Motorola Droid X gets cinematic 'See You Tomorrow' trailer (video)
Yeah, we said trailer. The Droid family has seen its fair share of atypical ads, and while this one won't tug on your heartstrings, it'll definitely captivate. Unless you're already three sheets to the wind and well on your way into an early weekend. Either way, you should really have a look after the break.

@MicrosoftOwns I'm not a fanboy and I also think it looks at least as good as the iPhone.
@RoyFokker I will never be a V customer again ( prices too high and data network is shitty and they charge u to breath) but I'm so "J" of how good they arenat hyping up a phone. Nobody can deny that!!!!!!!!

@RoyFokker Hear hear.
Finally, someone can compete with the iPhone. Maybe now there will be some competition, mmm?
@SamTheGeek The Incredible "competes" with with iPhone... this and the Evo blow it out of the water.
This competes with nothing at it has a frozen ROM.
Not bad. still think iPhone 4's was better... cause the iPhone 4 IS better.
@intrepid hawk
And today you get downranked (not by me though)
@intrepid hawk
i'm sure when droid x loses antenna bars with just a fingure you'll develop more respect for the droid x.
@intrepid hawk The rest of us actually use phones to make calls, that pretty much rules out iPhone 4
@intrepid hawk
This ads not attacking your beloved "ican'tmakeanycall" phone. So ..yeahh .. hawk is goin down the drain (sound of toilet flushed"
@intrepid hawk
Depending on what you're looking for, the iPhone might not fit your needs at all. I don't see how it's much better than the Droid X unless you prefer things like iTunes and Apple's business model.
@RhymeMaster
he does get downranked by me though
@intrepid hawk Please stop feeding the troll.
I don't think anything will beat the first Droid commercial (the iDon't ad)
This one is okay.
@sweet greggo part deux Oh man, that video was crazy. People wanted the Droid without ever seeing it, it did such a good job at "waking up the market" like they intended.
The ad that started it all...
I'm a little nervous Verizon is going to weaken the Droid brand. It seems every month now they're releasing a new Droid with a campaign about how it's the coolest thing ever. After a while, the message gets old and it's clear that Droids are very common and not as awesome as Verizon claims if there needs to be a new one every couple of months.
Calm down, Verizon. I love what you've done for Android, but you need to calm down. Not just for envious Androiders, but for the brand you've built.
@JONNNathannn ... it worked the first time around, and its working with this one as well, CLEARLY lol, your post didnt justify anything
@mcdubn The point being, will this work for Droid number 11, coming December at this rate?
Probably not.
It's called diluting your brand.
Learn something.
@mcdubn, JONNNathannn wasn't trying to "justify" anything, so I fail to see the point of your post.
@JONNNathannn But EVERY Droid (sans the Eris for some people) enticed the consumers in one way or another. AMOLED, bigger screens, Sense, Stock, and Ninjablur. Slide-out keyboards or 4.3 inch screens. There's only been 4 phones (released as of tomorrow). I think it's a tad exaggerating to say that the brand will become old. The line-up is iterative of the two companies every 4-6 months at least.
Right now we have the Droid X. Coming soon will be the original's successor. Then I believe Verizon will be riding pretty high from then on; and if HTC wants to jump in with another by years end, then so be it. I wouldn't say the brand might become diluted. There's still a bunch of excitement and rarity in this campaign left.
@N900
i agree four fones in what in a year. 2 per year. not diluting at all. If they did 2 every 2 years you would be complaining. better to have a coupl options when they release them. completely disagree. Their marketing strategy is CLEARLY working.
@JONNNathannn I thinks this is only the third droid fone to hit the market. theres the Droid, Droid Incredible, and Droid X. All three fullfill a smartphone category. You got the slider, the normal touch screen, and now the behemoth power house. I wouldnt consider it diluting but rather covering all preferences.
@N900 What about the Devour?
@ohnoitsaspider the devour lacks the "Droid" name, seriously, it does, look at the box... although you mentioned the Hero.... erm, "Droid Eris".
