Soulcalibur 5 getting costumes from Bayonetta designer

Furry.

Soulcalibur isn't exactly known for down-to-earth costumes, and now 1UP reports that Soulcalibur 5's wardrobe is about to get just a touch stranger. Namco has announced that Mari Shimazaki, character designer for Bayonetta, has designed three costumes for Soulcalibur 5. Specifically, Shimazaki has clothed Ivy, Tira and the series' newest sword dancer, Leixia.

As one might expect, the costumes are flamboyant to say the least. Check out some images and design sketches in the gallery below.

NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today released new SOULCALIBUR® V assets for download. The new screen shots and art highlight a trio of costume designs that have been produced by Mari Shimazaki, who previously worked on character design for Platinum Games' Bayonetta. The three designs are alternate costumes for Ivy and Tira, and the official design for Leixia. SOULCALIBUR V will be available in North America for both Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system on January 31, 2012.

Developed by the legendary Project Soul™ team, SOULCALIBUR V picks up 17 years after the events of SOULCALIBUR®IV with new heroes and returning warriors, including guest character Ezio Auditore from Ubisoft Entertainment's Assassin's Creed series, clashing in an epic showdown between good and evil. The tale of Patroklos, son of Sophitia Alexandra, unfolds as his family's destiny intertwines with the Soul swords. With the series' revolutionary 8-way run, allowing for true 3D movement during matches, refined battle systems, and stunning graphics, SOULCALIBUR V will be the top game of 2012 for anyone looking for a knock-down, drag-out fight.
