Google halting Nexus One sales through official store after current inventory depleted
We knew this was eventually coming, and here it is: Google is giving everyone the heads-up that it just got a fresh batch of Nexus Ones in stock, and once they've been sold through, they'll no longer be offered directly through the company's online store. For what it's worth, the customer service lines will stay open even after that happens -- and you'll still be able to buy a phone through KT in South Korea, Vodafone in Europe, and "possibly other [retailers] based on local market conditions" -- but by and large, your average American is going to have a hard time getting one pretty shortly. If you're a registered Android developer, though, Google's looking at continuing to offer the device through some sort of sales partner -- a wise move considering it'll be just about the only thing you can buy unlocked running a clean-slate latest build.

@Revolutionary
By the way, we don't lie about statistics and we admit our mistakes. - Google.
@Revolutionary
YAY!! +10000
@Revolutionary
Wait what....this isn't an apple blog site? They post news other than Apple?
Could've fooled me
@the real deal Again, the first person to bring up Apple, is an Android. LOL.
@Revolutionary Poor thing. It some had good days.
@fragmit
Capitalism > Communism
Freedom > Controlled
Free Speech > Censored
Google > Apple
its a grey brick with a trackball, and it runs android, the ugliest OS on the planet. why would i buy this pos?
@MicrosoftOwns
Grey? You must be colorblind.
Android? Pretty much the best mobile operating system in the planet.
Why would you buy this? It can make calls.
@Revolutionary Freedom? So you don't have to root the devices anymore to run unauthorized apps? News to me, that's cool. Good thing they are not putting eFuses in these things to stop people from running unauthorized roms. Oh, they are? My bad.
@Revolutionary
But Google's got no problem allowing carriers to lie about sales of Android devices, oh and then there's the whole stealing personal information thing.
Nobody's perfect, and how do you know anyone else is lying?
@Revolutionary
Nexus Two ???
@Revolutionary
actually communism is a utopia
there is no government that is actually communist as Karl Marx defined it. besides every capitalist country caused the recession
@Revolutionary
my buddy got this phone. what i like about it is that Google was sneaky about the hardware..meaning that its made to last you awhile and take the updates like 2.2 and soon 3.0. I give them props for that. they went all out. Wish they had it on Sprint or made it there.
I was playing with his phone and I was like wow..i have an EVO.
@MicrosoftOwns lol yeah man because WP7 that is like 4 years too late is the BOMB! Not to mention Microsoft had over ten years to dominate this market and chose not too. If Microsoft had half a brain and kept up with their OS they could have easily been the market leader in this arena. At least Apple and Google had the balls to push the envelope. You should actually be thanking the two of them seeing that Microsoft would have sat on their ass if it weren't for Apple and Google. When was the last time Microsoft lead in innovation?
@fragmit
Do you even know what root is on Android? You are using the definition of jail braking the iphone for rooting. 2 words
DAMN SON!!
@Revolutionary
Thanks Google (and HTC) for this incredible phone!!!
Despite the depletion of production, all the support we are getting (Froyo, Flash., etc) and the upcoming Gingerbread,, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a Nexus two just yet. This phone will probably last me longer than any other phone I had.
True story
@jellotime91 How do you figure they let carriers lie? Google doesn't know, nor control how these carriers and manufactures handle things and have nothing to do with what they say. They supply the OS and the rest is up to whoever.
@fragmit
all android phones can run non market apps except att ones
ALL android phone can run custom roms expect some Moto ones
You are a idiot
@Seven2k Well, if we are going to compare "freedom" in phone operating systems, my Jailbroken ios4 is about as free as your rooted android, so piss off with your claims of freedom.
@Revolutionary like when they stole everyones wifi data?
@Revolutionary Yep, Google always admits its mistakes : "I’ve seen some recent speculation on this thread about an OTA to improve 3G connectivity and I want to give you an update on the situation. While we are continuing to monitor user feedback regarding the 3G performance on the Nexus One, we are no longer investigating further engineering improvements at this time. If you are still experiencing 3G issues, we recommend that you try changing your location or even the orientation of your phone, as this may help in areas with weaker coverage." http://www.phonenews.com/google-no-longer-planning-updates-for-nexus-one-reception-issues-11002/
@DefPoet So all android phones can run all apps, except half of them, got it.
All android phones can run any roms, except a lot of them (Motorola), got it.
And "you are a idiot", if you are going to call me an idiot, do it right. "You are an idiot.".
