WoW Insider's Guide to the Anglers

Guide to the Anglers

The entire continent of Pandaria seems to ravaged by war, doubt, and uncertainty, but you wouldn't know it by visiting the Angler's Wharf. There you'll find a crew of light-hearted folks that are too busy sitting on a dock by Krasarang Bay with a fishing line tied to their toe. The humble fishers there have a variety of dailies and rewards that make it a breeze to level fishing -- and worthwhile to boot. If you're like me and actually enjoy the quiet solitude of casting a line in some far-off corner of WoW then this faction is just icing on the cake.

A soggy introduction

Before you hit level 90 and begin the interminable grind that is the Pandaria daily shuffle, your first introduction to the Anglers will be in Soggy's Gamble, in the southeastern corner of the Dread Wastes. All of the quests in that hub reward reputation with the Anglers, and in total should be enough to put you in striking distance of Friendly before you ever do a single daily. Make sure you complete these for an early boost to the rep.

Now, let's dig into what the Anglers have to offer, exactly.

Over at the wharf

Once you're at the level cap, you can head over to the Angler's Wharf to officially begin working on their reputation. There are a multitude of quests that you can you get, though only three are available at a time. Each of these quests is worth 500 reputation with the Anglers, as well as the standard 5 valor points and single Lesser Charm of Good Fortune.

  • Armored Carp: The quest is to use the given spear to kill five carp, but really you can just AoE a school of them. They're all very low level and will die instantly. Using the spear takes longer.

  • Bright Bait: Fly around the lower Wilds and pick up seven Suncrawlers.

  • Huff & Puff: Again, the given quest item doesn't have to be used, just use normal attacks.

  • Fishing for a Bruising: Kill eight of the Raiders attacking that village. You can finish off the ones the pandaren NPCs are attacking and get credit for them.

  • Jagged Abalone: Dodge shark aggro while looting the giant clams in the trench.

  • Jumping the Shark: A vehicle quest, just spam 1, hit 2 when it's off cooldown, and hit 3 if your grip is getting too low.

  • Like Bombing Fish in a Barrel: Unlike the other "kill x with y" quests, the stingrays are level 90, so it's faster to use the bombs -- if your aim is good. It takes some practice!

  • Piranha!: Fairly straightforward, just fish up five of those fish. Might take a while for people with lower fishing skill.

  • Scavenger Hunt: Each pool of shipwreck detritus will give 3-5 of the quest items. Quest goes quickly.

  • Shocking!: Like the Pirahna! quest, fish up seven eels in the Dojani River. Even at max fishing skill and with buffs, this will take a few minutes.

  • Snapclaw: Very quick quest -- just swim down to the cave in the trench and kill Snapclaw. He is an elite mob, though, so be prepared.

  • Viseclaw Soup: In addition to the Viseclaw Fishers the quest recommends, you can also kill the Viseclaw Fry (very low level, and multiple appear in a pack) for a really quick way to accumulate eyes.

  • What Lurks Below: Fish from the whirlpool to summon the beast. Be careful when Narjon channels Water Stream, as that will do a ton of damage. Step to the side when it's cast, Narjon will not change direction to hit you.

  • Who Knew Fish Liked Eggs: Steal an egg from the cranes and use it while in the water to make a pool. Fish from the pool and snag the quest item.

Buttering up Nat Pagle

In addition to the set three dailies, you can turn in one of three special quest-giving fish to Nat Pagle. It is possible to fish up multiples of these, but you may only turn in one per day. Doing so will give you 350 rep with the Anglers and 500 rep with Nat Pagle, personally (as well as valor points and Lesser Charms). These rare fish are important because you need to be best friends with Nat to unlock the ability to purchase certain items. Each of the following fish can be caught from any open water or pool in Pandaria:

Quartermaster rewards

The Anglers have some pretty awesome rewards, especially for fishing enthusiasts looking to make their pastime a little easier!

Friendly

Honored

Revered

Exalted

As for Nat's rep, when you are revered with him, you can buy Nat's Fishing Journal (a BoA item that can gift fishing skill to an alt) for 1,000 gold and Nat's Hat for 250 gold.
