The Queue: When will patch 5.2 launch?

The Queue When will patch 52 launch

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

It's a good question.

Broleap asked:

I know it just showed up on the PTR, but do we have an educated guess when 5.2 will drop? My sub expires the 21st and I just cancelled the renew. Not that I don't love the game, but I just started seeing someone and find myself spending time/talking with her more than playing so I can't justify the expense right now. However, when 5.2 drops, it's game time. I need me a Dino mount.

I would guess we aren't going to see it on live realms until at least March. Test realm periods usually last awhile, and this PTR cycle launched particularly broken -- you couldn't really test anything, because interacting with objects didn't work. That meant you couldn't click mailboxes, portals, you couldn't loot items, and so forth. It's hard to test a new zone when you can't interact with the portal that takes you there.

It's going to be awhile.

JeffLaBowski asked:

Why don't people take the portal back to the cannon at the Darkmoon Faire? Is it a principle thing? The 30silver too much? Do they think it's actually faster to mount up and ride back? Are they being anti-lazy? I need to know!

Here's how the cannon runs go for me: I shoot, I miss, I start running back to the cannon. Halfway there, I remember the portal, so I run back to that NPC. In that time, I could've made it back to the cannon on foot. I click on the NPC, remember he wants to charge me, then I go back to the cannon on foot anyway, doubling my travel time.

It's pretty great.

Nocjin asked:

Froakie, Chespin or Fennekin? I'm leaning towards Froakie but you never know which will turn out OP.

Do you even need to ask? Fennekin. Dude(ette?) is adorable.

JustinOlomon asked:

About the next Warchief, wouldn't he (or possibly she) have to be an Orc? If not, who would be the Orc Faction Leader?

If the orcs were running solo, it would need to be an orc. But if the Horde expects to be a unified faction, they need to allow for the possibility of a non-orcish leader, especially considering the malcontent that Garrosh is breeding throughout the Horde. The trolls, tauren, and so forth may not be super eager to let another orc rise to power right away.

Vol'jin, backed by Baine Bloodhoof, seems to be positioning himself for power -- or at least more power than Garrosh currently allows them. Maybe the warchief position will be phased out (even if temporarily) for a war council. Vol'jin, Baine, Lor'themar, and Sylvanas can be at each other's throats for awhile.

@BigLosXXXL asked:

Where do baby Pandas come from?

When a papa pandaren and a mama pandaren who love each other drink a little too much ale... a baby pandaren sprouts from the hops overdose.

@decompiler asked:

11 DKs on 1 realm = $250. 11 of ANY OTHER CLASS = free. why is this outdated restriction still in place?

Because death knights come with the perk of starting higher than level 1. If you want a legion of high level alts (for crafting, for example) you should put the work in as intended, rather than use a mass of death knights as shortcut. Even monks start at level 1.

That's the justification, but personally, I'm not sure I agree with it. A quick level 55 doesn't seem like such a big deal to me when the level cap is 90.

@TobyWC asked:

If Bolvar is a 'noble soul' and is now the Lich King, why can't he just wipe out the scourge with his will?

We are, but it's a slow process. If you quest through the updated versions of the Plaguelands, the Scourge presence is significantly diminished, to the point that some of the land is suitable for farming and resettling again. The Alliance and the Horde haven't exactly been able to focus entirely on that effort, though -- there's the whole business with Deathwing that came up, and now the full-scale war that's going down between the factions. That doesn't leave many opportunities to work our way through the hundreds of thousands of walking corpses contained in Northrend.

Also, remember that the Lich King is an entity unto itself. We killed Arthas, not the Lich King. Bolvar is a noble soul locked in mental combat with another entity that wants to exert control over him. He can hold the Scourge back to an extent, but rendering them uselessly passive is probably not within his means.

Double also, because the developers probably want to reuse the Scourge one day and don't want to lock themselves out of tackling a followup to that story.
