Could you guys upload the extra part at the end too?
@SolidSnake
Hey SolidSnake.. Are you by any chance playing in the 'Battle of Both Worlds' tonight..?
@BenHemesath
I was wondering the same thing. Seeing awesome TF2 players is going to be.....er.....awesome!
Hahaha. If you guys have steam accounts, add me: aromgbod
"...ya know, People say they love retina display..."
Another Applecast from Engadget! 75% of it today!
Still, good work nonetheless! Listening on my Dell Streak :)
@maty yes these applecasts are pretty entertaining. Especially the part were they claim not to be apple biased.
@Edobe
It's funny when you claim that they are apple biased.
@E30 Kid when did I say that XD
Apple: Hold Different.
RSS?
@good grief Oh, you poor, ignorant fool. They NEVER update their RSS!
@good grief Still not there. The mobile podcast last week took forever to get on the feed as well.
@good grief
Seriously, I can't listen to the podcast on Android without the RSS
Btw Engadget, mention Google Listen for podcasts on Android when someone asks
Josh raises a good point regarding the lack of games on the Anrdoid smartphone. I think it's worth noting that the upcoming Unity 3D 3.0, a development platform behind a LOT of iPhone/iPad games, is being released for Android soon, which will allow developers to port their games and develop new games across both platforms simultaneously.
@MagnetMan
Sorry, it's not being 'released' for android, but will be supporting android. Anyway, here's a link to the official press release:
http://unity3d.com/company/news/unity-unveils-3rd-generation-platform-press.html
@MagnetMan I sure hope android gets some better games soon. It's got all this good hardware and nothing to use it for.
@gschier
Trust me, it's guaranteed. Unity 3D is the most licensed game creation engine for the iPhone and the engine behind many PC, Wii, XBox games as well. This is a big deal for the state of android gaming.
Though not really related to what I said above, watch this fun demo reel:

It's interesting that whenever someone criticizes Engadget for sugar-coating the bad news about Apple, they get labeled as a crazy conspiracist.
I wonder how many of the main editors are strictly OSX users - further, I wonder whether being a strictly OSX user would result in an inherent bias towards Apple products. Just because you don't realize that you have a bias doesn't mean that you don't have one.
@The Advanced Kind
The writers of Engadget have opinions. No different than any other human being. Get over it.
@The Advanced Kind agreed..... I thought it was kinda funny how josh went on a rant against the guy for the apple coverage when all he needs to do is look at the history and the number of apple posts compared to anything else. I don't have the numbers but subjectively I would bet apple has atleast 2x the number of postings compared to anything else (wp7 included which josh says they "blew out").
The bias is there (even if you don't mean for it to be there).
@The Advanced Kind Also just look at the show notes for this podcast.... 15 posts on the iphone and 4 droid X posts (one post comparing them both) and 2 froyo posts.
You really want to claim one of those devices is being covered more than the other? And if you go back further almost every other podcast is like this.
Now I'm not saying its a bad thing to like the iproducts but don't say these products are getting equal coverage and rant against those that point this out.
I disagree regarding the premise that apple chose the resolution 960x640 to leapfrog the competition.
It's more likely a decision to avoid fragmenting the market, as it's easier to pixel double to keep the UI and apps consistent.
Also, the gyroscope is not an apple innovation (though it wasn't stated as such), and a feature coming inevitable to the latest smartphones. Kudos to apple for getting it first and implementing APIs to take advantage of it.
Err. So is the iPhone 4's screen a warmer color or a colder color? Im confused lol
To speak to the point in the podcast regarding android OS releases:
Google has already committed to yearly releases, and many of the OS features can be swapped out and replaced independently of the core OS. In this way, the browser, keyboard, APIs, etc, can be updated independently, which is a strategy that has worked well with PCs for quite some time.
The idea of a solitary OS running on many different system has been shown to work quite effectively with the desktop computer, and Android seems to be like this for the handset.
Android having to run on different hardware and specs, is a challenge that Apple does not have with a tightly controlled platform. However, the android engineering decisions seem to have surmounted many of the challenges with this scenario, and development can continue without worry of obsolescence.
I think the problem with an iPad sized 'retina' display, is moving such a significant number of pixels with a mobile processor. In fact this is likely true with the pixel density of any modern phone (eg. Nexus One/MotoDroid).
At the iPhone4's 326ppi for a 9.7" screen is, the resolution would be 2529x1897 . Even at the Droids 265ppi, the resolution would be 2056x1542 .
Most desktop GPUs can't run resolutions like that at interactive rates.
A 30 dollar piece of rubber that does nothing for your iPhone is acceptable but a 50 dollar HDMI cable that allows HD viewing on any HDMI input device is insane?
REALLY!?!
@seesaw12
when did they say it was acceptable? get a grip.
Just btw: This reception problem is a big deal. The problem I have with this is that Engadget is mitigating this problem! Ya sure all phones have sensitive spots, but they are not located on the spot you are inevitably going to hold and they are not going to completely kill the reception just with your hand!
Apple is usually pretty good with quality, they f* up this time and, as always, they are not taking responsibility. Stop making this into a non-issue....
Please update your damn RSS, how hard can that be for a tech blog?
+1
Come one!!, learn to update the rss link when you add a new episode.
You can download it to your phone by clicking the link provided. You don't need rss for Android.
@franchise This is true. However, if you use google listen to queue up all your podcasts, the rss is needed.
I use Listen too, but I'm not so lazy that opening another app to listen to a podcast is a problem for me. Much better to complain about it instead I'm sure! :P
@franchise I'm not too lazy either. But when it's every week I have to do it, it's kind of an issue.
Best intro ever!
Why does it take so long for the podcast to appear on iTunes, the latest episode still isn't on there :(
@qwerty2k yea, I'm sorry I can't just be sitting in front of my computer when you Ustream the show, but I prefer getting a podcast the same week its taped.
I'm also waiting for the iTunes upload. Is it always delayed this long?
Great podcast. I want the engadget app to have multitasking support for ios4 though. That would be awesome.
Man, this was probably the funniest podcasts I've heard in a while. The whole Steve Jobs imitation near the end was hilarious. Keep up the good work guys.
We did with the iPhone 4, and now you can watch HD porn on the iPod Touch with this magical screen
