PosiMotion Helix iPhone / iPod touch gaming grip now available at Best Buy
PosiMotion certainly announced this one well enough in advance (all the way back in December), but it looks like its Helix gaming grip for the iPhone and iPod touch is now finally available, and at Best Buy no less. In case your memory needs to be jogged a bit, this $20 contraption promises to be ideal for "virtually any game," and let you use your iPhone or iPod touch in either portrait or landscape mode -- it'll also keep your headphones from getting tangled up for good measure. Still not convinced? Then perhaps the video after the break will change your mind -- chains not included.

Buy a PSP or a DS
@drlisbon
PSP and DS don't have the appstore. Don't dictate what people should buy, they're entitled to choose as they please.
@drlisbon
No.
@Almo
the PSP has an appstore, how do you think the PSP GO gets it's games?
@Kev007
It's not so much how the GO gets it's games but rather how nobody is buying the GO
@Kev007
Has *an* appstore, not *the* appstore. ;)
@drlisbon
I Agree.
........and OMG that commercial sucked.
@drlisbon
Throw some buttons on that thing and maybe we've got something here. Finally...
Gaming on the iPhone for anything that requires a "joystick" is annoying at best. This could be what Apple needs to put it's gaming goals up another notch. For 20$ with buttons I'd consider it.
@drlisbon I've got a game gripper for my Droid, so I'm all set. I just wish it was compatible with games like Assassin's Creed Altaïr's Chronicles and Gang$tar WCH. I hope Gameloft provides an update so I can play with my keyboard/GameGripper.
Scary part is people will buy this
@Jean Marc
Well you know how it is. There is a sucker born every minute!
I dont know what i'd think if I saw someone in public using this.
@impulse462 If i saw it in public, I'd say "Where are the deucing buttons?"
If this had a battery pack inside it it might be worth something, but just as an extra lump of plastic? what a waste of time.
@safe travels Waste of space and money. It helps waste time though.
@pintozoz
it's a waste of the 'developers' time. if you can call them that. also a waste of the best buy sales people's time.
.... seriously?
... I mean... really?
This thing doesn't even look like it'll be fun to hold
@bnutzinger
Thats what she said.
@SolidSnake *lol* i should have seen that one coming ;)
Batman can use it as a batarang!
@a piece of cheeze +1 lol
I love he youtube video. Especially the FPS part.
Guy is touching the screen like crazy trying to shoot, but the device doesn't detect it. LOL. Such a gaming device! Go crazy tapping and don't get any feedback! yipee!
@pintozoz
iPhone has the most responsive touch screen available on a phone. It definitely works better than shown here.
@grahamj That video would like to have a talk with you..
@grahamj
fanboy alert......... and by the way, I think most of us can agree that the screen for the iPhone is a bit outdated. Getting back on topic, I think this could be uncomfortable for different hand sizes, unless you could manually change it.
@deliteguy the guy is correct. The iPhone has, far and away, the best touch screen on any phone or any consumer device available. It's not up for debate, it's been proven in several studies. It's touch screen capacity isn't dated in the slightest.
I mainly play my games on the go. When I'm at home or even at work, I have my computer or consoles to play. So this thing really wouldn't appeal to me since it's not something I could see myself easily carrying around when I want 5 mins of a game here and there...
@Stewie Vader
Same here, usually I just game on my phone while i'm waiting for line for something or in a similar situation. Doubt I'd whip one of these out for
@impulse462
..5 minutes. Not sure how that got cut off
@impulse462 for?!?!
The suspense is killing me.
@Stewie Vader
For the type of games I'd use this for I'll now just use my iPad instead.
That really is laughable. I guess that's what happens when you can only prod a screen or shake a device, you have to have some plastic scaffolding called a "controller", ha.
@hated one oh u
So does it come with finger extenders so you can get at the screen or are you expected to just evolve
@Cy Starkman
No silly, the finglonger costs extra.
WTF happened to the iconttolpad? Been soo looking forward to that for like 2 years.
@hated one
Try speaking english?
I can't imagine walking around with one of these things on your device --- i'd say it's the equivilant to wearing a bike helmet to school and keeping it on all day long, along with a cape...
@DoctarPeppar
LOL @ the cape comment. win.
Pointless contraption that looks like it came out of a garbage bin.
@prodigypv
And that's where it will return...
From ashes to ashes.
And here I thought the Wii would be the only system where some company could sell an inert piece of plastic for $20.
I just made one with an empty plastic bottle.
Funny...when I was waiting in line for the iPad at Best Buy, the guy that developed this thing was one of the 7 people standing in line. Pretty cool guy. He broke it out to demonstrate it. Good quality I suppose.
Considering that a lot of kids use the iPod Touch as a gaming device this may do better than anticipated. I saw one on the shelf at Best Buy the other day while I was browsing for a new iPhone case. At $20 its reasonably priced considering its more substantial than the cases which sell for up to $30. Obviously its not going to appeal to everyone and its not going to turn your iPod Touch or iPhone into a psp or ds killer, but for someone who plays games on a regular basis it could have some value. Agreed, it's probably not the kind of thing I would bust out while waiting in line at the store. I happen to think people look ridiculous when playing games on their phones/devices in public to begin with.
Damn. I saw this and thought - wow! Finally a decent iPhone enclosure with buttons and possibly more! Then I looked at the article. Sad.
@hated one You realize that there's the Game Gripper for the DROID, right? And the fact that Engadget even did a review of it. And finally Android is catching up and with Apps2SD on Froyo meaning Devastating won't have to worry about space restrictions. Besides Android has plenty of great 3D games...
All 10 of the 3D Gameloft games
Raging Thunder 2
Backbreaker Football
Homerun Battle 3D
Winds Of Steel
ExZeus
Hockey Nations 2010
Speed Forge 3D
And other great titles. Not to mention Need 4 Speed coming in June
HeavyGunner 3D
Seriously that is a crappy peripheral. Completely useless. I do not think that holding and gripping the devie is even remotely on the list of problems for gaming on touch devices. It's the lack of hard controls.
If they just add a clipon that has buttons and a Dpad, it's something worthwhile. Otherwise, that's just a big bit of bulky plastic that does absolutely nothing.
@hated one Damn Auto correct!!!
GARAGEBAND!!!
@hated one
If I were you, I would not want this "game-grip" to be associated with anything I own. It's that shitty.
I don't know how anyone can be proud of this thing. I don't care what device you own, this game-grip thing is a turd.
