Is this the Motorola MOTOSPLIT?

Update: Yes, we know it's a render, sheesh. We have a bit of a history with Motorola and renders, you know.

wtf?
@PENISCRUSHER My thoughts exactly.
@PENISCRUSHER
MOTOGAGA
@PENISCRUSHER (First, your screen name made me laugh) I was thinking the same thing. That is the ugliest form factor since the MOTO CRAZR.
@FauxNews Hey bro, I think you mean "KRZR".
This definitely goes against Google's idea of optimizing android for one handed use, and I wonder how you handle this thing, looks like a doozy!
@PENISCRUSHER
moto always has some crazy design kicking around . . . Im a fan!
@FauxNews Its KRZR, which is still one of the most beutiful phones ever brought to market.
NOKIA seem to have the same phone
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_6820-pictures-565.php
released on 2003
@Nokia N900
oh here is E70
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e70-pictures-1323.php
@Nokia N900 Damn I remember wanting the 6820, US Version with EDGE which was OH SO SPEEDY at the time.
@PENISCRUSHER
Nilay seems to be refraining from saying "...kay?" ...this should be breaking news!
@PENISCRUSHER
Boomerang and phone all-in-one
@Nokia N900
I think the Nokia version was more elegant for it time, but this is just a render, I totally wanted the 6820, I'll wait to see what this looks like IRL.
@camroncake
This could so totally be a BataRang replacement. He'd be on a call and *shick* where'd that keyboard come from? *Fwomp* He nails some henchman in the back of the head!
Seriously, I'll be glad when we can see what HTC is bringing to AT&T in the way of Android sets. Something practical*cough* Nexus One*cough*
@yyandrew
Yet it is not. It will not.
Interesting concept. Poor render design. I'm sure they worked really hard on this, really. Sorry it came out so poor.
@PENISCRUSHER
ABORT! ABORT!
@PENISCRUSHER
That keyboard certainly won't be good for typing while in portrait mode.
Another Motorola head-scratcher device.
@PENISCRUSHER
It doubles over as a Ninja Weapon.
@PENISCRUSHER "and this would be a nice higher-end compliment to the Backflip" well backflip is also nice. Details: : http://bit.ly/moto-backlip-details-best-worst
looks very interesting
@bolezhinkov I agree... I like it when companies think OUTSIDE the box. With this AND the backflip, it seems Motorola is WAY outside the box.(I like overemphasizing words.hehe.)
wow, talk about extremely split keyboards....not very nice
@jerm
actually, works very well. part of the reason I've held onto my e70 for so long is because I've not yet found a more comfortable keyboard.
it may not be for the highest end of the mobile messaging user spectrum, but I wouldn't think those people would have any sliding/folding/flipping device.
Lol that's actually pretty sweet. I can imagine all the kids stealing their dads' and moms' MOTOSPLITs and going *zing* *zing* *bang* *bang* with their 'split'saber fights...
@onlymyrailgun More like, Pew Pew Pew!
sorry my friend, thats ugly.
Looks horrible like its just going to be far to long stretched out like that. It worked on that old nokia but was not as long
Ugly and it looks like a pain to use.
Cool! I don't know that I would buy one, certainly, but I like seeing companies trying different designs for handset bodies rather than the same forms.
@YourBrains
From an ergonomic point of view, those are probably the best placements for keyboards. I haven't used a PSP Go yet, but I think having buttons on the bottom can make a device difficult to balance... like with the home button on my iPhone when I use it with just one hand.
@YourBrains I'm glad that this isn't another iPhone form factor and that people are experiment, but it's really just a revival of a concept tried by Nokia. What advantages are there really over the Droid form factor other than novelty, at any rate?
@onlymyrailgun Perhaps the layout is excellent, but I would guess it would demand more body rigidity?
@YpoCaramel
This seems like it's way thinner than the Droid - but you're right, if they can make this in that thin of a case, they can probably make the regular horizontal slider in that thin of a case. I'd be interested in seeing how quickly I can type on this versus my iPhone or my old BB Curve.
@YpoCaramel One advantage i can think of off the top of my head is the ability to slide only one of the halves out and use it as a number pad/SureType style keypad. I would hope they would release it with the ability to do so, else this design would be little more than a new quirky keyboard mechanism(which judging by the Backflip, Moto isn't exactly adverse to). The best case scenario would be an e-ink keyboard display(like that of the Alias 2) that would allow for single slide-out use as a numpad, 20 key setup, media control, etc. as well as dual slider use as a qwerty keypad, game pad, etc.
@mbadawy
thats actually a really good idea. i really believe that companies should start using e-ink in more devices, and here would be a perfect example of where to use it. the half-slide numeric pad. and media and shortcut buttons. smartphones really need to hop in this technology.
think they took it too far. It does not seem like it would be easier to use the key board. I would probably use the virtual one. I doubt this is actually a production phone at any point.
Which 3 do we know?
There was 1 Motorola = Backflip
1 Dell = Dell Mini 3
3 HTC = ?, ?, ?
What did I miss? And if this Moto is real it's not part of the first 5 AT&T announced.
....interesting hue in that blur photo; was the camera on some 2C-I or something?
Complete and utter 'Shop
@Addyct
also, the keyboard would be upside-down from what every other android phone with a keyboard uses. totally fake. Cool fake, but fake.
Very interesting design. I don't know if I'd like one of these until I try it, but I can see how it could be nice after getting used to it.
Motorola's on a roll!
@Shadow08
People think this sucks and they haven't used it yet!
Yeah other things have a similar keyboard but who's to say this isn't good?
You can still have a virtual keyboard and for long things pull out the split keyboard and you have a comfortable keyboard two handed.
Physical keyboards were two handed anyways I think.
Hey Moto, remember when we asked you to be more creative? We take it back.
@DangerRabbit this isn't really more creative. Nokia did it way back.
I LOVED my 6820. My favorite phone ever. Beats my iPhone 3G, and my newly acquired Nexus One.
this would be perfect for gaming....but that's about it
@newone757
Possibly murder weapon...you know, glue on some blades.
I wish it wasn't as cool as it looks like, so that I could call it MOTOSHIT.
@Cence Don't you mean MOTO####?
@mikethebigo
The #### HD is not available in my country. :(
DROIDZR
