OnLive to test WiFi support, extends free year offer and sale on all games

We've had a good time with OnLive's "instant-play" game streaming service so far, but if there's one thing we'd change, it would be the fact that it only supports wired internet connections. Thankfully, there are enough similarly minded folks out there, prompting the service to single out WiFi support as a "top development priority" to be introduced in beta form before October.

OnLive also announced today that it is extending its Founding Members program yet again (it was due to end this coming weekend), offering a free year of service and a guaranteed $4.95 monthly fee thereafter to anyone who signs up before January 1, 2011.

For those who are already members, Labor Day weekend (that's September 4–6 -- only two days away!) will bring with it a sale on all titles in OnLive's catalog, to the tune of 50 percent off each and every one. A full list of games available can be found here. If you're keen to try out the service (or get a preview of its WiFi support) the company will be exhibiting at PAX Prime this weekend, September 3–5.

OnLive Announces Wi-Fi Beta and Major Labor Day Promotions on Its Game Service

Featuring Discounts of 50% Off All Games; AT&T Founding Members Program Extended through End of 2010; Wi-Fi Beta Available in September

Palo Alto, Calif., September 2, 2010 – OnLive, Inc., the pioneer of on-demand, instant-play video games, today announced a host of major Labor Day updates to its Game Service that include a video game sale and the introduction of significant new features, including a service-wide Wi-Fi Beta rollout, along with an extension of the AT&T Founding Members Program through the remainder of the year.

Over Labor Day weekend, OnLive is offering a discount of 50% on all video games available on its cloud gaming service. In addition, OnLive is extending its Founding Members Program, presented by AT&T. This limited-time and limited availability program for qualified users includes a free 1-year membership to the OnLive Game Service, with an optional second year at $4.95/mo. The Founding Members Program presented by AT&T will be accepting signups through December 31, 2010. In September, OnLive will also begin rolling out important enhancements to its Game Service, the most significant of which is support for Wi-Fi. OnLive members will soon have immediate access to premium video game content on a PC or Mac® via a Wi-Fi or wired broadband connection, making the service increasingly convenient and accessible. The initial rollout of the Wi-Fi feature will
be a Beta program.

"Wi-Fi support has been the most requested feature among OnLive members, so we made it a top development priority and were able to roll out a Beta version ahead of schedule," said Mike McGarvey, OnLive's COO. "We're continuing to add new features and enhance the service, as well as expand the list of top new release games. We're also pleased to provide outstanding promotions, such as the 50% off game sale and the AT&T Founding Members Program, as the OnLive community continues to grow. Stay tuned for more offerings, new features and great titles."