@fragmit but what if we ARE NOT talking about jailbroken/rooted..
@fragmit
your full of shit and are a idot
you know nothing about what you are saying
@Revolutionary
Glad I just got my N1 on Tuesday. Loving it with a side of Froyo
@fragmit
Android phones area already "free." You on the other hand have to jailbreak your iPhone to get the same freedom that Android phones already possess. Root != jailbreak.
@fragmit I measure freedom by the boundaries and limitations i have....compare to yours..yes i have more freedom.
@fragmit
hello muttonhead ATT android phones make up very little marketshare
the best selling android phone the droid( made by moto) runs roms just fine
@Revolutionary You can keep your religion. I'm just gonna buy the phone I like the most.
Crazy, I know.
@xSFx
applology
googlism
micrognist
these are the only true religions on the internet!
@Revolutionary Ironically, it's through capitalism that apple has become the great beast that it is. It would be a socialist policy if the government instituted net neutrality, and also if they disallowed apple and at&t to sign an exclusivity agreement, or restrict what people can do with their devices.
just saying. :-D
@Ovy
see what you are saying you want to win the fight fairly not by a law or rule. Got to remember that the consumers also need someone to keep an eye out for them. Right now where money is not being made that much people need value.
@fragmit
Only att blocks 3rd part apps
The efuse is not what you think, which you should do more of (think).
@MicrosoftOwns Oooooohhh. How dare you could've said anything against The Almighty Google; god of Engadget readers? How dare you?
@MicrosoftOwns
"its a grey brick with a trackball, and it runs android, the ugliest OS on the planet. why would i buy this pos?"
Because you're jealous bitch!!
@fragmit Dont you know?? It's not Engadget, it's Androiadget.
@Revolutionary Yup because we all know that you have access to the real data and would know more about the calls and complaints a company gets than the company itself. If you don't mind, please share the data you're speaking of and what your sources are...
@Revolutionary
I'm seeing grey and silver too >.>
I think you're the colourblind one.
@maattp in real life, its actually kind of grey-brownish, and it certainly doesn't look like a brick
@Seven2k
If this was on Sprint I think I would have got it over the evo. I just like the Google support. the first device with 2.2 and its going to be the same for 3.0. I like that!
But I also here they have the front camera working in 2.2 for the evo. one more camera and I am in!
@Meekermoloko Shhhhh (T-mobile project Emerald)
@Revolutionary
They are losing money on this Android initiative. There's nothing for Apple to apologize about. You can return the phone for a full refund. No questions asked!
That's how it works for all products. People are well aware of this issue and detractors are upset that people are buying this even after having this antenna issue jammed down their throats.
Tomorrow when consumer reports recommends the iPhone as their best phone what will you say? Screw consumer reports?
@commenter7 Yep I love my Nexus One and to be honest I have still yet to see a phone that has really been a big enough upgrade to drop this bad boy.
@angermeans
Couldn't agree more, love my Nexus One. The Samsung Captivate is the only phone so far to make me go, "hummmmmm, interesting". Still hang on to my N1 though to see what comes out by HTC or Samsung next year.
@angermeans
I agree. The Vibrant kind of has me interested with its larger Super AMOLED screen and faster CPU..
But I just don't think it's enough of a bump over the N1 to justify wasting my upgrade on it (thankfully I still have an upgrade due to the fact that I bought my N1 barely used for $300)..
I'm holding out to see what Emerald is later this year.. But I think i'd be perfectly happy with the N1 until the end of next year truthfully..
@Revolutionary
If it's so great, why don't they keep making it and sell it in stores where people can actually buy the thing? Also, Leo Laporte reported a couple weeks ago that there would be NO nexus 2.
@MicrosoftOwns
Boy am I tired of hearing you rant about how bad android is.. get over it..
i wish somebody would give this douche the ban hammer already.
@Revolutionary I wish they'd release skinless Nexus phones annually that upped the specs and let people test the newest Android builds.
Nexus 2, 3, and 4.
Oh what could've been...
@Revolutionary
Android isn't the best. It's the clunkiest.
1. Most unstable
2. Worst media player
3. Worst gaming platform
4. Worst corporate email Interface
5. Worst app store quality
6. Ugliest designs
I guess the only saving grace is....large screens with poor readability and high mega pixel cameras with poor quality pictures.
Android is what people but when the iPhone isn't available on their network.
