The Queue: Kitty!

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

When yesterday's edition of The Queue was written, the Cinder Kitten pet was not yer for sale on the Blizzard store. At some point between then and the post actually going live, the Cinder Kitten became available for purchase, leading to a fairly confusing answer to one one of the questions! If you didn't see our correction on the matter yesterday, you can go buy a kitty, now.

JamesF asked:

Are there any forms of narcotics in WoW? I know there is tobacco, as the Dwarves are fond pipe smokers. Apart from that, are there forms of accelerants or deppresants? One could assume that Alchemists and "Herb"-alists (heheh) have experimented with various chemical combinations that lower or raise inhibitions to, for instance, dull pain or give you a quick boost of speed, no pun intended. I always liked to consider Health Potions as a form of morphine that also mends wounds, possibly numbing pain as it repairs tissue damage; while Mana potions are like energy drinks or some form of drinkable cocaine that raises raises the drinker's concentration and focus. What do you think?

There have been a bunch of narcotics in quests throughout World of Warcraft's history. Back in the day, one of the single most obnoxious quests in Stranglethorn Vale required you to take a trip up to the Swamp of Sorrows and collect dream dust, which the goblin snorts upon receiving the goods. Bloodthistle is an herb found only in the blood elf starter zones, and consuming it gives you a buff to your spell power. When the buff expires, you're struck with a withdrawal debuff. There have been no narcotics used as integral plot points in WoW's story, but they're there in basic quests.

OnyxElders5124 asked:

I'm looking to re roll on a new sever for PVE purposes. Anyone have any recommendations for an active (preferably friendly) PVE server, as in it's a heavy focus on PVE activities, not necessarily the sever type. Horde or Alliance, I'll be a panda either way!

I don't have an answer for you, I just thought I'd draw attention to your question so people can make their suggestions.

Travis asked:

is there an addon or any way to see the actual time before a auction is ending, specifically in the BMAH, I was waiting for a auction to end last night in the BMAH, it was at short time said that it was ending in less than 30 minutes but it sure seemed like it lasted longer than that.

I don't believe there are any addons like that, but I could be wrong -- I don't look at gold-making addons very much. Players not knowing the exact duration on auctions is intended, though, so I imagine Blizzard wouldn't be very happy if such addons did exist. The time remaning on an auction is intentionally obfuscated to make it difficult for players to snipe auctions just before they end. Encouraging sniping discourages bidding at any other time.

paul asked:

Do the new Grand Commendations that boost faction rep work for normal questing? For example, I'm exalted with the Klaxxi on my main, but I remember I went from neutral with them to half way through honored just questing through Dread Wastes. If I have the Grand Commendation of the Klaxxi unlocked, could I complete the Dread Wastes quests and end up at most of the way through revered before I even started the dailies?

Yes! That's exactly how the Grand Commendations work. You can do that to your heart's content.
