Apple Store goes down, get your credit cards ready
It's looking very much like yesterday's hypotheticals about Apple refreshing its hardware are about to bear fruit. The online store has been put on temporary hiatus -- presumably to get all those delicious new specs and pictures in -- and we can probably expect it to churn back into action around the company's typical 8.30AM timeslot.

Wooooohooooo!
New iMacs and MP's PLEASE!
@akbc And the magic trackpad ! My HTPC dreams come true.
@akbc Awesome. Can't wait ti see what's new. I hope there are not too much changes in iMac since my wife just bought one iMac 27" a month ago with 8GB RAM and Quad Core i7 processor. It has more RAM then my Mac Pro.
@akbc updated Mac Pros FTFW
@akbc Hopefully we'll get usb3
@SarnGate AND USB 3… hopefully
@akbc
Mac Pros really need an update...
Minor speedbump for the iMac will be enough, though.
And the magic trackpad sounds so freakin' awesome! I love my MBP's trackpad!
@QUiTOS
USB 3.0 would be nice and all, but seriously, what would you use it for right now? For HDD's we have eSata and FireWire, and for anything else, USB2.0 is plenty fast. There's not really any USB3.0 hardware out there anyway.
@Raytem I want a lot of changes. USB 3.0, FW 3200, i5 and i7, 1GB video cards (Open GL 4.1) etc.
@drange If everyone had that mentality 3 would never get successfully adopted as it should.
@akbc wooooooooooot! and new cheap ram! faulk! wrong store
@briguy266
True. And what's wrong with wanting USB3? It's going to be futureproof!
I'd love to see major companies like Apple, Dell and HP to push USB3.0 adoption as fast as they can.
@drange -- "USB 3.0 would be nice and all, but seriously, what would you use it for right now? For HDD's we have eSata and FireWire..."
It's gotta start somewhere. Plus, the likelihood of USB 3.0 devices gaining acceptance is much higher considering that 95% of the computers in the world will never use Firewire... and eSATA is not really an ideal solution for Flash drives. (no power, some hot-swap issues)
In other words... USB 3.0 will be the successor to the wildly popular USB 2.0. It's coming...
@drange Apple could make their portable devices USB-3 compatible, syncing could always be faster. So they could take a lead on that, but yeah, until say, external hard drives with the port get cheaper it's probably not worth the faster backup.
@Michael Scrip
It'll be dead in under 3 years when Light Peak launches at the end of this year.
@drange If they come out with a product that had USB 3 that means that the mb and the mb pro will end up getting it sometime next year. That's the reason I'm hopping for it.
@akbc
*hides credit card from himself...
@akbc its probably for the upcoming 17 countries iPhone 4 launch this Friday.
Why do they have to take down the whole store to add a few items in the database?
@Raytem
when i applied for a job at apple, they sed that if u just recently brought an apple product which then gets updated u can trade it in for the new one. which i thought was really good!! lol
@gargle get everyone crazy excited. and its working!!! [:D]-)-
@Raytem Trust me apple will return if u bought it a month ago they will help you out just tell them the u work very hard to save for ur computer and apple come out with a new one a month later trust me
Oh boy, I can't wait to 0 out my bank account! *sarcasm, yet slightly true*
@akbc if u use the apple store app, you will see that the imac isnt showing up, but everything else pretty much is.
@Raytem you can always return it for the new one
@akbc Wooooohooooo!
New iMacs and MP's PLEASE!
Woooooohoooooo! "Bumpers" .........................................
@SarnGate fucking 70 dollars - they made billions with this new iPhone 4, why cant they charge 50, or 40, or have two sizes, damnit.
I'm not buying anything until i know more about the foxconn india shutdown
News just in: News - coming soon!
@Barguast
...maybe!
@Barguast The fact that Apple have to take down their store to sell new products is insanely amusing - imagine Amazon doing something similar! That said, it's now turned into part of the marketing machine with blogs like Engadget posting articles about it :-/
@Barguast Sigh... I'm just tired of this ridiculous ceremony.
- "Could Apple be releasing new stuff tomorrow?! That's what rumors say!" (Well MAYBE it's a controlled leak considering HALF THE TECH BLOGS IN MY RSS READER REPOSTED IT)
- "Another source claims (insert minor feature update) is coming!" (reality: some important-sounding person posted a short and cryptic message on his Twitter account which could be interpreted as "New iPhone 5 tommorow!" if you cover one eye and squint)
- "The Apple store is down! Oh my GOD! Look at that gorgeous post-it note!"
- New MacBook Pro 13" with 2.6Ghz C2D introduced! That's 2 MILLION HERTZ!
@RincewindWiz
if Amazon did it every time they add/updated a product than the website would be down 24/7 7/356 356/4ever
@Pickaxe 2 hundred even.
@Barguast
I hate you. I was brushing my teeth and I ended up snorting toothbrush and spitting it all over my MacBook Pro keyboard and screen.
@Pickaxe If you don't like Apple, don't read about it. The fact that you read the story is another "hit", And that's what web sites want, more hits, you just added fuel to the fire. I'm reading it BC I like some of Apples products, So I'm gonna keep "hitting" these stories.
@Mikeserena
What story? I see no story.
@Barguast Exactly. All they said was that the store was down. I like all types Id products in including Apples laptops. That doesn't mean I need a story everytime the store is down. I'm wondering if Lenovo or Sony take their sites down to refresh.
@Barguast
Can we get a counter on the home page dedicated to the number articles about Apple each day? We should have a betting pool. I am guessing 8 articles today around the refreshes and initial thoughts.
@RincewindWiz its not amusing its stupid publicity stunt bullshit they should be smacked in the face with 19 quadrillion newtons of force.
@DefPoet do you not know how many days there are?
Here we go again...
Engadget's picture= win
i wonder how much are they gonna charge for the 27" LED Cinema Display...
@andyusa well.. the 24" is priced 300 under the 22" iMac (21.6") model.. so i guess the 27" will be 300 dollars under the 27" iMac.. something that ridiculous I'm afraid..
@andyusa
I'vr never been to a cinema with a 27" screen. Surely it needs to be 27' before you can call it cinema
@andyusa
I hope it's affordable!!! Oh who am I kidding!
@andyusa Surely it will follow the normal "How much are the competition charging... ok, lets double it!" ethos that Apple's pricing model normally follows!
@pizzle
If that's the case, forget about it! I wonder why they charge so much on their Cinema Displays. You can buy 2-3 of the same size monitors depending on the brand. I'm actually in the market looking for a 27 incher to replace my stone age 19" TFT LCD. Maybe I should wait for Samsung if I want a 27" LED Display...
@andyusa It has mostly to do with the use of a higher quality (hence more expensive) panel like an IPS panel and not some shoddy TFT or other inferior panel.
