Animal Crossing: New Leaf sells 600K at retail, 200K digitally

Animal Crossing New Leaf sells 600K retail, 200K digital in first week in Japan
Nintendo has shipped approximately 600,000 copies of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in Japan, president Satoru Iwata revealed on the Animal Crossing Twitter account today. The game was released in Japan on November 8. Nintendo will ship an additional 200,000 to meet demand later this week.

A surprising number of consumers have almost realized that they don't need to wait for Nintendo to ship additional copies. Iwata also tweeted that 200,000 copies have been sold digitally through the 3DS eShop since launch. However, enough of those were from cards sold at retailers that those cards have also run out of stock.
