iPad Supreme Edition: worth its weight in smug
It's that time again, the time when excess ruins a perfectly functional device. You can thank Stuart and Katherine Hughes for creating this 22ct "solid gold" iPad Supreme Edition slathered in 53 gems. A cookie for the first person to wear this £129,995 (about $190k) monstrosity from an iPad Chain.

I'll take 2.
@KosherTelephone
And the best part? They'll both be obsolete in half a year.
@KosherTelephone
Hmm, jewelry that you hold rather than wear? Interesting..
@Ephemeral Haha no kidding
@KosherTelephone Only 2?? You sure are cheap! :)
@Khris
Available at the Apple Store, Best Buy, and the gold-dispensing ATM nearest you.
@NHAnimator
Wow. I had not idea that an iPad could actually be made more useless.
Bravo.
@steel Same company had build a gold iPhone. I wonder what will they get for doing these? http://j.mp/iphone-in-gold-impressions
@KosherTelephone
They're gonna take more than your pinky finger for this one.
....and it STILL has wifi issues....
@bbtkd
...maybe even worce, as the antenna is covered up...
@bbtkd
...maybe even worse, as the antenna is covered up...
@num0 I don't know about that. the iPhone 4's antenna is about as bare as can be, and you saw what happened.
that's a pocket change for me.

FLAVOR FLAAAAVVV!
@Waltah
hahan nah its "C3P0 meets recycling"
@Waltah
Just run a full screen analog clock app!
The gold in the apple logo will block the Wifi signal rendering the device to be more useless.
@Ahmed Alzayani
"more useless" = WIN +1
who said it was functional?
Has to haves one me did new bling bling
wow... now instead of looking like a giant douche with an ipad.... your going to look like.... a giant douche!
Waiting for Darth Vader's comment on this.
@Saad
LOL true
Meaningless.... Useless
who are you kidding saying its a perfectly functional device...
Gold gems encrusted on your iPad = $90,000
22ct solid gold backing = $100,000
The look on your face when you start having Wi-Fi issues = Priceless
@XciteMe this is one of those things your money can't buy. for everything else, there's mastercard.
@XciteMe Some apps get in, but for everything else there's Cydia
It's just a material humans have arbitrarily assigned value to...sigh.
@wemustcontrolpeople It's not arbitrary, it's due to supply and demand. But yeah, gold only costs a lot because it's in high demand (supply isn't an issue, there's a lot more gold than other rare metals like platinum and iridium).
@r3loaded Why is it in high demand? because humans arbitrarily assign value to it. It does have some functional value but this isn't the reason it's desired, mostly it's cosmetic (and hence some people would call it arbitrary).
@tad604 it had value, it was soft and shiny, you could do jewelry with it. Now it is mostly used by Monster Cables to BS people with "better conductivity with gold"[1]
[1] Gold conducts electricity quite well but it does not serve much purpose (or, as much as Monster Cables claims) with your HiFi cables.
I would like to know how much the gold actually cost on the device.
iWaste
@Stevenk So true...
I assume that this is supposed to stay inside of a glass case.
It will start getting a herringbone look after all the nicks and scratches plague that soft gold backing.
It would be funny if the only one we find out is buying these monstrosities is Steve-o himself.
@BMills
He won't get one because the diamonds weren't bought from iStones.
Besides, he doesn't like anything flashy.......
Make it two cookies and you have yourself a deal.
Imagine sending that in for a battery replacement and getting a normal one back...
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
@ChazClout
later you see a refurbished ipad supreme on their site for just $1000
Eh I guess trading this is how Oprah got her Evo early, +1 for Oprah!
I'm holding out for the Coby netbook, layered in tin foil.
I could do without the bejewelled logo, but the gold coating is actually rather natty.
gaudy... and trash... this oughta make Jonny Ives hurl
I wonder if anyone actually buys that stuff? I have a feeling it's nothing but CGI vaporware.
iStupidWastePro
I think the best part is that no one will actually think it's real, because no one would think to spend 200k on an iPad....so it'll look like you're walking around with a ghetto painted iPad.
Even if you pay "about $190k" for iDevice you won't get Flash support...
"It's that time again, the time when excess ruins a perfectly functional device." And in other news: iPad painted gold.