@jmhalder That's one thing I don't understand. How do they determine what gets branded as a Droid phone and what does not? The Devour and the Ally(which you forgot) do not have the Droid branding but the Eris(Hero) did. I wonder if Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy S will get Droid branding. What makes it even more confusing is when people refer to any of them(usually the original Motorola Droid) as "the Droid phone." There's no question that the marketing is working but those little details annoy me.
@sweet greggo part deux
This one will beat the original when the DROID X drops signed bootloaders and becomes a phone that DOES.
@CapnShiner the Term Droid is licensed under Lucasfilm, so anything that has the moniker "Droid" has to be licensed through Lucasfilm.
Motorola and HTC seem to be the only companies that can legally call their products "Droids" because of that licensing agreement.
overall options are great. having a few different phones out allows people to choose what is best for them, the incredible can be your gf phone and you can get the X or if she has man hands she can get the x and you can get the incredible, or if you are loyal to the original droid, get the doird 2. options are fantastic! but having too many of the same kind of phones out can water it down but as of now i think its great.
this is coming from an iPhone 4 user. (i hate my Hero, i want an Evo as well!!!!)
@N900 Don't forget about the Samsung Fascinate!
@dorothymantooth
And today, you get upranked.
Well now I can say I have a comprehensive understanding of the droid x and its features!
@Subprime Yes. Because commercials where they read directly from the users manual or misrepresent capabilities are always the best ads!
@Subprime
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nyYloJyq9M
First iPhone ad didn't talk about features or capabilities at all. Apple's iconic "Hello" advertisement was created to set the mood for the release of the device. While Apple's ad portrayed that they were reinventing our ways of communicating, Moto is trying to say that their device is futuristic. I don't agree, but that's the image that they're working to create. Laying this portrayal is the first step to creating a successful product.
@Subprime Its just to give hype, there are other commercials that scripts were leaked for that will most likely start playing by the end of the week, which will show it more for its features and such.
@dorothymantooth
That is probably one of my favorite commercials from Apple.
I dunno why, but it just feels...nice watching it.
@Phoenix
And if anyone says it's because it's "magic" I will punch them in the balls.
@Subprime
I thought it was a halo reach commercial!
Am I the only person who thinks Subprime was being sarcastic? I think he was using sarcasm to point out that the teaser ad mentioned absolutely nothing about the phone itself, save the name. I understand that's the idea of a teaser trailer, but at least I didn't miss the point of the comment like the rest of you(assuming he was being sarcastic).
@dorothymantooth I don't get 'futuristic,' I get complicated and dangerous. I don't like Apple, but they're a heck of a lot smarter than this kind of meaningless sf takeoff piece.
@huh Yeah, same here. Add this to the CREEPY eye video and I just don't understand how this is a winning strategy. "Buy this phone and it will, uh, turn into skynet? assimilate you? Release a deadly virus?"
As a launch-day EVO owner, I'd think I'm their target audience, but I just don't get how this phone is anything but exactly what you said: "complicated and dangerous."
@Phoenix are you sure? It looks "magical and revolutionary" to me.
:D
Well that was er different.
Badass video! Verizon does markrting.
@Drizzle Droid does apps!
I do downrank!
@Drizzle I loved the ad too. Very cool.
@Nintendoftl so much for this swift keyboard is can't even spell marketing... grr. Droid does! Want to trade in my Incredible now. Sigh... damnit.
@Drizzle Personally, it gave me shivers for some reason. If engadget didn't spoil the trailer, I would I thought it was a movie.
Is anyone else having a ton of trouble with Youtube today? I can't watch the video, and last night I couldn't even access the site at all.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget I actually had trouble accessing youtube as well! I thought it was my computer at first, but then a message popped up from Google saying there was a server error.
@dorothymantooth Yeah, it's a shame this phone isn't shipping with the latest version of Android that Google just finished and released for the Nexus One a few days ago like all those other Android phones that are already shipping with Froyo...
@JONNNathannn It does suck, but cut them some slack. The phone was finalized before Froyo was released, so they didn't really have time to get Froyo on it by the launch date. They said they will get an update for it soon, so they are trying. Hopefully, the Droid 2 will have Froyo at launch and shortly thereafter the Froyo updates will be released for the Droid and then Droid X.
