Those glowing balls would reflect in my TV screen.
I don't want glowing balls on my TV screen.
@Meekermoloko yeah. you know those one crapgadgets that get released before something really "big" and "useful" get released that are just an embarassment once the "big and useful" item gets released...
well this play station move thing is the embarassing crapgadget.
@emopoops
and whats the "really "'big' and 'useful' thing?"
I am not impressed by the PlayStation Move:
- Not crazy about that ping-pong ball
- Don't like that on some games you need two "Move" controllers and on others you need the Move and the "sub-controller"
- Don't like the initial cost to get into the "Move" experience
@Meekermoloko Buy a Super OLED TV!
£47 pound for a add-on that makes my ps3 into a wii
wii must of done something right to sell all those consoles so for £47 I think I'll at least try this since what Sony are saying
"We'd like to think of this as the next generation of motion gaming,"
@Meekermoloko
Not so certain the actual brightness will cause an issue with the screen. First of all, most LCD's have that kinda "matt" surface and do pretty good with the anti-glare situation.
My biggest concern is this: My 65" wall mount if on hung on main viewing wall. All the electronics are placed in a audio rack aprox 15' to the right of the screen. [on an opposing wall, recessed] I'm thinking, in order to even use the new "Move" stuff.....i've gotta get the camera some how mounted above the Panel. Cable lengths obviously gonna be an issue. And if there's any kinda "Wii'ish" sensor bar.....then I got more issues with even more cables. If this "kit" comes in a wireless version, i'm good. I can't possibly be the only person who's installed a LCD singulary on a wall without having all the componets placed directly below the screen.
@Meekermoloko:
I don't want glowing balls either. Plus this thing looks damn complicated to use, look at all those buttons on each piece. The reason the Wii took off was it's simplicity and freshness...this is a copycat wanna be that has wayy too many buttons.
@Jordan You do know the Wiimote has MORE buttons, right?
@Andir:
There's two parts to this controller, only half is shown here. There is a second part for the other hand that would be considered the "nunchuck". It has an insane amount of buttons. The two combined, which will be needed as has been proven via the Wii, have way too many buttons and look extremely complicated.
Why the ugly colored balls??? I would even be happier it it was some other shape lol
@schneiderman to us it's a ball, to the machine it's just a tracking reflective ball. It changes color so it works in different houses.
The problem I see is that most gamer's lack pink in their rooms, so hopefully the Ps3 doesn't choose that color for you.
FAIL
@Jason7731523
FAIL=epic fail
nowadays anyway

Its like they didnt even try...
@Jason7731523
I'm sure you'll look cool playing Socom sniping baddies in the head with a pink glowing ball.
If it sucks, you can always use it to amuse your cat, dog, child, neighbor.
@nullifie
Or your girlfriend..
@CHICHIgetdaYAYO
Anyone who buys this controller doesn't have a girlfriend.
... but maybe they would get one if they buy this.
Such a contradiction.
@Meekermoloko
I believe he was referencing the fact that it looks like a vibrator...
@Alexicov
Yes ... so was I.
hence my "... but maybe they would get one if they buy this." comment.
Between this design and product names like the 'ipad', consumer electronics businesses are giving us some comedy gold this year.
If it smell funny, you better not touch it.
pretty cool things they could do with the different colour LED lights in the globe
Lollipop lollipop
Oh lolli lolli lolli
Lollipop lollipop.....
of it's bundled, i wouldn't mind
so how come when its an assload of Apple news, you don't send us to TUAW?
@Chuuchdizzle
"so how come when its an assload of Apple news, you don't send us to TUAW?"
Give it a guess
@Chuuchdizzle
Seriously, that's a very good question. Any answers?
1:1 motion tracking. Lightweight. Dual tracking capabilities, or joypad. Looks comfortable to hold.
Engadet community is one of the few giving a good looking product such negative oppinions. I guess everyone is a bit overexcited about a 300ms buttonless interface.
@Colrath
I have a PS3 which I love but I agree with everyone else. This does not interest me at all; all Sony did was improve upon Nintendo's idea a little bit. At least Natal is truly new and innovative.
@Colrath WiiMotion+ is also 1:1, lightweight and can be used as a joypad. As a bonus, it doesn't have an extremely ugly light on top of it.
@Steve B
"At least Natal is truly new and innovative."
Lagtal is an Eyetoy rip-off but with 3D tracking just like Move is a Wii-mote rip-off but also with 3D tracking...
@Steve B Natal is not in any way "innovative.". It's the intigration of already proven possible technology. But I don't really find this as a viable solution to a gaming device.
Sure this has its similarities with the Wii remote, with all the perks, and then some. But who cares? It worked on the Wii, so let's see the intigration (notice the similarities) with this proven tchnology and pump out some high quality games. Somehing the Wii fell short of.
@Atkins
at 33% the cost of the Wii.... Last I checked the Wii costs the same $30 for Wii Mote, $20 for Wii Nunchuk, $20 for Wii MotionPlus
Sony is offering the full set up for for $100 but if you already have Playstation Eye, the Controller is most likely going to be about $40 dollars or $60 for a set to price it just along side Wii.
"At least Natal is truly new and innovative"
Lets not jump to the conclusion that Natal is the "be all". I'll be much more impressed once we can confirm the thing does what i've seen in commercials. The one with a girl sitting on a couch driving a car with an invisibal steering wheel leaves allot of obvious questions/doubts.
The whole interactivness of the Wii'ish type products, could actually
change the face of console gaming.
As skeptic I am about natal, I rather have natal than these things. Is this the best thing Sony could do copying from Nintendo?
Marketing it as a new console means they can push the successor to the PS3 back a little more even after slimming it down...
Does anyone else think it looks like a sex toy btw?
"Want more on the PlayStation Move?"
No, I think 4 posts covers it for me.
lol these look hilarious.... do they vibrate to act as a 'massage' wand?
What are these....Teletubbies?
That ping ping ball lookin thing looks JANKY!!! FUGLY!!!
It looks like a mixture of bleeding edge technology and a cheap carnival prize.
@zoran123:
I see the cheap carnival prize...but where's the bleeding edge technology?
I just want Wii-like 1:1 true control with incredible graphics and an option to play with a regular controller!
Is it just me...or should we be making fun of these for looking like a feminine product you can only buy in adult stores?
Are you all freaking babies? Why should you care how the controller looks like? Are you upset that the PSM will perform tasks better than your Wii, not to mention actual looking characters instead of simple looking pre-school avatars?
The Playstation move is going to just blow out of stores this winter shopping season, I am already itching for it. Except for a few nay sayers and http://sonyps4.com pointing out it will push back the next console release, I think everyone is real excited about motion control devices available for the Playstation 3
Very confusing how anyone can suggest Sony are ripping of Nintendo... are we all forgetting the Eye Toy? Interesting times for gaming at the moment, with the introduction of the PSMove and Natal, things are really advancing quite quickly. Sites such as http://www.theps4forums.com also speculate that next generation consoles are just a mere few years away from being released.
