iMONO 13-port USB hub with independent power switches kills vampires en masse
USB hubs with independently switchable ports to disable vampire power draw are nothing new, but this unit from iMONO takes things to the next delightfully absurd level, with a full complement of 13 ports -- enough for an entire army of undead novelty flash drives. Of course, you could also just unplug your devices after you're done using them to save power, but come on -- like you're gonna say no to an array of switches and blue LEDs. Next step: combining this with the 49-port hub we saw last year.

I could charge 13 iPads at once! oh wait....
@forHim247
haha, god DAMN you! I came here to say "all we need now is a 13->1 usb converter and we can charge an iPad!"
@forHim247
Cool finding nemo usb.
@forHim247 Nice...I picked up a lot of USB powered gadgets from dealextreme.
USB cup warmer
USB cooler
USB light
USB fan
etc.
What a terrible number of ports to have. They couldn't have made it an even dozen?
@CoolJon If by even, you mean divisible by 2, some might prefer 14 to 12 in spite of the latter's claim to the moniker "dozen". Also, 13 is a baker's dozen, which is a better dozen IMHO, especially when it comes to baked goods. Lastly, 10 is more round and just as even as 12, so why not cut 3 ports while we are at it?
Also, perhaps you go by the 13 being unlucky thing, though I find all too many people who are willing to believe in superstitions and luck name 13 as a lucky number.
@CoolJon It has to do with the USB spec, it allows for a max of 7 ports on a hub chip, this hub will be using 2 chips and you need 1 port to connect to the 2nd chip, thus 13 usable ports.
@CoolJon
It is a dozen. A baker's dozen.
"Of course, you could also just unplug your devices after you're done using them to save power, but come on"
Actually, I find plugging devices in quite annoying, especially when there isn't an image or another indicator of which direction the orientation of the plug is. So, I wouldn't go so far as to the desirability of unplugging each and every device.
@juanvaldez Theres's actually a standard convention - the usb logo always goes up.
@Angelworks
and if the usb port is vertically oriented?
Good, I got tired of Cullen.
The next logical step would be a RAID5 with USB sticks. Can't take long.
@muol
only problem is that the speed restriction of your 1 USB port all this goes into would make it a bit pointless. but i'd still like to see it done.
@muol I would really like to see a SD card RAID, or any flash memory card for that manner. That'd be awesome. I could use this, I only have 2 USB ports... I need more...
I would expect any such mega-hub picture to have at least 2 humping dogs
Am I the only one to see the irony that this hub is specifically aimed at killing wasteful vampire power draw, but at the same time they are using 13 LEDs to tell you which device is drawing power?
Those LEDs use electricity to lite up after all.
(admittedly LEDs don't use a lot of electricity, but still)
So will this work with all the USB 3 devices coming down the pike?
I've got this same hub however it's branded "mbeat". Got it from catchoftheday.com.au. A little excessive but at least I'm no longer low on USB ports.
This is a cool device filled with crapgadget's best thumbdrives!
Blue LEDs ARE pretty awesome....
