AirStash brings the WiFi, neglects the storage, for a cent under $100
When we last saw the AirStash, it was keeping its mystique about it and refusing to disclose any salient details beyond the fact that it'll function as a wireless SD/SDHC card reader. Today, the fog of war is lifted with the news that the AirStash is now officially on sale for $99.99, and will come with a battery good for five hours of continuous data streaming. Marketed primarily at iPhone OS devices, it creates a wireless network that allows any WiFi and browser-equipped computer to access the storage cards within it. The UI is built around HTML5 and recharging is done via a USB connection, which also turns the AirStash into a simple SDHC card adapter when plugged in. Check out our hands-on with it from CES over here and look for a full review coming up shortly. We do care so very deeply our portable storage.

Name resembles a spell from a Final Fantasy game
Sorry Sister Clarice, but looks like I don't need to join the Soldiers of the One for this.
So....it's NAS that's a ripoff? With the added "functionality" of HTML5 compliance to appease Jobian worshipers? Meh. It'll prolly sell like hotcakes until Apple decides HTML5 is too intrusive for firmware 4.0.
SneakerNet + Wifi. Why do the MPAA and RIAAs of this world even bother to get out of bed?
Shite, it's huge!
@won
Lol, my first thought too. But look at the USB plug top right that you can just about make out.
It only looks big because theres no point of reference in the pic, I find this a lot on many blogs, not just engadget :/
@FORDY Clearly the frame of refrence is the grain in the wood. Any one with even basic arbor knowledge should know typical ring spacing of trees with hard enough wood for table manufactuing.
As nplima hints, I predict that this (or something better) will replace P2P in a post DMCA/Digital Economy Bill world. Taking these to the libraries/bookshops/gigs/clubs/cinemas you visit will be de rigeur!
@touchmygadget
"Make sure it does have any unnecessary slow downs"
So if it works speedily and great - they've lost a sale from you?
i totally thought this was a sweet gadget, but then i remembered back when I had a winmo phone i could totally do this on my phone. I totally forgot about all the features I dont have anymore on my iphone.
@migglet
Hey, how'd you do that? Curious minds are dying to know.
Any details on the wi-fi module?? Will be nice if we can put a version of openwrt on it :)
@ciobin
Was thinking this myself. There are all sorts of exciting things that could be done with this if it's open enough.
anyone thinking of deodorant right now?
wifi? why not bluetooth? I would think that would be more secure and applicable for more phones....
So it's... A $100 NAS?
Is it just me, or does this look like a stick of deodorant?
@Meow Mix
Maybe if a stick of deodorant had a tickle button.
So where exactly is this on sale? I can't find it anywhere.
