Moject prototype combines pico projector, smartphone and motion gaming (video)
As if Sony's PlayStation Move, Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Project Natal weren't evidence enough, we're here to inform you that motion gaming is here to stay... for awhile, anyway. One area where it hasn't quite taken over in full force is the mobile sector, but Dave & Adie are angling to change that. Their Moject (short for Motion Projection) project has led to a prototype device that straps onto an iPhone, providing a pico projector for the phone and using the handset's internal sensors to recognize movements. A demo title has also been crafted to demonstrate how it all works, and while the iPhone is obviously just the beginning of where this could go, you owe it to yourself to give the video (hosted just after the break) a look. And the jams aren't too harsh on the ears, either.

Intresting!
@Borgh
Definitely pretty cool. Especially for being brand new. I could see gaming parties going down like this. A way to link multiple projectors? Make one big gaming world?
Pretty sick. Also, I've got to Shazzam this song!
@Borgh
Hey where is Luke Skywalker?
We dont want Darth Vader to get one of these, we need to win this last battle, human race is in danger.
@Borgh Did you actually read the article or just felt like being the first commenter.
@Beatnik. Too late, I just force choked that guy in the video. His product is now mine
@MoonWalkerCTE what is it to read , the video explains everything!
I can already see the jackass in the lecture hall who projects pornography onto the wall while the professor is teaching.
We're in for some fun (and interesting) times :)
@Lord Vader
Dude you gotta stop with the force chokes.
Just bought that shirt, did he....
@everyone does
Thanks for noticing too. I was going to comment but thought maybe I was just being nitpicky
@Nzad
LOL - I was thinking the same thing, on both accounts
Cool concept! The game looks like it needs a little more work though...
maybe zod can make a wii emulator now
Neat idea! Not too practical (blank walls are sometimes hard to come by) but imagine HOW COOL Layar or Wikitude would be with something like that. *immediately goes to tape projector to phone*
The future. I'm diggin' it.
By the way, dig the dubstep music being played in the video. Future sounds.
Song details, anyone?
@SupremeBeing
Only Man (Jakwob Remix) by the Audio Bullys
(credits at the very end of the clip)
@Sheldon
Thanks. Obviously was too lazy to watch it till the end.
That video needed a bit more variation in the game play and a less repetitive song.
It's cool where mini projectors are going though. I'd like to know what is possible with intergrated motion tracking. Onboard and offboard such as natal/wi/trackIR. I really wanna see one on the top of someones head with good tracking. Especially in mobile fps such as Nova.
How if Samsung BEAM released, it has proyector onboard
Cool, pico projecting is coming to the iPhone!
There is already a pico projector app in the App Store called PicoZoo

How about adapting it for augmented reality?
Or how about two phones for a mortal combat / street fighter style game?
Those are neither my favorite gesture controlled console nor my favorite mobile phone.
I don't really get it. Any pico projector attached to the iPhone could do the exact same thing for a game. It already has an accelerometer. Actually most new smart-phones have them already.
The major flaw with any attached display/control system is player movement. The thought of attaching any sort of screen/projector to something like a Wii remote would be fairly useless considering the amount of movement/waggle certain games require.
I can see myself playing this when I'm lying down in bed when I can't go to sleep at night lol!!
Wonder how long your battery would last on this. Gotta take a lot of juice. Cool concept but not if I have to recharge every time I use it.
@marcwomack Hi, the battery lasts about 1hr+ without any official testing so far @moject
Now thats cool.
The Moject is a great thing. As I know the developer that made the demo game for it, I've had the pleasure to try it. It really gives you the filling that you're in space, especially in a dark room.
Can't wait to see some more games using this :)
BTW: The demo game is way more fun that it looks like in the video.
Why did this just burn almost 4 minutes showing the ass end of a cartoon spaceship, while showing nothing at all about their "prototype device", or any other device or connector except an iPhone?
