Wonder Twin Powers, Activate! More superhero transmogrification

There is plenty of WoW machinima out there, and there's plenty on my favorites list. Up there on the list is Aquaman's Lament, put together by Spiff and based on a song by Mark Aaron James. It wasn't just the catchy song that caught my eye; it was the WoW twist on several different superheroes. This was, of course, before the days of transmogrification, and several of the sets shown used mismatched armor types for a surprisingly effective look.

Now that we've got transmogrification, we can take these looks and use them for our own, with a few tweaks here and there to make sure each set fits under one armor type. I love comics, I love superheroes, and I love World of Warcraft, so Aquaman's Lament hit a home run for me. And figuring out how to make the sets featured actually work with transmogrification is about as much fun as wearing the sets themselves!

Wonder Twins

I know what you're going to say: The Wonder Twins are super lame as far as superheroes go. But I want you to take a moment here and think about this. You're a lone adventurer out in the middle of nowhere, happily working on PvP objectives, possibly humming to yourself. It is a happy song. Suddenly out of nowhere, two stealthed rogues pop up, and in two seconds flat, you're eating dust before you have time to react. The rogues exchange high fives, and just before they vanish, you realize with a sinking sensation of humiliation that you've just been ganked by the Wonder Twins.

  • Head No helm needed for the Wonder Twins! Turn that helm graphic off.

  • Shoulders We're going to go with some understated purple shoulders here. Have a leatherworker whip up a pair of Dark Leather Shoulders for you.

  • Back No cape needed, either -- turn that graphic off as well.

  • Chest You can find the Songbird Blouse by heading to Stratholme and gleefully murdering Hearthsinger Forresten. If you're really lucky, you may find a Piccolo, too!

  • Wrists Bracers are going to be covered by your gloves, so you don't really need to worry about transmogrifying them.

  • Hands Keep an eye out on the Auction House for the ever-stylish Bandit Gloves.

  • Waist The striking gold buckle on the Cabalist Belt works wonderfully with this set.

  • Legs You can find the Leggings of the Fang in Wailing Caverns. They drop from Lord Cobrahn.

  • Feet These basic black boots are the Shadowstep Striders, found on Harbringer Skyriss in The Arcatraz on heroic mode.

  • Weapon The Wonder Twins don't really carry weapons of any kind, so it doesn't really matter what weapon you use here. However, working within the color set of the outfit is advised, so any purple, black or gold weapons will work quite nicely.

  • Monkey Look, if you're going to play Wonder Twins, you need a Gleek. Pick up a Darkmoon Monkey at the Darkmoon Faire. He's close enough, and as an added bonus, he's wearing a fez. And fezzes are cool.

Aquaman

The titular character of Aquaman's Lament is surprisingly easy to put together. This is a mail set, so it's suitable for hunters -- which also makes weapon choice that much easier to deal with. As an added bonus, tame a crab for that nice, aquatic touch.

  • Head No helm needed here; you can turn that helm graphic off.

  • Shoulders Keep your eyes peeled for Captain's Shoulderguards, available on mobs levels 41 to 49 or at your local Auction House.

  • Back No cape needed, either.

  • Chest This unique and perfectly colored chestpiece is the Captain's Breastplate, available on mobs in the 40-to-48 level range or on the Auction House.

  • Wrists Once again, you don't really have to worry about transmogrifying your bracers at all, here.

  • Hands For suitable green gloves, have a blacksmith whip you up a pair of Green Iron Gauntlets.

  • Waist The Sparkleshell Belt is the perfect vibrant color for Aquaman's set.

  • Legs The legs for this outfit are Green Iron Leggings, which can also be crafted by your local blacksmith.

  • Feet These green boots are the Brackwater Boots -- they're an incredibly low-level item found on mobs in the 11-to-18 level range.

  • Weapon If you're a hunter, you've likely got a polearm equipped, which means there are a few different options for you here. Aquaman looks great holding a trident, and there are a few different trident polearms in game. For a green and gold option, find yourself a Reclaimed Shadowstrike on Onyxia in 10-man difficulty. Or if you'd prefer a black and green version, you can pick up the original Shadowstrike from Sulfuron Harbinger in Molten Core.

Green Lantern

Perhaps the hardest of today's three looks to put together is Green Lantern. It's not the outfit itself that is difficult, since the pieces all belong to one coherent set. No, this time it's the helm that's the issue.

Green Lantern wears a black mask, and there aren't any black masks in game -- the closest is the leather blindfold you can get from Illidan in Black Temple. But since this is a plate set, we need a plate helm. Because of this, I've gone with a set of engineering goggles for the helm for this set, which require engineering to create and use. If your plate wearer isn't an engineer, you may have to settle for turning the helm off altogether -- which is an unsatisfactory result, but it still works to a degree.

  • Head Pictured here are the Tankatronic Goggles, which go pretty well with the green of the set. As a darker alternate in black and blue, you can also create a pair of Mayhem Projection Goggles.

  • Back No cape needed here.

  • Shoulders/Chest/Hands/Waist/Legs/Feet All of the pieces for Green Lantern come from the Emerald Plate set. This set can be farmed anywhere in the 41-to-60 level range, but it's far easier to simply keep your eye on the Auction House and grab pieces as they're available. While this set is nowhere near an exact match to Green Lantern's appearance in comics, it's close enough that people should get what you're going for.

  • Shirt Throw on a Stylish Black Shirt under this outfit to cover any gaps in the breastplate and create a seamless look. The Stylish Black Shirt is only sold in Stormwind; Horde players will have to transfer the shirt to Horde side via the neutral Auction House.

  • Weapon Green Lantern doesn't really have a weapon at all. Instead, he crafts his weapons with his ring, and they've all got the same green glow. To achieve this look in-game, simply look for green weapons of whatever weapon type you happen to be carting around. This includes shields for tanks as well as one-handed and two-handed weapons.

Superhero outfits are one of my favorite things to put together with transmogrification. This is partially because it's just a fun challenge to try and get the right look using the gear that's available in game, but mostly because you just don't really expect to see a superhero running around in World of Warcraft.
