one of them. Can't live a day without it.
@ LAY
We're talking about phones here!
Not OSs
2nd I have Windows 7 and I love every bit of it. Not a fan of OSX at all...
@LAY
LOL. You know people who work for "tech news type organizations"? Awesome.
@pukerocket
It's a fascinating conduit into the culture that exists there.
@LAY
Still living in la la land of Apple and the big conspiracy against you and Microsoft. You need to seek help.
@TheRogueFFAngel
The iphone is the OS. same form factor with blackberry OS isn't the iphone, is it?
And Iphone os is OSX.
You cannot seperate a smartphone from it's operating system. Thus the original counterargument still stands.
@TheRogueFFAngel
Well, you fought valiantly, and without reason, and you got DOWNRANKED!!!!
Professional. Up until the point it's battery explodes at the 1:50 mark.
@roman1290 Haha exactly. I don't think having your product explode is good advertising.
@roman1290
its an explosion of awesome........ resulting in third degree burns. So the phone has the danger factor too. just adds to the fun. niceee ;)
@Tes
Yeah, can the Chinese be original?...
@000000
No offense to chinese...
OK I'll shut up now.
I'd buy one... Meizu makes highquality items. Would these be coming to us through Dane-Elec?
@bob e Are highquality items a rip off of high quality items?
@Oli D They are high quality ripoffs. Look at the Meizu M7 or it other mp3 players - quite excellent back in the day, 2006 or so.
when all the apps were flying in, i *THINK* i saw an audim and an garageband logo fly in.....
Very slick. I'd almost bet that the ad agency that created that spot is not from China.
@sharkync Not the typical stock imagery, instrumental music and booming voice combination eh? It's not too hard for Chinese companies to hire Hong Kong, Taiwanese or American firms and there's gotta be one or two good Chinese advertising companies out there.
