X-Men Arcade mutates into iPhone game
X-Men Arcade is available now on iOS devices for $2.99. The 1992 beat-em-up classic supports drop-in multiplayer for up to four players, along with Openfeint (Leaderboard and Achievements), Game Center and Facebook Connect for publishing scores. The game appears to be the full experience, including the full campaign and all six playable X-Men (Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler or Dazzler).
A word of warning: the game is designed for the 3rd generation iPod touch, the iPads, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Although the requirement is mentioned in the press release, the App Store doesn't appear to note it. Reviews of the game in the store complain about it not working on the iPhone 3G or any 2nd generation devices.

KONAMI and Marvel Team up Again to Bring Mutants to Mobile Platforms
El Segundo, CA - June 2, 2011 Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., and Marvel Entertainment announced today that X-Men Arcade will be available on the Apple® App Store for gamers everywhere. This is the first ever mobile version of the popular 1992 cabinet arcade classic for both popular mobile platforms. The game will allow players to join their favorite X-Men characters in what is widely considered their first great video game appearance.
X-Men Arcade brings the excitement of the Marvel universe and the smash-hit arcade game to iOS powered devices. The game supports drop-in multiplayer which will allow anyone with a local Wi-Fi connection to join the battle with up to four players. Special attention was given to the enhancing of Touch-based controls and the offering of total button placement freedom.
The action continues with the integration of social features like Open Feint (Leaderboard and Achievements), Facebook Connect (Publish Scores) and Game Center (Leaderboard and Achievements). Other features include single-sign-on for ease of connectivity with social features and the rumored inclusion of the famed Konami code.
Great care was taken in staying close to what the classic game play offered and the game aims not to disappoint. X-Men Arcade for mobile still allows players to choose one of six X-Men: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler or Dazzler to do battle against super villain Magneto, his army of Sentinels and other evil mutants in the full campaign all the way to Asteroid M!
